Hell, yes, Wyoming!

From: Treeline
24-Feb-19
I loved the last paragraph:

“However, the commission could decide instead to trap and relocate grizzlies to California or “other willing states with suitable habitat.”

Way to go Wyoming!

If the court says that Wyoming can’t hunt them then I am all for hauling all the problem bears to California. Preferably relocated to former grizzly habitat like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Certainly need them in all the California national parks!

While they are at it, a few truck loads of wolves would be certainly welcome in California and would help to clean up their homeless mess.

Good for them!

Wyoming should start a "#Where do you want your Bear" campaign. Any politician, judge or anti that speaks against should have grizzlies dropped off in their voter's area. City or not! Let grizzlies reclaim THEIR green space. A number of grizzlies could live well off of the food wasted at drive through's alone.

The Wyoming government should be flooded with support letters, from all hunters, for their courage and common sense, drowning out the squealing of the spandex spammers with their selfish and flabby world views.

WYO is spot on. Nice to see them stand up for themselves. Wish MT would do the same

From: Ucsdryder

The Bay Area had a ton of grizzlies back in the day! They should put them back in their original habitat. It isn’t right that they were displaced!!!! Poor bears.

From: HUNT MAN
24-Feb-19
I I agree that they should be returned to their natural habitat. California would be the perfect place.

From: Treeline

The 9th Circuit in San Francisco is the one that keeps screwing with the rest of the USA with respect to national security, federal versus state rights, and endangered species.

I say the semi's should unload bears at the front door.

At least the bears are not hiding any concealed weapons and should be able to roll right through the metal detectors!

Should be a great environment for them with plenty for them to eat...

While WY is at it, they should load up several semi loads of those invasive, federally protected, non-native, habitat destroying feral horses and dump them on the doorstep as well.

In my opinion grizzlies should be managed by the western state game agencies not federal overreach. These judges don't understand or care about all the funds states wasted on managing these bears. The bottom line is they only care about these special interest groups, who have no sound biological proof why these bears shouldn't be hunted.

Beautiful!

From: Ambush
24-Feb-19
I love how they slapped California right across the face with the gauntlet. Nothing subtle there, just put up or shut up!!

In BC we often half joke about dumping all the nuisance bears into Vancouver's neighborhood parks. They already get all wound up about coyotes snatching their little dogs. It's always different if it affects a person directly.

From: Treeline
24-Feb-19
I hope it doesn’t!

Semi truck loads of pissed off grizzlies dumped off in California sounds like a hell of a lot more fun!

From: Ambush

Can't wait for the headlines! "Runner chokes out grizzly on California Trail. Bear dies from spandex stuck in it's throat!"

From: 3under
24-Feb-19
Right on Treeline. Hopefully those transplanted grizzlies clean up the nuisance liberal loon problem quickly, to help prevent any more of these anti Americans from spreading to and destroying all the great western states.

24-Feb-19
Damn straight treeline, drop them on the 405

From: Scoot
24-Feb-19
Hahaha, I wish it were true. That would be far too fitting an end for the loony lefties out there though...

Seriously, what do you guys think the odds are of this hunt happening? My guess is between slim and none (again).

From: Ucsdryder

Sad part...they’d take them and if they killed people they would be ok with it...

I couldn't believe it so I googled all over trying to verify the story. I found that it's real. Wyoming really is bucking up to the feds. Very cool to watch.

WY stood their ground with the wolves and won. Took some heat for it too with others running in circles squealing with skirts over their heads.....

Good for WY. Some good solid folks there with their heads on right. Must have something to do with growing up leaning into the wind.....

From: Branden

I have a different view I guess. Most of the land the bears live on is federal land. If the majority of the owners of that land want bears than they should be able to have bears. As soon as those bears that the states don't want step off federal land than let the state manage them as they see fit.

I used to feel the same as everyone else. But then I started reading how any non res should feel privileged that residents allow us to hunt anything in their state even though a lot of the state owned wildlife lives on federally owned land. Since it is federally owned then why can't everyone who owns the land make the decision what they want done with it? Not just the residents of that state that already get more benefits from that land then non residents?

Also I would probably feel different about using actual biology to manage them. Except with laws like the Wyoming guide law which has nothing to do with biology why should we make an exception and use that argument for bears?

I have my suit of armor on now so have at me :)

25-Feb-19
The answer is easy and simple Branden. The land may be federally owned, but the animals are under the stewardship of the residents of the Wyoming . That has been upheld in court many times. Next.

