It's only found in the Pacific NW so far as I'm aware.
A recent publication just published last month showed Treponema species of bacteria is the cause of the disease.

I’v never heard of it in the Blues but it’s fairly common on the west coat where it rains constantly and the moss covered ground is always soft.
