So sorry to learn of this setback. I met Dwight and Larry Jones at the Michigan Bowhunters Rendezvous back in the 1990's. As others noted, he was gracious and genuine where others ran on ego. Prayers from west Michigan for a great bowhunting ambassador.

Our thoughts and prayers for a great ambassador of bowhunting
Thoughts and prayers from ND Dwight. You are a great ambassador for the bowhunting. Keep up the good fight!
One of the truly good guys. Sad to hear. He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
I met him at the Edmonton, Alberta P&Y convention in 1997 and took the opportunity to tell him how much I enjoyed his writing - I'm glad I did.
I caught a glimpse of him at the 2017 convention in St. Louis and was planning to talk to him when the opportunity seemed right, but I didn't run into him again. He looked very thin and I suspected something was wrong.
Very sad to hear indeed! Thanks!
ElkNut/Paul

Prayers to Dwight, and his Family during this difficult time.
Prayers for Dwight. Met him years ago. Very personable man and a legend in our sport.
Prayers sent ..... damn cancer really sucks!
That's horrible to hear. Dwight is one of the most humble men I've ever met and a man I really look up to. His book "Hunting Open Country Mule Deer" is a classic that was one of the key reads that helped me become the hunter I am today.
I bought a Dwight Schuh back pack when they first came out, because I figured some of Dwight might rub off on me. Top notch bow hunter and person.
Many prayers sent, to Dwight and his family. Truly a class act. This horrendous disease is at epidemic proportions, and must be eradicated.
I really enjoy Dwight's writings and also his quick wit. He could really give to Pat in a kind way and it was obvious he likes him. Makes you feel good being in his presence. Peace be with you!
Here is a picture of four tremendous Bow Hunting ambassadors from BowHunter Magazine at the Phoenix, P&Y Convention. Left to right, Curt Wells, MR James, Dwight and Larry D Jones.
Praying for Dwight and his Family. He had a great influence in my life as a young man. He is one of the reasons that I started bow hunting at a young age. I couldn't wait to pick up Bowhunter Magazine and read his articles. Wishing Dwight and his Family the best.
I also bought a Dwight Schuh pack for my first spike out elk hunt. He's one of the main reasons I started hunting out west. Truly an inspiring Man and writer. Prayers for you and your family Mr Schuh
I met Dwight several years ago at our state bowhunters banquet. He is a very good man, and a great bowhunter/writer. God bless him and his family.
Good ol' Dwight Schuh pack...
Damn I hate to hear this! He is my all-time favorite outdoor writer. My favorite article of his was when he and a friend (Gary) hunted deer in Kansas and stayed in an old grain bin! I wish the best for Dwight and will send prayers his way.
A class act for sure! Get well soon!
Prayers for Dwight...Gods speed.
Prayers for a full recovery Dwight - get well!
Wishing him and his family all the best. Prayers sent.
Hope he can pull through! Best wishes Dwight! Kevin
Praying that Dwight can pull through this. His open country mule deer book was the first book I bought when I moved out west. Prayers sent to him and his family.
Dwight is a good friend. My son got to share a goose hunting pit with him a couple years ago. A couple of days later I showed my son Dwight on BOWHUNTERTV and explained to him the same guy on TV was the guy sitting next to him goose hunting my son thought that was pretty awesome. As some of you know he has been fighting Cancer for many years and fighting hard. This is an aggressive Pneumonia that has hit him hard and the Dr.'s are having a hard time getting on top of it. It's serious and yes please join in "Healing Prayers" and specifically to CLEAR Dwight's lungs! Prayers buddy!
Prayers sent from Indiana. I met him several years ago, and he autographed his Hunting Open Country Mule Deer book for me. Very nice man and great writer. Hope he beats this.
Hopefully someone can point out all of these posts to him. I’m sure it would lift his spirits to read them.
Prayers for all involved...
At the P and Y banquet in Lancaster a while back I was having my copy the new Traditional record book signed by friends as well as “famous“ attendees . As I walked into a restroom Dwight was washing his hands I thought his would be a good addition to the memento.
As he passed me I said I don’t normally talk to strange men in bathrooms but would you mind signing this... Dwight said “ we’ll dont start now”. lol
He poked his head backed into the door and said he was in a rush for a meeting and track him down over the next couple of days and he would be happy to.. lol
Terrible. He seems like a good man, excellent writer and hunter. Prayers to him.
