I got lucky & drew a Tule elk tag here in California. Hunting elk in 90 degree heat is a bit different but after a not so perfect 1st arrow & much better 2nd shot I had my 1st Tule elk.
Very nice. Some looking dry country for CA.
Congrats, that's a sweet looking Tule! Thank God I don't have to hunt in country that looks like that, though! ;-)
Thanks guys. I live on the other end of California where the Redwoods meet the Pacific 600 miles to the North. 100 degrees in Owens Valley hunting elk & raining at my house this weekend.
Congrats! First archery elk of the year that I know of.
wow that is a beautiful bull Congrats. I miss that terrain and California.
Great bull, congratulations.
Great bull, Pete you mite miss the terrain but I don’t see how anyone can miss California.
Damn Nice
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Congrats Drnaln,great bull.
Congrats on a great bull!
Way to get the party started.
Congrats.
Beautiful Tule Bull...great way to start this thread!
Congrats!
I remember driving up hwy 395 as a kid and having my head on a swivel looking for elk. Usually could see a few between Lone Pine and Bishop.
Well Shakey I was stationed at 29 palms mid 90s. Plenty of dove and quail, the deer and turkey hunting was fun. Hog hunting was dirt cheap, chance to hunt elk and desert bighorn as a resident.....much more game than CT. Politics suck everywhere
And so it begins...
A cracking bull to open the new season
Congrats huntinelk! Nice bull!
Congrats, way to get it done!!! Beautiful bull
Always a good day when the elk meat pole is up and running! I somehow missed the first post. Great Tule!
Very nice Gene, congrats.
Congrats you two, way to kick start the season off, well done!

Great bull Gene...way to go!
Awesome! I miss the thick rain forests of the PNW, Great Bulls!
Congrats to all so far.

Congratulations everyone, great to see some success.
Awesome WHOCARES!
And there are some that say bigger bulls wont come in to cow calls :)
Manitoba Sept 2, 12 yards, solo and my first Elk ever.
Congrats to all and thanks to all who have contributed to vast Elk threads on here. The knowledge you pass on is priceless.
Well we made it on the meat pole again! We called in 7 bulls this weekend and saw 2 fighting from 50 yards away. My brother was shooter number 1 and I called in this bull and he gave a quarter away at 28 yards and my brother made a great shot. Unfortunately the bull fell next to a bee hive stump, we both got stung but he is allergic and had to pound benedryl. It was 78 degrees so we got it off the mountain quick! My turn now!!
Nice bull Carcus! Those Exodus broadheads are deadly!
Dang well-strung that's some bad luck right there.
Congrats to all you elk slayers so far.
"Nice bull Carcus! Those Exodus broadheads are deadly" Thanks, the exodus are crazy deadly bh's, but not a bh for lower poundage bows on the big critters, i shoot 70 pounds and a fast bow and im not getting passthroughs on elk and moose, im hoping they make a more swept blade version in the future. That said they are my favorite fixed bh
Carcus, could it be an arrow weight issue?

Got the social hunt out of the way, bigger cow than I wanted but a good start. Packed out 4 elk in 4 days, no real time for whiskey.
Exodus bus have passed through every bull I’ve shot them with. Hope to pass one through a bull next weekend!
Congrats to successful hunters!
Great bulls guys, congratulations!
Keep the pictures coming!
Dang Lamb. Did you set him up for more target practice? 4 shots, there has to be a good story there!
1 shot that's lung he was blowing out. 10 yds out of tree stand
Beautiful animals. Way to get it done guys.
Wyoming, 09/03, 0840 am, first morning of my hunt. Bugled him in to 10 yards. Wilderness, solo backpack hunt. Weather sure was warm, but Bulls had cows and were bugling.
I need to start hunting Wyoming. Big bulls, nobody around, lots of bugling action.
wow hope you have A Strong back .beautiful bull
"Carcus, could it be an arrow weight issue" 485 grains
WHOCARES, nice bull. Were you hunting the south side of your unit?
Nice to see everyone’s success, great job. I hoe some of this rubs off on me??
Congrats to all and awesome bull Dark Timber! Keep posting the success...
Dad...basically. an otc unit..
Great animals everyone I too hope some rub on me. Leaving on the 17th.
I know of another nice bull that went down today in Colorado and I can barely get through the day at work! Congrats all!
Midwest, I heard a similar rumor! ;). I-70 got 4” of hail and it got shut down. My buddy can’t make it up today. He’s pissed!
Here’s mine from today. Midwest and Ucsdryder and others got the inreach text this morning. :)
Nice bull cnelk...congrats

