Elk

'morning All,
I realize the Pauns isn't know for it's huge Bull elk but more so for it's huge Muley Bucks.
We have a couple of our Bowsite Family in the Ut. draw for the LE Bow Buck and a few in for the bow Bull .
I did a little get-a-way down there last week and will share some late winter intel of my trip.
I did a combo Tourist gig along with my Photo Scouting trip.
Thanks for taking the time to view.

I travelled back North towards Panguitch via 89.
Along the way I wanted to check out some camping options, with services, including Wi-Fi for those that do hunting~~working 3 week hunt.
These area's give acces via the private ground to a huge WMA (Wildlife Management Area)
There are quite a few 'Cabin' for rent and camping with power ect along this highway climbing via Red Canyon
Very Scenic to say the least.....

Off to the gym by 0500
Thanks
Good luck, Robb
Running the Bryce Canyon ultra is on my bucket list. Beautiful area!
Robb,
Did you see many deer or was there enough snow to move them to AZ?
A great vacation with the kids is doing Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the Grand Canyon. They're all in the same area and can be done in a week. Your kids will never forget them - they're all stunningly beautiful. It's a great spring break or thanksgiving vacation - don't go in summer.
Robb, Thanks still tryin for the lone pref NR archery deer tag with 22 or 23 points. The wife has been waiting 4 years to do Bryce Canyon with me. Hoping this is the year but not counting on it.
There is just one NR tag? I have 17 or 18 NR deer points. I am obviously wasting my time, where should I switch too? Bookcliffs or what?
+1 Iddy
SteveO~~ I hit the Park in the early AM to get some great sunrise/snowy HooDoo pix. So I didn't get thru hiking and photo's until 1000-ish. I did see some deer and elk while glassing but nothing like I most prolly would have seen early AM.
Ken ~~ sure thing man. I'm pulling for ya!
Yes, with only 1 non-ressy bow buck tag offered, everyone in the Application Pool is going for that 1 tag..... go for it Steve---------> & Mike.
Nick ~~ there was so much snow that only 25% of the park was availavble to see, they had the great big Oshkosh snowblower rigs clearing the main road just past the Inspiration Point turn off......if your coming out for some Pre-Race date training, bring your snowshoes!! haha
Good luck, Robb
Great sunrise opportunities with the fresh snow and Perfectly clear blue sky

Really good camping here, with water, toilets, laundry house ect. I had 2 'bars' on my iPhone out here.....
This is actually in the Kaiparowits General bow Buck unit, although it's a 1/2 mile to the Paungs Boundary.
I had a real good chit-chat with the Park Ranger and he doesn't even do the Paugns and more, he applies/draws this unit about every other year and gets some dandy Velvet muleys on the General Bow Buck tag.....
Plenty of Public Access dirt roads from Tropic down to Kodachrome Park.
Thanks Fella's--------->
I have answered the PM's and I hope todays additions help out.
I'll wrap it up with some This-n-That's in a pinch.
I got's ta go...……….haha
Good luck, Robb
Cool time of Year to see Bryce Canyon...we were out there last Spring.
That East side looks like Muley Heaven...
Sounds like a great trip, Thanks for sharing, Robb!
Where's the big Muley sheds?
My son drew the elk tag there by mistake in 2017, we had a great hunt, Beautiful place, he had the early rifle tag. Not many elk in that unit that's for sure, I think they manage it for something like 180 animals. Saw lots of muleys but nothing I would have put a tag on, but we weren't looking for muleys I guess. He got lucky and we got on a massive cool 5x5 on opening day thou! Great memories!
I break training Eats wise on all my trips with a Pizza, I do enough hiking to burn it off! This place was a local eatery and although a pinch pricey, Delicious!

You guys did Great CM!! Thanks for sharing your pix man.
No shed hunting until May 1st...…….
I agree, the East side of the unit sure had Muley buck written all over it.
The west side has so much~~Boo-Coo~~ private ground......
I did not drop down to the south end of the unit around Kanab.
Although, I prefer a stand alone cabin, nothing was available yet, so I stayed at Ruby's Inn, very nice after all.

A lil' more This-n-That.....
My critique is that the reason there are so many 'uge Muley Bucks in this unit are:
Limited Entry Unit
Bryce Canyon is so large is acreage size, with No Hunting of course, it's a safe haven for deer to grow and mature
The Alton CWMU (Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit) is also 'uge in acreage so with very limited Buck tags offered thru their hunting operation, deer get to mature.
I certainly am not a Mule deer biologist, that's for sure!!
Thanks again for taking the time to view and to comment if ya wanted to--------->

PS~~ next month is Wyo-Moose #23 as a couple of our Bowsite family applied there, 1 with top endish Moose Points......
Heluva place to lose a cow...
Great photos! Here's a buck from 2013 that grossed 206+ & netted just over 200. I know the velvet added some to the score so it wouldn't have been as much stripped. Buck was pretty narrow with only a 19 inch spread credit.
Damn nice Buck man!!
Reads like 3 Non-ressy bow Buck tags again this year.
1 for the Bonus Point pool and 2 for the regular draw pool
Good luck, Robb
