Saw him last year...Going through threads and trying to get a idea what I’m looking at! I know ears are a good indicator, how about nose length?

Agree with WV and Shug. Nice mature bear but not a monster...yet.

Depends on location and hunt. Bears are tough to judge!

Best way to tell is a ground check.

I would say he is not a young bear but not an extra large one. He has narrow, beadie eyes yet no crease in his forehead. Most of the bigger, older bears I have seen will have a forehead crease....I don't see it in that one.

Looks like a POW bear. I'd say average if so. He just doesn't look blocky to me from that position.

19-Feb-19
Not blocky at all. Just thick through the neck and front shoulders. It’s obviously a fall bear and one that’s well fed.

What she isn’t is a Pope and Young candidate. Probably a 225 pound range animal. But, a 200 pound Black Bear is a very respectable animal.

That’s my guess. A sow with a small frame that’s filled out. And for all but the most dedicated bear trophy hunters, a great specimen on a fall hunt.

I could be wrong. As there isn’t much to go on. But, I’m sticking with that.

I think it’s a sow too.

If it's POW a 200lb fall bear is a dink. The photos above scream sow to me especially the side view.

Great photo, I'd pass on that unless I had other indicativos the photo is not giving me.

Thank guys, so look at width between eyes also...

It is a good bear but not a great bear (yet). It is riding the line at present. Will probably make P&Y now, but it is headed north to a better score.

Depends on your goals as to whether you shoot it or not.
