I have a standing deal with each of our children. If they make honor roll all their years of high school the summer before their senior year I will take them on a trip to wherever they want to go (within our budget). My older daughter chose Disney, so off we went! Well next up it was Kia’s turn. To say I was overjoyed to hear her ask for a bowhunt rather than Mickey ears is an understatement! Kia wanted to shoot a pronghorn for her senior trip. She’s shot whitetails, mule deer, turkey, and elk. Now she wanted a pronghorn. I quickly agreed and reached out to Bowsite sponsor Pronghorn Paradise to see if we could schedule a hunt for her. The catch was it had to be the first hunt of the season because school starts next week! Well we were able to work out dates for this season and here we are, ready to leave for the beautiful Cowboy state to hunt antelope! As an added bonus we were able to workout the details to have the K114 knife join us on our hunt. Kelly and I never met in person but we were good friends on bowsite, talked on Facebook, etc. His passing was shocking and tragic, a great man and great father taken from us way too soon. It is an incredible honor for Kia and I to have K114 with us on this trip, and we’ll think of Kelly often over the next few days I’m sure. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to put K114 to good use!
Lots of range time this summer!
Lots of range time this summer!
Her groups have really tightened up and she’s shooting maybe better than I have ever seen her shoot!
Her groups have really tightened up and she’s shooting maybe better than I have ever seen her shoot!
Kia has practiced hard this summer. She draws 50# and has dialed her range in comfortably out to 35 yards. She will not shoot further than that distance. Lots of shooting over the summer and it looks like she’s prepared as well as she could be!
Kia even spent a little time Sunday with this guy discussing their upcoming hunts. I tried explaining that the ice cream didn’t come until AFTER the kill but kids will be kids I guess!
Well boys, I have to finish loading the truck and jump in the shower so we can get on the road to WY. I’ll drop some more updates later today after we get to the ranch. I’ll post another photo of Kia, I’m sure you guys don’t want to see any of my manscaping photos!
Great kick off to a very special hunt across the board! Looking forward to the story and the pictures!
Got a feeling there is an antelope in trouble over In Wyoming;-)
Good luck Half Pint!
What a memory this is going to be for you both! Good luck Kia!
Awesome, this stuff is truly the best of Bowsite! Good luck Kia! Drive safe dad, and enjoy your time together, they grow up fast!
Looking forward to seeing the pics, and hearing the stories.
Been looking forward to this. Best of luck, Kia and dad!
I really have to question your choice of friends you let Kia eat ice cream with. Looks like a bad influence. Did he steal her ice cream cone??? ;-)
I’ll be following this one! Good luck, Kia!! Those speed goats don’t stand a chance!!!
I will be following this thread closely. Good luck Kia!
I’ll be looking forward to this one.
Good luck!!
Best of luck to you both. I hope Kia had sprinkles on her ice cream because sprinkles are for winners....no sprinkles for Troy. Looking forward to updates with lots of pics!
This is going to be a memorable trip for you both. Best of luck!
Making memories. Good luck, bud!
The shenanigans have already begun :-)
Best of luck, Kia! Looking forward to this...
Now we’re ready to travel!
Best of luck guys! Looking forward to the updates!
My daughter starts senior year in 2 weeks so I'm especially excited for you guys.
Great stuff Justin! Looking forward to seeing Kia behind a pronghorn! Enjoy your hunt!
Oh man following this hunt for sure !! Good stuff.
While it will be an awesome hunt, it unfortunately has to all be downhill after Dot's Pretzels. :)
Looking forward to this! Good Luck Kia!!
Good luck Kia! I too question your ethics of who you eat ice cream with. I hope he paid!
Good luck Kia! Brotsky you don’t need any more as your high school daughter wants to go hunting with you and it doesn’t get better than that. Great job and Kia thanks for choosing to be one of us.
Great stuff!! My daughter is married and off on her own and she had my first grand baby last week. Like everyone says it goes fast. Soak it up.
Aw dang this is gonna be a fun one!!! Girl Power!!
So cool !! Enjoy your time together!
You are eating some of the best pretzels in the world. I buy them at our local co-op feed store.
Best of luck on your hunt.
Love hearing about your hunts with Kia. Have a great time
Tough to beat some Dot's pretzels for a road trip!
Where have we seen this before?!?
Made a quick pit stop at Devil’s Tower. As Kia says “Devil’s Tower? Looks more like God’s tree stump!”
Jeff......FYI.....I had already eaten the sprinkles by the time Justin took the pic!
Nick...Justin said he’d buy me either an ice cream cone or a Grain Belt Premium. I think I made the right choice.