From: Steve H.
25-Feb-19
You made it pretty easy Branden, you've left yourself very exposed. The courts have determined that wildlife is the States to manage regardless of land status the animal occupy, that why a private landowner doesn't get to set their own seasons.

25-Feb-19
And if the elk/deer, etc, that live on Federal Land can and need to be managed, then so too with the bears, so your logic falls flat, IMO.

From: Branden
25-Feb-19
If that is so then why did it take so long for wolves to be managed? Why are they still not managed in more states in the US then they are managed in? Why aren't wild horses managed? Why aren't grizzlies managed yet? And on and on and on. Because at the end of the day the states play by the feds rules whether they like them or not.

Idy lots of animals need managed biologically. But most states manage socially. Look at region G. How is cutting back 60 non res tags biological management when an extra 500 residents could hunt it that year? Also I have never read one study yet that says grizzlies are at max capacity on federal land?

From: Branden
25-Feb-19
Also if the states have the say in managing the game then am I to understand that Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming all got wolves relocated to those respective states because that is what the residents of those states wanted? Or were they told they had too?

From: Steve H.
25-Feb-19
"If that is so then why did it take so long for wolves to be managed?" ESA (Endangered Species Act) and activist judges ruling outside the law.

Why aren't wild horses managed? Wild Horse and Burrow Act (Total BULLSHIT for an invasive species)

Zero

From: swampokie
25-Feb-19
This hunt will not happen. Nice posturing by Wyoming but that's all it is. Nice gesture to its citizens but feds and granola army wont back down

25-Feb-19
"If that is so then why did it take so long for wolves to be managed?"

Because of ARA lawsuits.

"Why are they still not managed in more states in the US then they are managed in?"

Because they either don't exist in those states or because of ARA lawsuits.

"Why aren't wild horses managed?"

Because of a wrong-headed act essentially started by ARAs and signed into law in 1971 alongside the Marine Mammal Act, another wrong-headed law that had nothing to do with science and everything to do with feel-good laws by ARAs.

"Why aren't grizzlies managed yet?"

Again, because of ARA lawsuits.

And what do any of your questions have to do with whether public land grizzlies in WY should be hunted or not?

From: Bowfreak
25-Feb-19
I don't think it will happen either but I suspect that the Trump administration might look the other way on this issue. It's possible the feds have made it known that they have no intentions in enforcement with respect to the the GYE grizzly esa re-listing.

Let's all remember that Judge Dana Christensen is an Obama appointee. And let's not forget that a prominent Montanan who considers himself a "hunter and angler" was on the Committee to Elect Obama, was a fundraiser for him, who then appointed a slew of anti-hunting judges who are ruling against scientific management of wolves and grizzlies. Ahem...

Will be interesting, if Liz Cheney’s bill gets to the floor, to see how the vote falls with respect to party lines.

From: Jaquomo
31-Jul-19
^^^ pretty sure we can predict how the vote will break down when the Dems defeat it. If they even let it out of committee (doubtful). Now if she would just bundle-in free health care for illegals and free needles for addicts, it might have a chance..

31-Jul-19
^^^Cheney’s predecessor, Cynthia Lummis, sponsored a similar bill back when we were fighting the wolf insanity. That one didn’t make it through, and I’m sure this will suffer a similar fate.

Absolutely ridiculous

From: Lost Arra

Grizzly bears will never be legally hunted in the lower 48 except possibly by a Native American from a tribe with some obscure treaty clause. And I would love to see it happen that way to show the GY ecosystem will not implode by killing a bear. When was the last legal grizzly hunt in the lower 48? Early 70's? The animal rights extremists have successfully managed to extend the zoo laws of Yellowstone Park to the surrounding states and I can't see a political climate in the foreseeable future that would ever reverse that but an Indian treaty from the 1800's just might do it.

From: Franzen

Somebody just needs to put a little bug in the Crow ear that grizzly are on the table, considering they can apparently hunt where they please.

From: SmokedTrout

The Crow tribe was one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit saying the grizzly are sacred to them.

Interesting. Obviously didn't know that. It is rather ironic that the grizzly is sacred, but they can decimate other game as they please.

Well forget about Grizzlies being delisted any time soon.

FWS has until March 31, 2021 to post a status of each griz population in the lower 48. I'm not sure exactly what that all entails, except for providing bait for lawyers to find a technicality to further postpone delisting.

Here's the pdf of the order:
