Started a free range Audads hunt yesterday. Was very windy. I saw about 30 and figured out really quick it's going to be tuff to get close. It's very cold this morning. Nothing moving yet.
I feel like they knew when I got out of bed this morning.... They are hanging out on this small Rocky hills. From the top the can see 360 for ever.
Cool! Where are you hunting? Aoudad can be tough to get close to! Good luck!
Their vision is second to none.
Make it look easy Forest! Audad is the one exotic on my list. Such a unique looking animal, lots of horn and a great hide. Good luck!
Good luck! Where are you hunting?
Good luck Forest! These are on my short list to hunt soon!
Good luck Forest! X2 Ambush, not much interest in exotics but free range audad has intrigued me for sure
Oklahoma has free range Aoudads? Hmm, never knew.
Got pics of these guys near my friends property in Texas
Tuff day. Found a big group an hour before dark and couldn't get on them. Try again tomorrow
Whew! This rounded rocks look like Holey HELL to move around in! Ankle twisters and leg breakers!
Be careful up there man.
Cool country.
Look for a saddle or cut somewhere that you can set up for a shot as they travel through. Maybe set up on one side of the hill and see if your guide/helper can give them a bump to come your way.
Good luck! Hope ya get a big ram!
I’d be happy to hunt just about ANYTHING so long as it’s free-ranging, legal and either tasty or useful.
Can’t think of anything I’d say no to, actually, other than tame livestock or an endangered species.
Hope this one becomes a bunch of great memories for you....
Ambush?? I like Treeline’s thinking.
That looks like the land around Ft. Sill. or Altus area. Good luck.
Down by Lugart, Mangum, Granite area possibly?
I saw a big ram running down an oil lease road when I was checking wells north of Clinton, Oklahoma back in the late 80s. Don’t know if he was an escapee or just lost. Very cool looking animals for sure.
Agree with others above. They are one exotic that is on my short list, along with an ibex in NM. Good luck Forest!
Good luck Forest. Thanks for posting your hunt, look forward to the next update.
Thanks for keeping us in the Loop Fb.
Good luck, Robb
Hopefully today is the day!
Arrow in Audad! Looked good will update when I can. God is good!
Awesome! Sticking by for the follow up!
Man, I can see a Bowsite Audad hunting in the future. Good luck Forest. Paul
That was fast! Can't wait to hear the rest of the story!
Hope this one turns out better than the moose. Good luck
Awesome! Way to go Forest! Now my watch begins......
Wow! Awesome Forest. Can't wait for pics!
Awesome! How did it happen?
Can't wait to see pics and read the story!
Good luck on the retrieval!!!
Awesome!!! Cant wait to hear. Those critters are tough to get close to!
Jeopardy theme playing...Good luck and can't wait to see the pics.
Any guesses on size....... God is good!
I’d guess...plenty big enough. Congrats, Forest!
Very nice Forest! A free range Aoudad with a bow is quite the accomplishment. Was it spot and stalk?
I have no experience estimating Aoudad but would guess 27"?
Excellent and great shot! Congrats!
The pack out won't be near as grueling as the mountain goat last fall! Congrats Forest
Cool looking animals. Congrats! Is this on the No Mercy properties?
Congrats . Good shooting!
Congratulations... very cool.
God is good indeed!
Is that a ewe or a ram? If ram my guess is 21-22". Any free range Aoudad/Barbary sheep with a bow is a well-earned trophy! Congrats!
Aoudad/Barbary sheep are good table fare but meat is tough as a board. I grind everything including backstraps and tenderloin. As burger they are delicious.
Nice, congrats. I have only eaten it once. Was the meat in a spaghetti sauce , tasted great .
Congratulations! Awesome job man! A spot and stalk free range Aoudad/Barbary Sheep is a tough one with a bow for sure!
Smarba has it pretty close but I’m gonna go with 22-24”. X 2 on table fare. Very mild but very chewy if not ground up.
Awesome!!! Congrats!
DonV and I are headed to NM in Feb to hunt barbarys
Awesome Aoudad! Congrats Forest!
Congrats!!! What an amazing looking animal, and awesome to get it done with the bow!!!
Awesome!!! Good job and congratulations!!! Free range archery Aoudad’s are no joke!!
So you did make it look easy, thanks!! That may be the encouragement I need.
Congrats on a fun hunt and a beautiful trophy! The only problem with audad is that almost demand, at the minimum, a half body mount. Suggest gorgeous hides!
Congrats! Fine accomplishment for sure. C
Congrats, nicely done!!. Thats an awesome hunt and great country, I cant wait to get back out there.
Wow, bucked the odds for sure on this one. Cant wait to hear more details. congrats!
not many people do that!!! great job
Congrats! Thats awesome! Heck, I didn't even know they had Aoudad in Oklahoma, was just there on a duck hunting trip over the holidays.
Found the group Yesterday. Set up this morning under a saddle and they feed to us. 6 in the group I shot the biggest one at 30-35 yards. Shot was a little back ( they are more like African animals) but went less than a hundred yards. Pass through with a Vortex 2". She is a ewe just shy of 24" I'm in South West Oklahoma. I'm hunting this evening and trying to shot a real big ram we have been seeing. Pm me questions if you would like.
24" is HUGE for a ewe. Ewes rarely get over 20". Great trophy, congrats, now go get the big ram you're after!
Congrats Forest...That's awesome...
That is a Booner ewe! Looks like you got set up in a great ambush location! Hope you whack that ram!!!
I "like" it. Nice going. my best , Paul
Hell of a challenge with a bow!!
Congrats Fb
Good luck, Robb
Congratulations! Great accomplishment!
I see what you did there Paul :) congrats Forest, way kool! Looks like you’re making the most of your “sheep shape”!
Awesome! That is an accomplishment for sure! Beautiful animal. How much longer you got to hunt?
