Was looking through my files and found this pic from about 11-12 years ago. Never really looked at it that close but looks like he was a dandy. Big ole pot belly on him. This is on the Mississippi River along Camp Ripley in MN. They come down to the river a lot in summer and gorge themselves on wild celery in the river.

12yards, nice pic. My Dad was born and raised in the Fort Ripley area, about the time I graduated he and Mom moved back there and lived along the Mississippi in the area of Fort Ripley. We used to see a couple pie-balds just about every year. The deer would swim the river just as readily as they would cross a road. We took a lot of deer off his farm.

Inshart, it is gorgeous up there along the river. You were blessed to have spent time up there. I suppose you caught a smallmouth or two and a big muskie.

Smallies, walleyes, and northerns, 1 small muskie by accident.
We used to watch the jets practice in camp. They had auto pilot and the jets would follow the contour of the ground and all the sudden they would turn almost straight up and we would hear the big booms and then see the puffs of smoke from where their bombs would explode. We also watched the big planes (C-130's I believe?) drop jeeps and all kinds of equipment with giant parachutes.
My Dad found a live shell in his field once - about the size a coffee can and couple feet long. Called over to camp and within a few minutes a bunch of military showed up and removed it post-haste.