I grew up reading his articles in Bowhunter. He always had me daydreaming about wild places and awesome adventures. I was immediately drawn to his writing and bowhunting prowess. From what I understand about Dwight, there is probably only one thing he loves more than his family and bowhunting and that is Jesus Christ.
God Bless Dwight. You are in my prayers.
I just talked with his family. IT'S BAD FOLKS! He's been put on hospice! Pray for the family as well.
Very sad news. Prayers for all.
I never met the man, but feel I have known him for years from videos, TV and his writing. He has been excellent. Prayer sent for him and his family.
Great writer and hunter. I really enjoy reading all his stuff.
Sad....repeating whats been said above many times. He has been a great inspiration to so many, including me. I love that Dwight has never been afraid to recognize and acknowledge the Creator while enjoying and writing about creation.
Good guy. Hoping and praying for the best for him and his family.
Prayers for Dwight and his family from Wisconsin. I enjoyed his writings and also bought his pack for my first "out west" excursions. He opened my life to new adventures.
Dwight has always been an inspiration for me and all brothers and sisters of the bow. Prayers sent.
Prayers for Dwight Schuh. One of the good guys for sure!
Have had the blessing of corresponding with Dwight and sharing a couple of meals with him over the years. You won't meet a more humble, finer person. Praying for his healing and his family.
Well hopefully someone can show his family this site and they can read these posts and appreciate the impact he has had on people.
A very nice man and ambassador for all of us. Prayers for Dwight.
My thoughts and prayers are with Dwight and his family; his excellent writing provided this British bowhunter with a host of valuable information over the years.
Bless him and his family. Sorry to hear the bad news. Hoping for a miracle
Major bummer to hear of this. I had heard that he was struggling for a while. Peace to Dwight and his family.
Sad news indeed. He is one of my favorite writers and always was enjoyable to watch on Bowhunter TV. I got to have a conversation with him at P&Y in St. Louis, and seemed to be an extremely humble and down to earth man. Prayers for him and his family.
I have read and learned a lot from his book Bugling for Elk. A classic. Sending good thoughts.
Met him at the Phx P&Y. One of the highlights of my life was getting a pic with him and chatting for a few minutes. Prayers from AZ.
We are praying for a miracle for the Schuh family! Dwight, if by chance you get to read this : Thank you for being a great ambassador to our sport. I got to met you at a ND Bowhunter banquet. Your writings inspired me to hunt the west... a 22 hour drive, diy trip to Idaho-“Bungling” for elk! I was instantly hooked and actually moved our family west to be closer to the action. You have always conducted yourself in an honest, positive, and humble way. And it never went unnoticed. You are a Bowhunting Icon and I’m proud to say that I met you! God bless you and your family! The Arndt’s

Still going strong !
Dwight Shuh inspired pack
Still going strong !
You can do this Dwight overcome this mountainous obstacle!
He has been my inspiration for western big game hunting. bought his books and still use his pack, last year moose hunt, this year wolf hunt. It was one of his articles that got me into appling for western hunts. his point was there are units with higher number of animals and lower number of hunters making for a great experience for the regular guy! After 25 years still in the app game. Met him at P&Y convention Madison Wis was neat to thank him in person. Didn’t realize he was so tall.
Thanks Dwight for all you have done for the bowhunting community.
My deepest heartfelt prayers go out to him & his entire family. Love Dwight, great writer and a man I have always wanted to meet.
This thread got me to thinking about how Dwight and Curt handled the sub legal bull moose in 2010. Pretty much speaks to the character of the men involved. I know Curt, Larry D, and MR, and the rest over at Bowhunter are in a lot of pain. Hoping for peace for all.

P&Y Convention-Denver 2009
I have had the pleasure of several conversations over the years with Dwight at P&Y conventions. Always a soft-spoken and willing to answer questions and share knowledge. He and Roy Keefer's input were instrumental in helping me properly set up an effective lower poundage bow for hunting.
