The country I'm in is not exactly prime javelina habitat but my cousin who will be joining me tomorrow gets one here just about every year. Will need a lot of patience and a bit of luck. Pretty quiet out here but there is not much wind and it's cool enough to keep them on the hill for a while.

All the dang rocks and barrel cactus out here are driving me crazy! No piggies yet. Only some week old sign at best. Feed is everywhere this winter. Lots of moisture in AZ this fall and winter so far. That tends to make them not move as much.

Not only did you find some pottery, you laid it on Bigfoot’s foot print!!!!
Quit looking or Javi’s and find that Sasquatch!

Back at it. We're hunting unit 42. Somewhat brushy but pretty open. Breezy with cloud cover this AM. They're here here somewhere.

Finding them is always the hard part of hunting javelina, but in good country like that you know they are there somewhere. It's just a matter of finding them.

Nice photo White Falcon. I looks like that one was in a scuffle at some point and got his nose re-arranged.
Good luck, Nick. I know they've been your nemesis for quite a few years now! In my experience, once I finally take a species that has seemingly had my name, I've taken several of them in the next year or two after.

That's a wrap for today. We glassed our eyeballs out today and just couldn't pick anything up. There's scattered sign throughout the area, just haven't found the hot spot, yet. More tomorrow. Forecast for rain overnight and early in the morning. Could be good right after.

Wind is the one thing they will not tolerate. Wind will put them in the bottom of washes damn near impossible to glass. Be up on a ridge right after the rain breaks. Send some photos of the country you are hunting and maybe I can point out some likely holes. PM if you want it to be more on the DL.

Glassing conditions are miserable today. Low clouds hanging around obscuring our view but it's getting better. We walked a pretty good wash for a ways this morning and have not cut any fresh sign to speak of yet. Fat lady is tuning up.

We did not see any deer either. I really need to seriously consider hunting somewhere else next time. My cousin has done well there because it's almost in his back yard and he puts in the time. There is a lot of other activity like riding motorcycles and firing guns right there since it's the outskirts of a major metro area. Not ideal for sure. Plus the javelina have only been there for 20 years or so max, unlike the areas around Tucson for example that have had pigs forever. It's just so convenient. I think I need to go back farther south in the state where I have had more success finding them and getting shots. My title of Arizona's Undisputed Worst Archery Javelina Hunter remains intact! LOL!

Well, that sucks! Sorry you didn't have a better hunt! That's hunting....nothing ventured, nothing gained.
