Look carefully at the changes, especially to the application process and requirements.
I got mine in mail 2 days ago. Definitely some interesting changes.
FYI - it will cost NonRes $102.50 + tag fee to apply for elk/deer/pronghorn...
The extra fee is a bummer for us NR’s, but it’s inline with most other states.
I just downloaded it a few minutes ago. I have not checked it out yet.
Some interesting changes for sure. If you want pref points for elk/deer/pronghorn you are now going to be out $200+ per year. Throw on another $300 for Moose/Sheep/Goat and a NR will be out $500 plus in CO. Where a year ago it would have been less that $100. I guess that should fix the influx of applicants from last year.
So you have to buy the small game license just to purchase a point as well?
Midwestz it appears that way. The good news is that on your way through to hunt AZ, NM, or Utah, you can stop over in CO for a couple days and hunt pine squirrels!
I’m coming up with ~$120 for app, small game license, and habitat stamp fees for NR elk, deer, and pronghorn. Clearly states “no preference point fee” for those three this year. Small game license seems like a wash for three points. Plus, if I draw the deer tag I’m accustomed to I can take my shotgun and chase some quail/roosters that I had to buy an extra license for previously.
Add it to the fishing license that I also won't use.
Choke cough choke!
This is getting pricey with 3 NR apps, and applying to 4 other states.
Does selling an actual license affect Pittman Robertson dollars differently than point fees? If so I can see why they’d go this route. Either way $100-$120 seems pretty middle of the road compared to point fees for those three species in other states. I fail to see the outrage.
For anyone that archery hunts 44/45/47/444, it is now considered OTC BULL ONLY. But that doesnt mean you can use that tag in regular OTC units as it has its own hunt code - EM044U1A
So is this correct for nonresident?
Elk licence: $661.75 .... App fee: $9.00 .... Habitat Fee: $10.00 .... Search & Rescue Fee: .25 cents .... Wildlife fee: $1.50.
What am I missing?
Thanks, Bob
Missing your small game license
If a NR wants to apply or gain points for deer, elk, and antelope it is:
9 + 9 + 9 for application fees
10 habitat stamp
81.75 small game
Equals $ 118.75 which is similar to other states.
If a NR just wants to buy an OTC elk license to go hunting:
661.75 elk license
10 habitat stamp
Equals $ 671.75, which is also similar to other states
Elkstabber: So if I purchase over the counter I do NOT have to purchase a small game license, nor the Search & Rescue nor Wildlife stamp?
Only pay: Elk licence: $661.75 .... Habitat Fee: $10.00 .... $671.75
Colorado is weird because if you wanted to apply for an elk tag and get it a NR would pay: 9 + 10 + 81.75 + 661.75 = 762.50
But, if an NR wants to skip the draw and go OTC then an elk tag is 10 + 661.75 = 671.75
So it costs $90 more to draw one than buy one. This is unusual for any state.
The SAR is included in each license
Correct Inshart. The Small Game license is only needed to apply (unless of course, you hunt small game). The $1.75 is included with any license.
and you wonder why folks get popped for improper licensing. This is as clear as mud....
I did read that incorrectly......just the small game license to get pref points.
I wish that Colorado made changes to curtail NRs hunting OTC elk in CO vs curtailing NRs to put in for LE units. I would prefer paying $2000 for a tag once every 3 years than $700 for a tag every year knowing that I can't even poop in the woods without 5 different bowhunters watching me in their binos.
It is a brilliant financial move for them. I have NEVER paid for a preference point fee because I hunt every year. I now have to pay $80 that I have never had to pay before. So now I am paying the equivalent of 2 preference point fees even though I will still hunt every year. However, will probably start apply for an antelope fee now since that will be only $9 more.
Mark my words, though, GET READY FOR THE APP FEES TO GO UP IN THE COMING YEARS.
Anyone know if you will have to buy a small game license to buy a "leftover" license?
I’m still amazed they gave everyone the option to not buy pp for the big 3 and continue to put in with existing points. That’s a ton of money they’re giving up! 50 dollars a person x thousands!
Did you guys see the new regulation 'no more hunting on Saturdays and Sundays hunting is allowed starting at noon" apparently put in place to minimize people in the woods, the recreational people will get the woods all to themselves on the weekends. So I guess we need to be careful what we wish for. That's one solution to over crowding
I thought only nonresidents were prohibited from hunting on Saturday-Sunday?
Jaq.. you are correct. I misread. But they can hunt from noon until last shooting light on Sundays
I also read where Non Res have until midnight April 2 to submit their applications
Unless the Sunday is followed by a holiday.
Kad.. now your making things up. It doesn't differentiate between holidays or not. Just Saturday and Sunday period.
Back off you guys and go entertain your valentines!
I think some of the guys on here ARE entertaining their valentines!!!! Lol!
Please tell me the nonresident weekend hunting ban is a joke.......I haven't gotten my regs in the mail yet
NR bear tag drops from $350 to $100!
"Please tell me the nonresident weekend hunting ban is a joke.......I haven't gotten my regs in the mail yet"
Yes, they are yanking your chain. There is no NR weekend hunting ban, but you must wear flip-flops between Saturday 6AM till Sunday 8 PM.
"NR bear tag drops from $350 to $100!"
I had missed that, I guess I will now flush another $100 down the toilet! But this will guarantee me to never see another bear in CO, so it will be a safer hunt.
Some units have "B" list bear tags. That has never happened before.
Ah, well as long as crocs are considered sandals, I'll be ok. As long as just for the weekend