His articles were some of my favorite reads in Bowhunter magazine.
hang tough Dwight, you've been a inspiration to so many of us
A couple Bowsite’s have requested I post the articles I’ve saved and posted on my shop wall and given to my kids. Here they are. Classic reads
Sad news. Dwight is among the best of the best in all respects as many above have stated. I wish the best for him and his family at this very difficult time.......Bob
What a great man in all regards. God help him, and bless him and his family.
My friend Dave Doran is in the Hunting Open Country Mule Deer with Dwight and Larry D. I thought first of that and then the ELK Fever video that was my first purchase many years ago. Dave passed a couple years ago so I'm hoping he's got a couple spotted for Dwight to chase- but Much later.
Still have my Schuh pack too.......
Vintage Schulz. Look at the pack frame??
Vintage Schulz. Look at the pack frame??
He signed my kids youth Schaffer silvertips at a couple p&y conventions and was always really good to them
Sorry the images seem grainy. The pics I have on my phone zoom in clear as a bell
Prayers...
After looking through the above pictures, forgot I have one of his back packs...
Wow, sorry to hear this, have many of the same books posted with notes from Dwight...Pages were falling out of my Hunting Open Country Mule Deer when he signed it...He just smiled!
Dwight is one of the finest gentleman I have ever known. Very family oriented and a good friend thru the years. My Prayers to you Dwight and your family and close friends! You are loved and respected! -}}}}}}}}--------------->
I had the pleasure of meeting Dwight at St. Louis and never read anything of his or saw him do anything without class. Grace and humility was what he represented, we should all try to be more like Dwight! prayers sent
This is terrible to read this morning
Prayers from Utah
Keep the Faith, Robb
Nothing but respect for this good man. Much sympathy for Dwight and his family as they walk a hard trail now. Prayers from Ohio.
Really sad to here this, he was a very good man in every respect. Prayers.
Very sad news. Had the pleasure of guiding him on several occasions for deer and bears. Very humble guy and fun to banter with once you got to know him. Always enjoyed his writing and he has been a great ambassador for bowhunting. Hope he and his family realize how well respected he is.
Such a good man to hunt with and be around. We should all aspire to be like him. I know its not important but, wonder what type of cancer and if it is agent orange caused?
Pat,
I am glad you did that. I hope Dwight reads this so he can see how well he is appreciated.
God Bless the Schuh family.
I loved watching Dwight Schuh and Larry D. Jones hunting videos growing up.
I did too David. “Buck Fever” is a classic! Thanks Pat hope this thread can be a little wind beneath his wings. God Bless
Through Dwight's writing he brought me on his journeys of adventures chasing mule deer, elk, moose and bear, things I couldn't chase in Iowa when growing up. I also learned about bow set-ups, shooting and tuning. He lit a fire in me that burns until this very day. It is obvious he has reached many of us and touched us all in so many ways. Prayers to Dwight and his family to get through this difficult time so more memories can be made.
Many very supportive posts on here- it's apparent Dwight has touched us with his life and actions.
Thanks for the pictures Wishedhead- I haven't read those articles.
Here's a link to Dwight's Face Book page. Wow, he's done a Lot of Ironman's!! Some posts from family about his earlier cancer treatments also.
https://www.facebook.com/dwightschuh/
Prayers from Wyoming. I've been a fan of Dwight's ever since I read his book "Bugling for Elk" in the mid -80's. I thoroughly enjoyed the old DVD's he made with Larry D. Jones, especially where they took turns putting pine cones in each other's boots. They always seemed like genuine, good people.
One of the few TV celebrities that I truly enjoyed watching. As has been said many times, what a true, down to earth man.
Very enjoyable man!!!! Just became one of the boys when he spoke at a Bowhunters of Wyoming banquet years ago. Praying for him and his family!!!
Like Pat mentioned above. I also sent this thread to his daughter Emily. I am hoping that Dwight can read all these great comments about him. He is a class act all the way. Thanks for many great memories Dwight!
Always admired Mr. Schuh from afar for how he represented us bowhunters. Had a few friends that hunted with him and all had nothing but good to say. Prayers for him and his family.
As good of a bowhunter as Dwight is I think he is as good of a person. I remember well the giant typical Muley he killed on the famous Paunsagunt. In our family we use his name in a lot of phrases "D-white" tail ":D-white" face ol' muley, "D-white" truck. I think his philosophical writings connect with the masses and provide both entertainment and enlightenment. We can only hope he can fight through this setback. IMHO he is the King of Bowhunting authors, Dwight if you read this remember "If the Schuh fits, wear it well"!
