Does this buck make P and Y ?

This isn’t meant to be a bitching post for anti Pope and Young folks to jump on and start whining. But I did think it was a good learning piece if “ you want a buck that nets P and Y ( if you post nets are for fishing you’re an idiot)
All that being said, I measured this Iowa buck yesterday... Some guesses on what it nets out at? Reference 20 5/8 inside spread. Right G2 and left G 3 are 12” range Also the first two points near the base on the right antler were non typical. So there is no right G1
Based on your title I will guess it nets 123 5/8s
Without knowing your post title I would say 136 net.. Gross 145
114"....and I'm serious in addition to honoring Kelly Harris! Lots of deductions here.
Beautiful frame and certainly a mature deer. Judging by the hunters smile he is very pleased.
Gross and net will be 20+ inches apart. C
I say it makes P&Y. I would guess net in the low 130s" gross low 140s". One question that would make probably a 6''+ difference is that point on right consider a G1 or a abnormal point. One pic looks like a G1 in another it does not. If both are abnormal points are deductions and you don't get credit for left G1 and might not make it.
Great buck but no Pope and Young. Problem is that because he is a typical 5 by three he gets no net credit for brow tines or g - 4
I'm not going to venture a guess, but that's a great deer...and a not-so-great deer if scoring matters.
Right at 125. Could go either way.
Stud buck, guessing because of the nature of the thread it doesn't net 125. I was just showing someone today some of the racks off deer I've killed and their scores to underline the fact that who cares about scores. If you hunt for fun and enjoy yourself you can never lose.
Since we cant bitch about nets and all that. I'll bitch about how I hate these guess the score threads cause I suck at it and I forget to come back and find out.
Huge frame but it wont net p and y. Missing eye guard and 6point frame right side
Couple guys were right there... 128 4/8 net and Charlie was spot on with the 20” deduction... pretty amazing frame it had!!
He's got what it takes to make it, but the G2 and G3 on the left side are in the wrong order. ;-)
Doesn't matter what the book say, it is a very nice buck and your field smile is a 10 and that is what count. :()
Did the scorer score the point on right base a G1 or abnormal?
Take your kids hunting. My kid is 40 years old, and we really like hunting together, bow and gun.
Nets are for food service employees?.
Nice deer but won`t "score" for crap....that`s why book score doesn`t mean a whole lot to me.
I agree with swamppokie. Missing G1 and 6 point frame, and the differences from the left to the right will cause to many deducts. Great buck I wouldn't pass though!
Yes pretty cool buck very few would pass... it scored as a 3 x 3 So basically a 128 buck with two tines...
Beautiful buck.....congrats!
Just misses... err, by 4/8.
I won’t venture a guess, but I’d score him as a “shooter” in about a heartbeat. Never have had any of mine officially scored. Congrats to the hunter on an awesome buck.
Where did you take the right side H1 measurement?
115 to 120 range great main beams.
The official P&Y score will not reflect how nice that buck actually is. P&Y scoring values symmetry and punishes a 3x5 rack.
Looks like a great buck to me! Score—whatever. It’s a trophy.
Agree that net scoring is lame. Could care less about symmetry. Just About total bone to me. That’s why I never submit to P&Y although I support the organization
Good post Mark - love this stuff! I am not a P&Y basher, if I get a buck that makes buck I will enter it, but it's never my criteria for letting an arrow fly. I just want a buck that is near the top of the maturity age class for area I am hunting with enough bone to get my heart pumping, one that is mount-worthy, and DELICIOUS. Thanks again for scoring my 2018 NJ buck!
So proud of my son, that's him holding that buck, I don't care what he scores, I have yet to get that big of one and I'm 86 years old !
Keep after it, NYbob. You’re due!!
That’s beyond impressive that you’re still at it at 86! Hats off to you!
Its a very nice mature deer, no matter the score. I have one that grosses 163"s he barely makes P&Y as a typical and also just makes it as a non-typical but he is 5.5 years old and was a mature dominate buck. That is what matters, at least to me. My best trophy as far as I am concerned is a doe I killed 25 years ago, she dressed 186#s and was verified at 11.5 years old. Shawn
Good conversation piece nice buck just the same.