Nice going guys. I might as well add my bull to the meat pole. Second morning in Colorado.
What a picture Paul...… I know there are pictures out there like that with whitetails, but I really doubt there is anyone who has ever got a trail cam pic like that of a bow shot elk!
Congrats to all. Hopefully I can add one this week.
Congrats all! Paul, that pic is phenomenal!
New Mexico...Ambush 17 yd. shot with 50#/54" Rivers Edge Arroyo Recurve; Magnus 125 gr. 4 blade stingers frontloadedwith 150 gr. brass inserts; STAR Method release.. . A tough bull..Penetration almost up to feathers....hit him in the boiler room, but he went 200 yds.
That was from a video, here's perhaps a better pic...
Southern Alberta. 27 yard shot. Hoyt Carbon Defiant. Victory TKO arrow. Rage trypan= good eats
Nice bull! How did those Trypans work for you? What poundage do you shoot? I will probably use Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts for elk as I only shoot 50lb out of my Rx-1, but thinking of using Trypans for deer. Good luck with the rest of your fall hunts! Jim from Wis.
Jim, I used the Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts, ie, 125 gr two years ago for elk. I hit a good bull behind the heart but 16 inch back in the intestines. If I had to do that again, I would use the normal straight blades. I do believe they might penetrate better and cut better without the serrations. Just my gut feelings. Shooting a 55# recurve bow at that time. On deer, I would still use the buzzcuts. Paul
NM bull, taken at 8AM on the 7th the last day of my hunt. Shot at 21 yards with my Bowtech and Exodus broadheads. Full pass through and short blood trail. GOOD EATS!
Happy Camper!!!

Filled my Wyoming tag on Monday Sept 2nd. Bulls were very receptive to cow calls, many bugling bulls. Temps were very warm. Shot was 20 yds with Mathews Vertix, Easton Axis 5mm, Thunderhead Nitro 100. My 4th time elk hunting out West, second time I filled my tag. 6X7 On Thursday my 17 yr old son punched his ticket on a very respectable Wyoming 6x6, is first!!!!
Got this beautiful bull on Labor Day in Southwest CO.
Congrats guys! Mine will score around 400...lbs. ;-)
Filled my Reduced Price Cow/Calf tag on Friday. 3rd straight year I've filled my tag on the 6th. Now I just want to help my son fill his tag with a nice bull in a couple weeks. I still have my general permit, but not sure if I want to haul another one of these beast out of the woods.
Congratulations everyone... some great looking bulls... & cows.
Looking good guys! Way to geter done!
ElkNut/Paul
Beautiful Elk,beautiful country, beautiful pictures...I am so envious of you fellas.

My regular partner started early this year because he drew a hard to get tag. Actually just drove over from Jackson to get an initial glimpse of the unit and spotted this bull. 10 minute hunt.

Looks like I’ll have a dedicated packer this year. Congrats Will. Married last Saturday... punch his tag this past Sunday. Yes the bride helped pack it out. She’s a keeper!
And they say, Wyoming elk and hard to kill. :) :) :). That just proves that are not. :) Just kidding, Nicely done.
Congrats to all on their success so far this year. Off to a great start!
Some damn nice Elk starting to hit the ground in these photos! Congrats to all
Wow!!! Some great bulls being taken. Congrats to all!
28 yard shot, the lady got to watch the whole things go down and it made the hunt! shes also quite the pack mule.
Great bulls guys, congrats! I got this one a few days ago, Colorado OTC, five miles back. Complete pass throughs at 52 & 67 yards with the Iron Will s125 heads.

