Steve K. from New Mexico dropped this huge plus 40” hard bossed bull this evening just as light was fading. The old warrior didn’t make it ten steps till he fell over from one well placed arrow topped with an Iron Will buff head. Great job Steve. Buffalo #12 for the season in the salt!

The first picture, #12, looks very old. Amazing picture of an amazing bull. Like you said, an old warrior. How old do you think he was?

It takes about 7 years for a buff to fully mature and from that point he will generally peak from 8-12 years old before beginning to decline. Most buff don’t make it past 15 years in a natural environment but the best trophies are those that have lived this long with worn down horns and nasty dispositions. We don’t chase inches and only hunt buffalo that are fully mature. That being said buff #12 was a great buffalo. Given his horn condition I’d put him at a solid 10 years old.
