A swing-and-a-miss for unit 8. I didn't expect to draw since I had 0 points. It took two points last year going in to draw.

Good luck all for the upcoming season.

Thanks for the link Bill

I knew going in my % with 0 points was slim to none but being able to use the bow on the late hunt was great motivation to give it a go.....

Good luck, Robb

Getting a little harder every year for the big three zones. Glad I cashed in on 5 this year. Planing on another hunt in 2025, give me 4 years to buy points to re draw the tag again.

24-Jun-19
Struck out with 3 points in zone 4. I also struck out on my backup plan. I need a better plan!

“Getting a little harder every year for the big three zones.“

Which are the “big three”? How long have they been the “big three” and what are the criteria to achieve “big three” status?

Over 60 percent of the NR boa tag quota historicity comes from three zones, so 30 percent of the zones are getting 60 % of the Archery of the tags. Over the last four years those four zones have seen significant point creep. Compare 2015 Archery drawing stats to 2019 linked above.

Drew zone 6!

I'm really curious when does everyone plan on going?

I'm planning to dedicate at least 2 weeks to get it done (more if need be as I have the PTO to burn).... but I'm unsure of what dates. I've talked to some experienced residents and hunters in general that have said targeting the 2nd week up to thanksgiving is the best time frame to connect with the most mature bucks?

From: Shawn
25-Jun-19
Saddle, I would agree that the best dates may be from Nov 14th to Thanksgiving could be the best time as anytime from around the 4th or 5th til than the bucks can be locked down with does. Most folks like the first two weeks. I myself wish I could split the trip but it is a 20 hr drive where I would hunt. I would hunt from Oct 28th to Nov. 5th or so and than from the 14th for 6 or 7 days. I am going next year and covering all my bases and hunting from Oct. 25th to Thanksgiving. Shawn

Personally, I’ve had more success, on average, during the first 2 weeks of November than the last 2 weeks. Warm weather can have a big influence on daytime movement.

Last week in October and Thanksgiving weekend can be good but there's no time I'd rather be in a treestand in Iowa than the first 2 weeks of November.

From: MQQSE
26-Jun-19
The first two weeks of November is the time to be out for sure. It feels like prison to me if I am not in a tree during those days.

From: WoodMoose
26-Jun-19
yeap, first two weeks for me,,,but surprising things can happen around Thanksgiving as well

next year I should be out there again

From: Boatman71

I think the best time here is from Halloween on. Halloween seems to be the "event" opener. The bucks are roaming hard until they find a hot doe.

From: gobbler
26-Jun-19
I have my trip planned from Oct. 30th till Nov. 10th. Last time I hunted Nov 6th to 16th. Saw a couple big ones and ended up killing a decent 20 inch 9 pt. But most bucks were locked down with does. I’m hoping to hunt more of the pre rut this year before they lock down with does .

I'm a transplant from Illinois (20+ years) Good Luck to all that drew a tag. I know many residents that have never taken a P&Y Buck so there are many variables. Any, good luck. I like Nov 2nd thru the 10th (If I worked-I'm retired) in my area (N.E.) but I hit it hard starting last week of Oct. till gun season. This guy stayed "just" out of range.
