I never get tired of guys catching big pike. I fish Lake Oahe. They keep theeatening to get the new world record out of it but it keeps on not happening. We catch a lot of dandies out of there though. I never get tired of fishing for them either!
We brought a hand scale and had a little competition. 10lbs was in the lead for awhile. Then 13, the a pile of 14-15. Then I thought I had it sealed up with a 16 only for my buddy to land a 23 just a few minutes later.
It was great having a scale, much like bears, people seem to over estimate weight on a fish.
Out of the over 200 we caught this past weekend, I kept 4 in the 10lb range, my other buddy kept 8 and another kept 10. There are over 30,000 pike over 20" wintering in the river we were on and F&G has a quota they'd like to reach, though they never have. It's a subsistence fishery and you can only keep 10 per household per day, which many people were in fact doing. We let all the big fish go.