What more could someone ask for than to leave this world with his legacy. All saying what a great person he is . A life well lived for sure.
Man, I hate to hear about this. I think I read every magazine article that he put out in the 90s and a lot since then. Seems like there was an annual bowhunting publication that was entirely his, but that's been a while. I first read about packing with llamas in one of his articles. Prayers sent for him and family.
Prayers sent from Va. Best of luck with your battle....hope to be reading about you and Larry on another elk hunt soon..
Healing, Grace, and peace to the family. No doubt, a positive influence and inspiration for me and thousands more.
Have met Dwight and spoke with him at P&Y several times. Really enjoyed our discussions. Also enjoyed his articles and writing. Very humble and accomplished bowhunter. Sad to hear the news that he has taken a turn for the worst. Prayers sent for Dwight and his family.
Prayers and thoughts for Dwight and his family. I’ve always enjoyed reading his articles, seemed like a regular good guy and somebody you’d enjoy spending time around a campfire with.
Hearing this news is truly heartbreaking. I've never met Dwight. But I've read his books and his articles. I consider 'Hunting Open-Country Mule Deer' to be the Bible of pursuing mulies with a bow. It's a book that I continue to re-read from time-to-time. More importantly, though, Dwight Schuh has a well-earned reputation for his high ethical standards. In that we can learn as much from the life he has lived as we can from the words he has committed to the printed page. My prayers are with Dwight during this difficult time.
Dwight has always been a class act, sure hope he pulls through this and gets back up on the mountain this fall!
Dwight, Bolt the Llama and Me (Dieter). Back packing trip just a year and a half ago
Dwight, Bolt the Llama and Me (Dieter). Back packing trip just a year and a half ago
As his grandson I have seen first hand what a wonderful and tremendous man he is. Ever since the tender age of 6 years old when he placed that Brand New Matthews Genesis bow in my hands he has been by my side ever since. I write this to you many fans of his by his bedside right now. I’d ask all of you he ya influenced to live everyday and hunt with the passion he did for the rest of your days. As his family we thank you for the prayers being sent. God bless to all.
Well done Dieter!
God Bless your entire family!
Dieter, looks like the genes were passed down the line. As your grandpa did, give back as much as you can in your life and blessings will follow.
Prayers from Ohio. I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on that Dwight wrote.
Dwight, you have one more mountain to summit, but you don't do it alone. And when you break over the top, the view will leave you speechless and it will neither end nor age.
You have "fought the good fight" and will soon rest in your reward. "May God bless you and keep you and may His face shine upon you..."
Dieter, Thanks for the update. As you can see by these posts, your grandfather has made a tremendous positive impact in this world. Not only in the outdoor world, but how we conduct ourselves throughout this crazy life. Most of us can only hope to contribute a portion of goodness that your grandpa has. Prayers for your grandfather.
Prayers for Dwight and family. I grew up in a non hunting family but my family always encouraged me to pursue what i was drawn to. My Christmas present each year was a subscription to Bowhunter and Field and Stream. So thankful for those articles that stoked the fires in me. Hope to meet you Dwight to say thanks.
Praying for you Dwight and family!
Prayers to the Schuh family. Very sad indeed and I hate it that cancer can bring this proud man down. Th entire family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Prayers sent for Dwight and his family.
A True Role Model for all bowhunters- May GOD Bless you and your family Dwight. Thanks for your inspiration.
I pray that our God and Savior Jesus Christ will bring peace and healing to Dwight and his family!
So sad to hear this, prayers to Dwight and his family during this difficult time, he is one of my archery heroes, met him at the ATA show once followed his writings for years.
Pat - great idea and thanks for doing that. I still remember the moose video where he shot and then had to jump out of the way and the bull missed him by like less than 5'. Hopefully, he can escape this also. Prayers sent
Dwight has been a hero/hunting mentor for me about as long as I can remember. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult period.
Dwight Schuh is bowhunting. Prayers to Dwight and his family.
Well done, Dwight...a full life...
Prayers sent, God Bless all.
Prayers for Dwight and his family.

