Age and Score this IL buck WITH RESULTS
Whitetail Deer

If i'm fortunate enough to harvest a buck every year i always enjoy getting the official scoring and cementum aging results back in order to share with bowsite. This was a buck that i had several years of history with and although i hunted him all fall in 2017 i never saw him (but he was on camera). I was fortunate to harvest him during an all day sit on 11/6/18 in what i felt was his core area....i received the cementum aging results yesterday and had the buck officially scored last month. Some of you may enjoy these; some may not but for me it's more about the age. Feel free to post up guesses if you wish and i will update with results in the next 24-48 hours. This is a buck i name "Muley Jr." because of his split G2s and because we had a similar buck several years ago on the farm that i had originally named "Muley".
I hope to post a similar thread in the next week of my second Illinois buck once i receive the cementum aging results back.
145 gross with about 12 inches of abnormal points...however you want to add or subtract them. Looks like he has a split brow in the one pic but can't make it out in the others. Guys in the QDMA book wood just say 5 1/2 plus so I will guess 6 1/2. I'm probably low on both guesses. Beautiful buck and congrats.
156.5 gross and 7.5
Congrats on a beautie!!!
Great buck, Chris. Congrats!
I’d guess approximately 163” of typical score, with 15” of non typical score. 178” gross total. Looks to me from his previous sheds, he has regressed a little bit. I’d guess 7.5yrs old.
Gross 174 Net 167 NT probably high 150s if typical 5.5 years old
162 Net, as a 7.5 year old.
I'm going with 161 3/8 net non typical and 6.5 old
What a great deer! Congrats on a great management program.
15 inches of abnormal will determine typical or non-typical. He’s right near it! Glad you got him aged and officially measured! C
144" net typical or 160" net non-typical. Awesome deer, but frame symmetry hurts the score. 6.5.
Low 160s and fully mature
You lost me when you put a name on that deer.
Upper 150s frame with 20+ trash. I wouldn't be surprised 8.5 to 9.5 based on what looks like a decline in size from his sheds.
Congrats on a great buck! 173 Gross- 7.5 age
Shaft took my guess, so I'll go with 162.5/ 7.5 YO
Gross low 170"s and who cares what else. I say 6.5 years old. Always hard to tell circumference so could be a bit one way or the other!! Great buck!! Shawn

RESULTS BELOW
Thanks for your input guys. I enjoy the score/age threads but to me they are meaningless without results so i think it's worthwhile to actually get the results, especially the age.
In my experience i find that about 70% of the time i am estimating a deer to be a year younger than they actually are. In the last decade i have submitted 10 bucks from our farm for aging; 3 of them i was correct on the age but the other 7 results showed the buck to be a year older than i had estimated.
I hunt 700 acres of private QDMA ground in central illinois so history with most harvested bucks goes back at least one year; in this case and in one other i had 4-5 years of history with a buck.
Based on his sheds last year he grossed approximately 168" with a moderate decrease in score of his right side in 2018 and a moderate increase in score of his left side in 2018. He would have broke 180" gross with his 2018 left side and 2017 right side.
I have both sides from his 2016 and 2017 rack; he had a significant jump from 16-17 (ages 5-6). I also ran across one side from 2014 while sifting through sheds this winter.
Gross score on this buck is 172 5/8 with 16" of non typical points
Cementum aging revealed this buck to be 7.5 years old (my guess was 6.5). Hope you enjoyed the guessing game; here is a picture of him in 2014 for reference.
2016 (5.5 years old), gross score of appx 148".
Congrats, what a great deer.
2017 (6.5 years old), appx 168" gross.
JTV you blew my 174 guess away.
Thanks for the pics and scores, Chris. I enjoy these types of threads. Congrats on a fine buck!
I guessed 174 and typical score in high 150s darn close
The sun was in my eyes :-(
I said low 170's and 6.5 I think more like bumpin I am normally a year younger as well. Great deer for sure! Shawn
Bet ya he nets less than 150 as a typical. Side to side difference and the 16"s of NT points get him below 150. Gross to me is all that matters!! Shawn
I think Deerplotter beat ya out, Forest. He was only off by 3/8”!
Great Buck, congrats. Funny how trail cam photos can be deceiving. The second one you posted makes him look a lot smaller than he actually was. Anyone notice this too?
Thanks for all the interest guys; i appreciate it. I dont have the score sheet in front of me but i believe his net was around 151" as a main frame ten.
tobywon: i agree with your comment and the same goes with harvest pics. No doubt we've all seen harvest bucks that look 150" that are actually 120", its all about context and the angle.
Gorgeous buck- Congrats man!
