As a teenager growing up in NJ, I spent the first dozen years of my deer hunting career or so driving deer in the Pine Barrens of Southern NJ during gun season. Between 30 or so guys we would kill 6-12 deer a year. Half of those were spikes and the rest were the most sad looking bucks you could imagine. But hey, I was deer hunting and loved it. I remember 1 deer my Dad shot that was a perfect 6 point but it was probably 7" main beams, 1" brow and G-1, 4-5" spread, pencil thin, you get the point. So it got me to thinking. I killed the smallest rack buck, this year, that I think I have ever killed in my life. He is a tiny little 8 pt that scores 68" +/-. So guys lets see em. I think for scoring purposes we will need to leave out spikes and 4 points. So lets see your smallest rack buck and score if you want to. Yes, the season is over. I am not interested in anyone's comments regarding what I choose to shoot. I am, and always will be, a deer hunter not a trophy hunter.

Wow, I lost track of the spikes and 1.5 year old bucks I killed growing up. I killed a few that had pencil thin 3" spikes that were just legal. Shawn

Wish I had a pic of mine! He was a 1x3 and had a bad limp. First archery kill. I had does under me but wanted to kill a buck really bad:) That dude limped out with 15 mins of daylight left on the last day of the season and almost wrecked me. Never forget that shot. Super sharp wac em, little high but both lungs and he died in site. Had my best friend with me ranging for me and telling me to hold out for a buck and not shoot one of the does. That was a fun night. Damn, wish I had that pic.

I LOVE this thread......what a refreshing change from the "horn porn" that has invaded our beloved sport of bowhunting. All the QDMA guys are going to have fits with these photos, but I'm enjoying it greatly because it shows guys who went to hunt DEER.....not grow big antlers and try to get a Youtube channel or sponsorship. None of these were high fence or guided hunts that cost the hunter a bunch of money. Thanks for the memories and honesty, gents!

Well, he said no buttons, forks, or spikes. I think this is mine. First of 4 deer in 6 days in NE. It was a freezer filling fling-fest.

My first archery kill. With my brother and two cousins. I was hooked after this for life. Was a 8 handicap golfer and gave that up for bowhunting!

Well, here's my smallest that wasn't a spike or forky. An interesting little 1X4 taken in 2016 with a 4 yard throw. I hope the weapon of choice isn't a problem, it was an archery tag. Never even thought to measure the rack but sure was good eating! Dave

What is the difference between that and a spear? What kind of penetration do you get?

I killed a heavy bodied 2.5 year old "perfect" (well proportioned) 8 point in 1999 who had 7" main beams, 2" G2s and a 8" inside spread. I'll see if I can dig out a photo.

I swore off killing yearling bucks and haven't killed one since 2007.......until I went venison-less in 2017. Didn't like that very much. So late season in 2018 I told myself I would shoot the next deer that came by. Unfortunately, he was a buck, and my smallest ever. And he is delicious! I haven't been that happy shooting a dink in a long time. Then a week later I shot a giant doe.

We don't have buck or doe tags here, they are called "Antlered" and "Antlerless", and any buck with antlers shorter than 3" can be tagged as anterless... Also, the DOW only allows one only antlered permit per year reguardless of method of kill...

I didnt take pictures of it, but I shot a button buck in December that weighed 32 pounds with the hide off and guts out.
I'm not necessarily proud, but you asked. A friend was implying I was a poor marksman and couldnt hit it.
I didnt think I could either, if I'm being honest, but lo and behold, it fell down.
I will never hear the end of it at deer camp.

Had a friend who shot a really small spike like these last couple. His son was around 5 years old at the time. His comment was, "that's kinda like a buck dad!" LOL.
