As some of you know, last week lightning struck and I drew a CA sheep tag.

Starting on July 1, CA's 'phase in' of non-lead only ammo is over and Only Non-Lead ammo is now legal for hunting in CA.

As a result, I can't use the Nosler lead 130 gr. Accubond Norma loads I've been using, so I had to find non-lead ammo.

Problem!

Although several ammo dealers listed my ammo online, every one of them said it was out-of-stock.

On Monday, I asked one of those dealers, Double Tap Ammo in Cedar City, UT, when they might have it.

Lo and behold, they called me and said they had all of the components in stock and would load four boxes for me and send it right out!

It just arrived!

Now THAT's awesome customer service!!!

And here I though New Jersey was a messed up place to live. All the things to worry about and they ban lead bullets.

Good luck on your hunt!!

An arrow would be "non-lead" ammo:-). Just sayin.

Hunt with your bow and you can use steel broadheads.

This time of year the rams will all be at 12,000+ feet.

Up there everything is wide open and there is no cover.

Not all that conducive for spot-n-stalk bowhunting.

Glad it worked out for you Kyle.

Non-lead ammo doesn't solve anything. Hope CA figures that out.

I've taken a 165" Whitetail, a 134" Shiraz, a 366" elk and a 160" Dalls with my bow, plus several other elk and deer, two bears and three antelope, if that's OK with you guys.

I'm 70, this is a once-in-a-lifetime tag and it's my tag, not yours.

That would be a better handle for the OP. Who the heck starts a rifle ammo thread on BOWSITE?

Think he should go to accurate reloading and would be a better fit.

Ohio, 130 gr no lead is likely a Barnes TTSX in .270. Could be .308 but I’d go heavier in that diameter of that’s what it was, like 168. At least if I had to shoot a no lead round that’s the one I’d have. Then again I’m just a dumb bow hunter who prefers his no lead to be in the 500 gr range for most everything.

Good luck to you. But first and foremost, keep your head together - seems you've gone off the rails a tad, and this is at a relatively low elevation. At 12,000+ ft. the air will be thin, and you need all the oxygen you can get.

Enjoy your hunt, be safe up there, and try to regain your wits beforehand.

I killed two mule deer bucks with my bow in the Whites. When I lived in the Owens valley I shot one in its bed at 20 yds It was open country but I was still able to slip in on them Its open country but its not a big flat top. With all the 100 mile runs you have did i'm sure your still in some kind of shape. Good luck on your hunt. when I hunt the Bighorns in Wyoming My camp is at 10,000 Feet so I go a week early and just set around a few days to get use to the air.

I've had great customer service from Barnes as well. Last year I was reloading 165gr TTSX bullets for my 30-06. I found a couple defective bullets in a box. They had a new box on my door the next DAY! Another example of great customer service. My daughter killed her first buck and bull with bullets from that replacement box. I even posted it on Bowsite!*

It`s appropriate Trial if failure is your plan. "Once in a Lifetime tag soup" goes down a lot rougher than a resident deer tag.....but hey....you gave it a shot champ....lol

Correct me if I wrong....isn`t it "a sheep tag".....didn`t see the archery only sheep tag part.

The OP is an adult hunter that has the choice to hunt the way HE see fit. I was thinking maybe Pat was eliminating the radical bowsiters....guess not.

I don't think anyone is saying the OP doesn't have the right or can't hunt the tag anyway he wants. It's HIS tag.

The suggestion is, he has his venues mixed up. Kinda like you don't go on a serious, offroad, 4X4 site and start on about the great customer service from Ferrari. Not relevant and expect to be told so.

Like bringing your Prius to a Coal Rollers gathering.

Pat should change the name to "Bowsite Cult".

The OP is a KNOWN bowhunter who is simply passing on a positive experience with a business. This is information a total sportsman might be interested in....that`s all.

Don`t panic cult members....the bow and arrow shrine is still intact and you can visit the Alter at your earliest convienence....lmao

21-Jun-19
I will never be in a position to go on a sheep hunt, physically or financially. (Could afford it, but can't justify that kind of money on a hunt.)

I loved reading about O'Connor's exploits, and why I owned a .270. I have no problem with a guy choosing a firearm, though I only bowhunt. In fact, reading about Bowsite regulars whether that be their kid getting their first deer or turkey with a firearm is one of the funner types of threads IMO.

Knowing Kyle through this site makes me care less what he hunts with, I want to hear about it. But if the facts end up being what is alleged so far, I will pass reading about it.

This was simply a pot stirring thread...That’s all!