Great Bull, Robb!
Congrats to all the successful bowhunters!
NM bull I took on Tuesday the 10th. I used a 150 grain Cutthroat broadhead with a total arrow weight around 500 grains.
Hey Robb.....did KHunter help you with that pic? WOWSA
Way to go so far guys! Love all the pics, especially the one with the backstrap! Keep it coming!
Robb wow, that's an awesome bull. what do you think he scores? that 4th on the left is awesome
Heartiest congratulations to all those who have been successful so far this season: good luck and good hunting to those who are still in elk country
Bullelk1 that picture does not look real! do have any others?
Paul, same story with me about the Stinger serrated/buzzcut. Got better penetration with the regular straight edges and they sharpen great with the Rada sharpener. I used the 125 gr. 4 blade out of my 50# recurve and got penetration almost up to the feathers behind the shoulder crease. I also used 150 gr. brass inserts (eBay) and 400 spine shafts; total arrow wt. close to 520 grs.
Dang, I haven't heard from Khunter in a while, I hope he is well.
I was thinking I might get on this early AM and have TODDY asking if it was LE 3-Corners bull----->
The Text said LE South Cache bull.
Good luck, Robb
A 800lb bull should have that wheeler squatting? Must be the 3/4 ton model! Awesome bulls guys!
Been waiting a long time to post on this thread! New Mexico, 9/11 bull.
Very nice Jason...Congrats
9/10 evening hunt. Lots of bulls and cow elk all around us.

Finally got to pack out an elk!
Wow, great elk pics and I bet the stories are even better. I'll add mine from Wyoming 9/10 pm hunt. Very grateful to be able to hunt there. Congrats to all and those yet to hunt.
Some great bulls on here! Congrats to all of you!!
Last call set of last day ... Raghorn comes in and I stop him at 40 ... apparently behind a small nest of twigs. That deflected my shot. Tough end to a tough hunt. To have a chance at a “game-winning field goal with 0:01 on the clock and miss wide-left” is a bitter pill. But sure enjoyed my time with Cnelk, who was good enough to have his bull hanging in the trees at camp before I got there.
Great pic and story.......really tells it all and I know the feeling having killed a tree instead of an elk myself earlier this year... Gonna chase mulies this afternoon/evening......this time next week plan to be on the elk again.
With the new pressure cookers, they're not half bad! ;-) Great hunt DT!
Dudes! Some awesome pics, kills and stories. Keep them coming!
Yeah seriously! Awesome pics and stories. I’m rutting hard myself. Headed out Wednesday for the rest of the season and hope to post here myself. Especially if it’s for my son! Keep it up!
Friday the 13th bull for me in Wyoming. Darn critters always find the nastiest places to die.
I love years I'm on here twice. My Friday the 13th bull. Solo Colorado public land.

Had a great friend with me too, EmbryOklahoma. Thanks again brother.
Lots of elk meat hitting the ground!
Quite a few solid bulls!
Congratulations men! Solid work all around!
Keep knocking them down!
Oregon Mt Emily bull taken Monday morning. He won’t score well but quite a bit of mass.
Who cares what he scores, that's a beautiful bull. Personally I would rather have mass and character than length anyway. That is a beautiful rack IMO. Nice going Zim.
Congrats everyone. Nice bulls.
My son Zac with his otc CO bull. Day after Labor Day. He called in two 4 pts that I passed on and a 6 pt accidentally to another hunter. Temp was oppressive.

Glunker, What’s going on with those brow tines? Looks like only one on the driver’s side? And a spike #2 on the passenger side?
AZ Unit 6A bull
AZ Unit 6A bull
My AZ bull shot with my mouth tab release after a two year hiatus from hunting due to med condition and two spine surgeries. Back in the saddle again!
Like TrapperKayak said, that is an impressive bull Zim killed. I like those that have a lot of mass, even if they don't score well.
Yup, and Zac's ain't too shabby either... character, mass and length. But for me its the mass that counts. Like a big rosie or tule.
Congrats Dave, Way to persevere! Great bull!
Awesome guys my first bull after 12 years
Thank goodness someone got it done after 12 years. LOL! Seriously.....congrats!!!!
Congrats Flatlndr! You paid your dues! Nice bull!
I love it! Congrats to all! But, DPowers made me humble in the dedication and perseverance he exhibited in getting back at it.
Dave for the win!! That is great....congrats!!
Always watch this thread, finally I get to add to it! Not the best picture, but the bull looks great in it. NM 9/18.

