If anyone has hunted Wyoming Unit 1 or Utah San Juan, I'd love to hear your input. PMs would be great.

Thanks.

How many Utah points you have?

See attached for an epic San Juan bowhunt story.

Unfortunately, a lot of the pictures are gone. :-(

I love BB's old thread. I remember reading it when he was posting, and wish those pics were still there.

I'll have both tags this year. Should make for an interesting 30 days of bow hunting.

Lonebilly,

Pm BB.... I will let him know you are going to. Once you draw I am sure he will help you out in the areas we were hunting. It’s an amazing place!!!!

I'd wait till you have the tag in hand to contact people as they're usually more open at that time. With only 1 NR bonus round tag, San Juan is never a lock. Even if you have 25 points, crazier things have happened.

I do have both tags. I burned 12 pts in WY, and made a donation for the SJ tag. I say that with hesitation, as I know some might take offense and I prefer to avoid negativity for indulging my mid-life crisis. :-)

I understand your hesitation; there's always 1 or 2 that have to say something. Grats on the tags, you certainly do have quite the September lined up.

Treeline, which hunt are you referring to???

Congrats Lonebilly! Have a blast and take lots of pics for us to live vicariously through. BBs San Juan hunt is still my favorite hunting story of all time, as far as ones I've read. I loved it and it inspired me to carry a camera and tell tales of my hunts.

Sounds like they’re gonna run together... One hunt:-)

That’s what I plan to tell the wife when I pull AZ after drawing WY this year;-)

I will, without a doubt, post up my hunt info.

I’m thinking the first 10 days in Utah, and going back the last 8 if need be, and then 10 days in the Black Hills mid-late Sept. I’m as excited about WY as I am the SJ.

I’m hoping for those in the know to weigh in on that plan, if possible.

That’s incredible and awesome! Between now and then there won’t be 5 minutes when September isn’t on your mind...as it should be. Enjoy

PM sent for San Juan

28-Feb-19
You're going to lose two days traveling. One going, one coming back. Personally, I'd be in San Juan at least a few days early and stay there till I filled the tag or the season closed, then go to WY.

Since you had the money to bug the SJ tag, I would hire an outfitter. Then, like others have said spend all your time there until you kill. Season dates are getting on the early side in Utah as they rotate start date the 3rd Saturday in August?? Peak rut will occur after Archery season has closed, but typically rutting activity increases through the final week of season. Try not to wait until the last days to kill as rifle hunters and their closest 20 friends start showing up the last week to help scout and bugle into every basin around. Can get frustrating as you are still bowhunting. Lastly, the unit is not what it once was, but still has some very good bulls.

For sure check with HDE as I'm pretty sure he bow hunts the Spike option on the SJ.

Definitely check in with c3 as he had the tag after BB did and he had a successful hunt on the SJ.

Have fun man and keep us posted!!

Good luck, Robb
