Trying to time it right for this Spring, what are the thoughts from Latitude 38d - 41d Ohio, Indiana, Illinois in this Spring? Was going overseas last year and had to do it, maybe too early last year. Thanks for your ideas/thoughts.

I’d do the first or second week of March. Last couple of years we’ve had warm weather early and have had great luck with clover and chichory. Here’s a plot we frost seeded the second week of March last year.

JW - That plot looks incredible!
May I ask what seed mix you used?
I've thought about doing mine and mixing in 50 lbs. wheat per acre as a nurse crop.
Thoughts?

Thanks Milkweed. It was a mixture of Ladino, Dutch white and Durana from the local grain store. Couldn’t hurt to plant a nurse crop. We’ve had our best luck frost seeding in plots that were brassicas the previous fall. Usually have a clean seed bed and you typically get good early germination.

Mid to late March or anytime before a forecast of an inch or so of snow during that time period
