Just wanted to share some of the results from a hunt this month with one of the sponsors of Bowsite, Limcroma Safaris of South Africa. For anyone that is considering a hunt in South Africa, I would highly recommend there services for a quality world class adventure. Very happy to report that one well placed shot to the heart resulted in a short 60 yard trail and a very LOUD death bellow/moan. Thanks Limcroma !

Nicely done.........but it looks like you're holding a crossbow, not a bow. Bolt =/= arrow. If I'm wrong I apologize. If I'm right, well, nicely done anyway.

Equipment details: As I enter my 70th year of life I find myself in need of more MOJO to make a hunt like this go down. Two years ago I did a hunt with a regular compound at Limcroma and came away with 7 great plains game animals. At the completion of that hunt my P.H. Henno urged me to return for a Cape Buffalo hunt but it would require a different weapon. After a complete shoulder rebuild I am not able to pull the kind of weights required to hunt Cape Buffalo with a standard compound. When you take into consideration that half of all arrow shot Buff hunts end with a bullet it should be easy to understand why I did this hunt with a crossbow. I used a Bowtech 380 Stryker that is 8 years old that my wife hunts with in conjunction with her disability permit she holds here in Arizona. After much research I built a load that came in at 946 grains with an FOC of 27% and had it flying at 242 fps. I used a shaft inside another shaft design with multiple threaded insert weights that were bonded together with Locktite. I then decided to go with a Bishop Archery single bevel scientific method broadhead that weighed in at 250 grains. After the hunt Henno told me I brought the right gear for the task at hand. Needless to say I was pleased with the results.

Congratulations Bowbender77! I am very pleased and excited for you that you got your buffalo! He is amazing! Big battle-worn bosses and great mass through the curls. Just the way I like 'em...

Don’t apologize for using a crossbow. Shooting one with a rifle is a sporting endeavor. Crossbow effective range means you still had to get in tight.

Firstly... I hope I’m still hunting Africa when I’m 70, well done man!
Secondly, great animals and great hunting. There is no place like Africa and I am lucky to have hunted there now 3 times (Namibia) and am heading back again in 2020. I have a hunger to hunt bushbuck one day myself and also buff, but I’m a stickbow guy so that’ll take some homework.
Lastly, who cares what weapon you hunted with...

Great job. I am 77 years old and have switched to a crossbow. I use a Ravin and can shoot through any deer easily and then have to hunt for the bolt.
