Nearby high school replaced their wrestling mats. Broad heads pass thru though. I learned the hard way. Will double up the mat this summer. Sorry for the distant and snowy pic. Brutal winter here in NE Minnesota

Back stops? We don’t need no stinking back stops

I use the basement wall, which is cinderblock. It stops arrows just fine. The arrows don’t do too well though...

5 X 5 Round bale. No pass through's. To much snow for a pic and still coming down.

I never miss........

But, just in case I do there's 85 acres out there that I can hunt my arrow in....:-)

I would like to see basement setups for those who shoot daily, but outdoors is too cold/snowy.

For inside, an 18" X 18" heavy cardboard box stuffed loosely with cotton rags works very well. When the face is shot out, just tape another square of cardboard over it. Reach through the top and fluff the rags occasionally. It also helps if you don't put targets against a solid wall, so there is some "give" to absorb energy. A three inch thick, soft foam is good or even just a spacer along the bottom.

A 450 grain arrow from an untuned 70 pound bow will get 8” penetration through the horse mat and 1 layer of sheet metal. ;). Kids arrows don’t go through the horse mat.

Nothing fancy . Just hung a target at the end of the room , use it for my recurve practice . At 13 yards , if you can’t hit from that distance probably need a optometrist more than a backstop.

For the winter time I hit my local pro shop once a week, usually Wednesday nights with three other friends. 30 target 3d, two level 15 down and then 15 up.

34 yards inside at work. If I were to shank a shot badly, my arrow would be stopped by cases of paint. That would suck.

Here is a good target too. Take the plastic wrap used to wrap pallets/ boxes and stuff tightly into box and tape shut. Arrows with field tips stop well.

I want to practice daily, even if it means just picking up and shooting 5 arrows. A buddy has sent me on a mission to become the best I can at archery. Great guy.

New movable archery target.
I just finished my archery the other day. Nice to shoot daily. I built the target with a 3/4” x 4’ x 6’ rubber mat as backstop. Another key, it is movable, I can pull to different locations. It works awesome.

Tough to beat a couple Excelsior bales with a horse mat behind them you will measure its lifespan in decades not years if kept covered when not in use

Any ideas what to use in front/ behind rubber mat. I decided to shoot the mat today and spent 20 minutes backing arrow out. The shaft sticks to rubber like super glue. A stainless steel mesh (like fishing filet gloves) hanging would work. I thought rubber mat was good until I stuck it. I have sheets of 4” closed cell foam I could try in front of rubber but not sure it will like sunlight long term.

I sure like that target is very mobile.

Home made bags & an archery net. Everybody at my place shoot sticks. The net was for my wife when she was first learning...it holds her arrows well, but mine & my son's will punch through. Won't go far, but they're on the other side :^)

Primitive all the way... :) I don't need a real backstop. ;) I don't miss, or when I do, I don't care. Nothing but woods behind it.
