My bird... Not a bow kill but still a ton of fun.
So 2019 is looking to be one of the most blessed years of my life. Hunting wise it is off to slow start. Despite my lack of time in the field, I did manage to take a first time hunter out on a successful turkey hunt. It was with shot gun but he spent one weekend with me and managed to take a great mountain bird. So I will not go into to great detail, but this is a born and raised Boulderite. He even graduated from CU Bolder. Needless to say I feel I have some great mojo from this accomplishment.

Not only did we score a bird for him, but on the last weekend I snagged a bird as well. Again not a great start but at least I got a little time out in the field...

After turkey hunting settled out it was the wait for licenses. I had 2 really good tags that I should draw.

Colorado Unit 2 archery Elk and Colorado Unit 22 4th Season Deer...

Well as the odds showed I drew both... One took 22 points and the other took 15...

I also learned that we are relocating to WY so it was amazing timing to dump my resident points...

Lastly my wife allowed me to get a new bow... Last weekend for fathers day a new bow found its way home... Amazing blessings...

Now I ahve to get to work. I need to loose about 80 pounds, get into shape, practice, practice, practice...

Scout and set trail cameras...

Hope you all come along for the ride!!!

Well 11pm and I finally am getting in some scouting. We will head out early in morning and be in unit by lunch.

Excited as I finally have time to scout and get my hunt under way...

I will take and share pics as I go...

Down loaded all my GPS for potential water holes etc...

Extra gas cans. You don't want to drive back to maybel every time to get more gas.

Maybe a Bowsite name change as well? Exciting times.

So the day was mixed bag... we made it late into the unit. Arriving just after 2:00 pm. We glassed and hiked several spots.

Ended up seeing 22 cows in 5 different groups and only one 4 point bull.

Saw lots of stupid horses.

For years I sprayed weeds in the county and I am saddened and almost pissed to see how horrible the ranges has become in the horse area. It was never great, but it is Insane how poorly the range has digressed in the horse areas. Outside the horse areas the grass looked amazing this time of year.

Saw a few antelope and one doe and fawn. Cover about 100 miles in the unit today. Have a good loop planned for tomorrow. But mid day we are likely heading to town for ice and fuel.

Fuel not a huge deal I get around 500 miles a tank..

So as the second day of scouting wraps up. We have.seen 117 cow/calves. 18 bulls, no shooters at all...

We hiked about 5 miles mid day. It was hot, 97 when we got back to truck. Our ice is running out pretty fast and we have friends in Craig, so we ran into town for dinner and recoup.

Well day 3 under our belts. New area and it was good. We are now at 172 Cow/Calves and 45 bulls.

We also did some sight seeing. Hot up the coke ovens that were built in 1892 and also pictographs from the Fremont Indians.

Also hit gays of Ladore and took a bath in the green river...
