'morning All,

I was doing some spring cleaning for a Yard sale and I finally decided to finish up some antlers with elk hide.

I've had the plaques cut and ready for quite a few years, I just never did get around to finishing them up.

They turned out kinda nice after all.

Good luck, Robb

Any of you guys do something similar on your Whitetail or Blacktail bucks?

I think they do turn out better than a basic Euro type mounts.

Good luck, Robb

Looks real nice and my wife likes them like that better than skulls. She will even allow these type of mounts in the house... :^) Head mounts too, but Euro skulls not encouraged. That said, I have a bunch of them in waiting just like you did, and I hope they turn out this nice.

Those look really good! Nice and clean display. I just love skulls though, especially with heavy dark antlers of any kind.

Really turned out great Robb! You using chamois for the leather?

Gotta say your backdrop of dream trophies is not too bad either! Several very nice looking "trophy rack" pictures mixed in with the deer and elk;-)

Have quite a few that I have done like that and a couple of elk in the hopper to get finished up. Currently don't have any more room to hang racks or heads so most are boxed up. Working on finishing out an addition on the house that will have a lot of wall space for hanging critters (been a very long process).

Nice jobs bulelk1 and Treeline. I've done a few using felt but not leather. Like those leather ones.

Here's a couple of my first ones using felt. Will have get some leather. What do you guys use to build the base. I've used plaster of Paris but have an article by Remi Warren where he used spray foam insulation and upholstery foam. May try that. In case Jaq is reading if I get leather I'll have to hide it cuz my Brazillian girl friend cuts it up and makes whips!

I use plaster mixed with vermiculite. It is a lot easier to shape and sand down than straight plaster.

Chamois leather like you would use for your car works really well. It is easy to work with and stretches well. Second would be deer hide.

Elk hide is a bit thicker and harder to work with, but is tougher when braided into whips:-)

Very Nice! You guys put some work in to those!

Lookin good, Rob, Tavis, and Chuck! Nice workmanship!

Back in the early 80s, my buddy and I did a couple of whitetail racks with the plaster of Paris and a chamois cloth and put them on cedar discs. Turned out pretty good. They’re still hanging out in the shop. Lookin a bit rough nowadays, but still bring back good memories when I look at them.

Looks good!

I’ve never liked the looks of Euros, and prefer to cap and throw in the shed or a few on the wall.

I like the wood a bit on the dark side.

I'm okay with these being in my Garage as the don't blend well in my TR. 32 x 36 garage so I have plenty of wall space for 'em.

Good luck, Robb

They look great. That's they way I do my deer. I have a few with tanned deer hide with fur on that my taxi has done. Ill tan and do one myself one day with fur on.

Whocares, I use Water Putty. Seems to me to be lighter than Plaster of Paris. WindLaker

I thought I would bump this up after reading GG/Matts thread, I didn't want to overrun it with this option.

Plus, they do just fine out in the garage.

Good luck, Robb

They look nice, but I prefer the bleached skull type of mount.

I prefer antler plaques as well. My wife doesn’t like the whole skull thing either and she is in charge of house decor. ?? I did so many euro’s when I was running a taxi shop that I have nightmares about them!
