We loaded up the boys on Friday and headed over the hill to chase some birds
4 boys 2 adults 5 decoys 2 blinds.
Ridge has been practicing his calling.
Matt had the boys said up shooting mission craze bows for Matthews. The plan is to try to kill with the bow. But we had four tags. We have some birds close but we need them at 8-10 and standing still.
Great seeing the kids learning the ropes!
We end the night with the shotgun in Mason hands . Little Indian sneak and bird number one is down.
Little lesson in cleaning some Birds
We enjoyed some ribs and good conversation with the landowner . Day one is a success !
Up at 4:45 and to the blind . Lots of gobbles early . After a little double bull duffle . We had 3 jakes come by and Smith is on the board!
We eat waffles and sausage for breakfast and make a plan .
Me, mason and Ridge in one blind. Matt, smith and sawyer in another. Some gobbles and hen yelp behind but nothing playing. Soon the wolf pack is ready to eat again. These boys can eat. Lunch and a 4 wheeler ride and we are ready for the final push.
Weather is iffy for the afternoon hunt. The birds are around but nothing playing the game. We have 5 lone toms come By and not even a look!
We are calling it at 5. It’s raining on and off. Not great turkey weather and hopes are not high. But sometime it all changes fast.
Ridge is sleeping in my arms as the birds close fast. Smiling ear to ear
He makes a great shot after a few attempts at drawing. Oh how I have been there. Ridge was snoring the whole time. Bird goes 20 yards and the other 2 attack it. We have a great show.
Matt and the other boys come join us!
We pack up shop In the rain . Great weekend with even better people . Hunt
Please take the young guys . It takes more patience and luck . But the smiles and memories last a lifetime . Hunt
This is what it's all about! Thanks for sharing the hunts, and for passing it on brother!
That's what it is all about. Well done and thanks for sharing.
Great job Hunt and Matt! Congrats to all of you! Like you said it is memories that will last a lifetime.
Congratulations too all, thanks for taking us along. Forrest
Congrats to all. Thanks for posting!
I was gonna say that you missed a great time at P&Y, but looks like you guys had an WAY better time! What a tremendous experience for both the dads and the boys. Way to go!!!
Fantastic, congratulations and thanks for posting.
Thanks for showing us the best parts of being “Dad”!
Awesome, making memories. Congrats
Well done Hunt and Matt that’s what it’s all about! You guys walk the walk!
This thread reminds me of some of the best decisions that I ever made involving my two sons. When they were that age, I took them bowhunting and I still do. They are now 50 and 52 years old and the memories and bonds that we share are like no other. Congrats to you Hunt Man and I know that you will reap the benefits that I have. Good hunting to you..........Bob
Now that's some great stuff there! Awesome job men!
ElkNut/Paul
Pack of wolves is right buddy! Those boys are killers!
Great post Hunt, you tell it well.
Was a fun weekend. So proud of those young men, they all did great.
Still got Ridge, Sawyer and Gunner coming up in the next few years. Only gets better. Enjoy it boys!!
Now that's a Boys Weekend!Congratulations to you all!
Also, shout out to Beav....thanks for the tip on the bow poundage/broadhead. I think it worked ok:) That was Mason's first bow kill so it was extra special. They both killed the first one on this trip with shotgun cause we just weren't having much luck getting birds in close enough. Once the monkey was off our back they decided to leave the gun in the truck which was cool to see them make the decision on their own. They coulda killed 2 more quicker and easier had they brought it back in the blind after lunch but they wanted to try with their bows. Sure glad they did cause in my experience....that first arrow in an animal can be life changing.
What a great experience and story, Hunt! You'll all remember it for the rest of your lives!
Way to go you guys! That farm is a special place!
There isn’t a trophy out there that tops what your doing with your boys. The logistics with young kids can be frustrating in the moment if you let them. but the memories are the most valuable thing you can have.
Great weekend Hunt! Making outdoor memories with the youngsters...doesn't get any better that that! Congrats on the birds guys!
Awesome thread and memories. Well done!
Very well done man, great to see you all out having a blast together!

Talk about having your priorities straight, you guys are doing it right! Congrats to everyone!!
That pic of Ridge asleep on your lap is priceless. Great thread and thanks for sharing.
Gotta admit that is pretty cool right there ! Well dfone guys.
Absolutely awesome!!! Keep it up guys!
AWESOME thread!!!
Great leadership right there HUNT!!!
Congrats!!!
Mark
That's fantastic HUNT. My youngest son and I had a good start in MT as well, but my boys are both dang near men now.
Enjoy as much time with them as you can. I spent tons of time with my oldest hunting turkeys, and I'm trying to do the same with my youngest. Life moves on though and my oldest doesn't have as much time as when I controlled his schedule, so I do a lot of reminiscing. Hopefully he'll be able to come back around in years to come.
You'll never regret the time you spend with them.
Awesome Hunt, way to go...
Fantastic and congrats!! Thanks for taking us along on the trip!!
A lot of memories made in there
Nicely done all around. Paul
Great story. Thanks for sharing.....
Ditto what has already been said. That little guy in the first "success" pic - fist clenched, mouth open and facial expression - OMG, that is just great.
Thanks for posting, Bob
Inspirational to all parents! Way to get it done!!!
Thanks gentleman !! Good luck this spring!!! Hunt
Heck yeah!!! Awesome job getting the young guys out. Turkey hunting is made for youths IMHO.
Great times. My son turns 26 this year.......we started hunting trips together when he was about 6 or 7. When he was in college we used to meet at our hunting property many weekends during the fall and spring seasons. Even though he lives 1000 miles away now we find time for at least one several day hunt every year. It is very rewarding to find that those memories are some of his best and that he still likes to spend time together that way. I'm a lucky man...
Hunt!!!! Awesome thread and pics. Thanks for taking us along. Boys will have learned a ton, good on yah. Strong, strong leadership.
I've been purposely saving this thread for when I had the time to really take it in because I knew it would be special. I was not disappointed! This is so awesome Hunt! I can say unquestionably that my daughter and I have such a strong relationship because of all the time we spend together in a turkey blind. I can think of no better way to bond with your kids than chasing turkeys! It's life changing for them and for you! Great job boys! I'm already looking forward to the next one, and looking forward to FINALLY getting my own boy in the blind this spring! Congrats!
Good stuff fellas. Great seeing those kids getting after it. Love that!
Good stuff Hunt!!! Always enjoy your threads especially the spring kids buddy! Well done!
That pic with the little guy walking hand-in-hand is a real heart tugger for me. I'm thinking that some day he may be taking you guys hunting when your old and gray. Great job!......Bob
Matt and Hunter are the epitome of what Don Jr. was talking about at P&Y. Starting them early, making sacrifices, and passing it on. Well done, fellas! Loved it!
Good stuff Hunt! Way to go!
Fantastic! Doesn’t get much better than that
Awesome fellows...hoping to get Lance on a bird in Mt this weekend...
Nicely done Hunt and company. Love the write up and photos as always.
Making memories, it doesn't get any better.
Very kool indeed!
