The found ripped out tail feathers from the coyote.
My third and final 2019 spring California bird has a crazy epic story to it I’ll share now. After Gia killed her second bird a flock of two longbeards and four hens showed themselves 200 yards away and worked away from our setup. The Big gobblers were locked on the hens and in strut mode. With one hour of shoot time left, I decided to go indian sneak mode and see if I could stalk into the flock. My preferred way is to call birds in close to the decoys with no blind but a spot stalk with the bow in big open country can be a second best choice that is super challenging and fun when it works out. After 20 minutes of slowly crawling through the grass both on my stomach and then sliding in the last 30 yards on my back, I found myself only 25 yards from the two strutting toms. I had one small hump on the hill and grass giving me cover to inch closer. Looking down below the flock I saw brown movement but didn’t pay much attention to it. I thought maybe a deer. In one motion I slowly sat up and came to full draw with both toms strutting away from me. My movement was concealed by their fans and I was able to take a patient well placed shot. The arrow flew true and the big Gobbler only went 5 yards before laying down to expire. Without notice a coyote came out of the brush and tackled my turkey. The gobbler fought back with its last bit of life and it was an explosion of feathers. The coyote then sprinted down hill with my gobbler in its mouth and I gave chase. I then barked at the yote which caused him to drop my bird and run off. Due to the yote attack, my birds back and tail feathers got a little messed up you could say.. ok a lot ha! Gia and joe walked over from their perch down the ridge to laugh about what just happened. Gia found most of the ripped out tail feathers for me and my pictures :-)

Some great hunts and birds folks, congrats to you all!

Here's the video of my hunt from Tuesday, if you've got a few minutes to burn(click on settings and switch to HD...it's worth it).

I had been watching two toms and around 10 jakes strutting, gobbling, and following a few hens behind me. Had heard one gobble to my left about 15min earlier but I honestly thought one of the jakes had circled, it never answered my call, and I hadn't heard anything on the roost from that direction.

All of a sudden I look up and there's a tom in the deke's? I start screwing with the cameras and getting set to draw, all of a sudden two more tom's come in from the left and push the first away. I could tell they weren't going to stick around long, so I decided to shoot as the bigger of the two turned to leave. The bird didn't die in the field, but after 10min I walked over to the edge across from me and he was laying there with his buddy standing over him...I got lucky.