Prayers and thoughts from Colorado. As a teenager I didn't have a bowhunting mentor. My dad hunted but not with a bow. No internet, so I consumed all I could from magazines and VHS tapes. Thank you Mr Schuh for all the knowledge and for taking me along on your adventures with your writing.
I had the privilege to meet Dwight a few years ago. Soon after unpacking and settling in, we chatted for a while that lead to military service. We chatted about Army life and he told me stories about serving in Vietnam.
What a great guy he is. His camera man is great too.
Stay strong Dwight!
Dwight is my favorite writer of all time. I love his philosophy. I had the honor of meeting him in Mpls. at the MN bowhunter convention many years ago. Lord be with you.
Dieter, Good to see you on here kid! Not sure if you remember me or not but this is Scooter from Scooter's Youth Hunting Camp that your grandfather brought you to several years ago. I am glad you came over and showed the family this thread.
Any updates on Dwight’s condition? Still praying for you.
I spoke to them this morning Nick. It's just a matter of time now, but he is taking his time on his way to heaven. He's taking his time and being slow and steady like the great bowhunter that he is!
Thanks for the update Scott. Continued prayers.
More prayers sent from MN

Met Dwight at the P&Y Convention in PA years back. I was awed by him. I read everything by him I could through the years and learned many things. He helped me become the bowhunter I am today and will be forever thankful for his contributions.
I keep checking back for good news. I guess the best news at this point is, by all accounts he's a good man who will get his just reward. Godspeed Dwight....
Although I never had the privilege of meeting him...I loved all his writings. Mr. Schuh had an amazing way with words, and I often felt like I was right there with him on his hunts. He was the real deal and he did it all the right way. Years ago, in the early 90's when we were just getting into the bowhunting game, Dwight was in Edmonton, transitioning into a hunt. A meet and greet night was set up at Trophy Book Archery, one of the local archery dealers at that time. I couldn't go, but my brother did...My brother had the good fortune of meeting and talking with him. We had been struggling a lot with completing stalks on Open Country Mule deer. Dale had shared some of our struggles with him, and Dwight listened ever so carefully. His response was simple and humble, just like the man. He explained that once you were close enough to get a good shot, and you were comfortable with that distance...stay put and wait. Don't get too close. Simple stuff...but smart. We killed many bucks after... God Speed Mr. Schuh. Thank you for all your words.
Not much more can be said...obviously a much loved and respected man. I always admired his willingness to share his faith...and write about his mis-cues as well as the triumphs....praying for a miracle.
Joe
Dang, shared a hunting camp with him once. He is down to earth and genuine. Good old barrie broadheads. I believe that was his. Showed me the ivories in my elk's mouth.
Damn. Sorry to hear this. Enjoy reading his articles. Prayers sent.
Damn, I just stumbled upon this. I've everything he and Larry D Jones ever did and I have worn them all out. They are the pioneers of western bowhunting to me. Always will be. I met Dwight at the Kansas Bowhunters Assoc. several years ago. My experience was no different than everyone elses. Praying for a miracle.
Sad news on Facebook. Fred Eichler reports that Dwight passed away this afternoon. God bless hehim and his family.
Condolences and Prayers for Dwight's family. I really enjoyed reading his work. Too sad
Yes sir, very sad. God bless him & his family!

Sad news. Continued prayers for the family.
Hello Bowsite friends! Dwight passed away with family by his side this afternoon. Take care ol' friend! If you can they are getting ready to escort him out of the VA as I type this with Flags by his side and the playing of TAPS. Many tears so take a minute to pray for comfort for his friends and family as they carry him out.
My eyes are swelling with tears...at least we know that Dwight is no longer suffering.
I would like to read Dwight's description of heaven, and what his being with Jesus is like. I suspect he would make us feel just like we were there when he wrote about it. The hope of every Christian is to be with the Lord when our time is over here. Dwight has just got there. I hope everyone that admired the man comes to know his Lord.
One of the men I wish I had met. I’ll see him someday in the future...
“Precious in the sight of The Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15
-Mitch
We lost a great one! RIP!!
You were one of the good ones and I know you are walking the hills of Heaven with your bow in your hands.
There is a an obituary of Dwight on another post by Mt. Man if you're interested. Its worth a read....
