That was a day that most likely will never be duplicated. 18 to 21 pounds only problem with spearing you can’t release them.

Went to Ontario few years ago. Had tremendous fishing. In three days I caught 20 plus pike over 35”, biggest was 44”. This was in late May, so ice out.

Myself and two buddies caught 160 today here in Alaska. The silliest thing I’ve ever seen as far as fishing. Incredible day!

Nice pike Nick, what were you guys using? 160 fish, that's unheard of, amazing day, but silly is a good way to describe that too!

We went through around 15lbs of herring. Just used a chunk of it on a single hook spoon. When we ran out of herring we used pike liver from the ones we filleted.

We brought a hand scale and had a little competition. 10lbs was in the lead for awhile. Then 13, the a pile of 14-15. Then I thought I had it sealed up with a 16 only for my buddy to land a 23 just a few minutes later.
It was great having a scale, much like bears, people seem to over estimate weight on a fish.
This one was 44” and 23.5lbs.

Out of the over 200 we caught this past weekend, I kept 4 in the 10lb range, my other buddy kept 8 and another kept 10. There are over 30,000 pike over 20" wintering in the river we were on and F&G has a quota they'd like to reach, though they never have. It's a subsistence fishery and you can only keep 10 per household per day, which many people were in fact doing. We let all the big fish go.

Nice! We had a very slow spring. I would have loved a couple more weeks to fish and the ice conditions would definitely bear it.
