I have no issues sharing the mountain with natural predators; I actually like knowing they’re around out there. But a cat will eat about a deer a week. 1000 cats = 52,000 deer/year.
Deer/Elk populations need to be managed at levels that the range can support/sustain, and Big Cat (and Wolf and Bear) populations need to be managed at levels that the herds can survive.
Doesn’t make for easy hunting, but everybody wins who is willing to bust their butt. Sounds fair enough to me!