This is a rare big bull for us with unlimited over the counter bull tags and a rifle season that opens Sept 17th! Archery season is Aug 25 to Sept 16th and we know how to get it done if anyone is interested in a hunt with us? 100+% success rate this past fall. Call or text Mike at 780 864 7736 for more info. Wyoming Gen tag bull taken on the 17th. I made a horrible shot that evening. One I very much regret. But after a few hours the next morning I was able to find the bull. He went 390 yds from the spot of the shot.
Great job recovering that bull, mulecreek !
My Colorado bull. Wish I had this kinda background in all my pics!

New Mexico, 9-19 @ 8 am. 30 yard shot, 50 yard recovery.
Last day AZ bull in the rain!
Most discouraging elk hunt of my life turned around in one minute. 7 yard shot, 40 yard pile-up, 200 yards downhill to main county road, 8 minutes from my cabin, public land. Girlfriend helped me butcher and pack it out.
The big bull was roaring just ahead but with only 4 days left in one of the lowest success rate units in the state I wasn't about to pass up this guy in my lap.
Dammit Lou! Why did you change pants for the hero shots?? Everyone knows you can’t kill elk in jeans. Sitka or nothing!

A "lesser" AZ unit!
One of the most fun elk hunts ever! Maybe because at 60+ yrs and a total knee replacement in '17 I appreciate it a whole lot more! 50 yd shot < 75 yd recovery in a "lesser" AZ unit in the random draw! My 10th elk, 8 with a bow! Special thanks to Koury Guide Service and especially Steffen Koury! Congrats to all!

Greg, nice bull, great experience with your son. How easy was it getting him out of that spot to process him? :/

Many nice bulls on here. Congrats to everyone. I stalked this bull in blizzard conditions and shot him at noon on the 20th.
Congrats Ron! Fantastic bull and and one of the best elk success photos I've ever seen!
Lots of nice bulls, guys. Its been 4 years and I'm glad to be back on the meat pole thread. WY, PL, DIY
Congrats Ron! You talked to my dad about elk hunting at the Kodiak airport, after your deer hunt. I told my dad that he just had a conversation with an elk hunting legend! I can't wait to show him the picture!
Thanks Pav, and Jim, I remember that conversation. Hope he likes the photo. Ron
Ron, are you sure you didn't get him in Oregon or Washington? Any problems getting him cooled out? Sweet!

I’ll do a write-up when it’s slow but we went 3/4. Should’ve been 4/4 but that’ll get told on the story :). God I love hunting the west.
Nice consolation prize back home from my deer stand after being rained out in the breaks...……...
Looking forward to the story, grossklw!

This is my 2019 Wyoming, public land, DIY bull. Called him in to 12 yards. Deadly frontal shot ( thank you Corey). Buried the arrow up to the nock, taking out all the vitals. He went about 50 yards and was dead in less than a minute. 60 lb draw weight, 480 grn Victory VAP TKO arrow, tipped with a Slick Trick Viper broadhead.
I've been waiting to put this on here until after my hunt story was posted. It's on here titled" The quest is the best" for anyone interested.
10/12/2019
Watched the herd the night before. Knew what I needed to do the next morning. Was able to ambush this bull as he followed a cow over a steep ridge top and screamed in my face while at full draw. What it's all about.....
4 days later I was able to get my wife on her very first!
Livin the dream, Justin! Congrats again to you and your wife.
Way to go DS, great double up with the wife...
Thanks! It’s been an unbelievable year so far!
Wow Justin, congratulations to you and your wife!
Awesome bulls Justin! Way to get it done!!!
Managed to fold a couple of freezer tags yesterday. Now on to find a big bull
Way late to the party but I managed to get my first archery bull last September. Hoping for a repeat in a short 7 months! 9-20-19 we called him in to 19 yards, slight downhill shot ran 10 yards and tipped over
Goodness Beachtree! What a bull!
Wow!
Congratulations to all the successful 2019 elk hunters.
Definitely some exceptional bulls taken last year and many more great experiences!
Hopefully 2020 is even better!