KIA.......Glad we got to see you and your folks before you headed out on your big adventure! Hope you guys have a blast and kill a couple monsters! Don’t be surprised if you find a few Hemi hairs on your hunting clothes while you’re sitting in the blind ;-) She wishes you success as well. Shoot straight>>>————>
Good luck Kia, kill a big one !
Troy, slack off on that ice cream......
Man, this is going to be so cool, and I can't wait to see the outcome! A great and awesome dad, and an incredible and beautiful daughter... Kelly has got to be smiling! This is why we do these things!!! So many great men on here!!!
God Bless Brothers, and Sisters!
Awesome to see this hunt start rolling! I agree that there’s a speed goat or 2 in trouble. Nice groups young lady!! Best of luck to you and Dad.
We made it safely to the ranch and enjoyed a delicious dinner with Bob and Helen. Fellow Bowsite Zebrakiller and his boy round out our hunting camp for the next 4 days. Conditions look great and there’s plenty of animals around. Kia and I will be in the Jackpot blind early in the am trying to kill a pronghorn! One more picture of Kia at Devil’s Tower for good measure!
How many bags of Dots made the trip?
This is gonna be a great thread! Good luck!
I think we’re just going to sit in the Tahoe tomorrow.
Outstanding! By all the smiles I would say this is already a success. Have a great hunt!
Good luck in the morning!!
And you may want to consider upgrading Kia to 3/4 pint at least.
Good luck! You're already having success no matter how the hunt turns out. Hope she gets a big one.
Good luck to you guys in the morning! My little girl is also my favorite hunting buddy.
Way to go dad! Good luck kia!
We’re in the blind and waiting for shooting light. Going to be a beautiful day in Wyoming!
How many kids read their AP Bio homework in an antelope blind?
We’ve got two small bucks and several does and fawns about 500 yards west. I can’t see what’s in the alfalfa in front of us over the berm. Hopefully something gets thirsty other than me! :-)
How picky is Halfpint going to be?
Oh great, another day I get nothing done at work. I'll be checking in often. Good luck!
Not picky at all. Old pinky here is ready for battle! Ha!
A solid buck just came down out of the hills onto the alfalfa. I can’t see them when they get into the field because of the berm for this dam, but he’s on the right property now at least!
Good luck Kia! Its a beautiful morning!
Small buck but a small girl might be interested LOL
Small buck but a small girl might be interested LOL
This buck is about 150 yards away to the east angling slowly closer. He keeps staring at the water like he might be interested.
Brotsky, Maybe Kia could start a 150 yard shot thread?
The 150 yard shot threads are all on the community forum lol. He dropped below the berm so I can no longer see him. He’s either coming or not!
Looks like her biology book was opened to the page on “antelope anatomy”. Studying on shot placement for a frontal shot, perhaps?!
Keep it coming! Already getting exciting!
We’re violating the Joebowhunter rule. We take selfies before we kill!
Great read so far, I'm in for following this. My wife is currently pregnant with a girl and i hope to be in your shoes in 18 years.
Going to be wearing out the refresh button today! Pick a spot Kia!!
12 bucks came down the fence line 500 yards west of us. Almost looked like something may have spooked them off the alfalfa field. Two were book bucks for sure. They all kind of filtered off in every direction and out of sight.
Don’t shoot something too quick! We need a few days of distractions!
Always something to watch at a waterhole. Need it to heat up and the sun to come out!
It is now raining. That’ll bring em in! Ha!
I'm going to show this thread to my 6 year old. She'll enjoy it!
We’re all rooting for you good luck go get him.
Good luck! What part of the state are you in?
Stick tight! They will still come to the waterhole even in the rain!
Good luck Kia!
Hope that big buck comes trotting in soon!
Now the sun is out! Just like South Dakota weather! Ha!
Njbuck, we are hunting near Gillette.
Great stuff Justin and Kia!!! Gettm!!! Shoot straight and take your time Kia! I’m not getting much work done today as I’ll be following this.
About time to break out the book and join Kia in reading! Can’t think of a better one to enjoy while bowhunting!
This thread brought to you by Eyad! Ha!
Do you each have a tag? ‘Cause one of you has to hold out and stretch this story out!
Hawkeye will be proud!! Great read.
Take turns, one reader, one watcher....and don't forget about us in the peanut gallery!
What an awesome father/daughter adventure...obviously one she will never forget.
Best of luck to you both!
K114 is itching to get bloody!
Meadowlark Lemon paid is a visit..then I had to explain who Meadowlark Lemon was! Ha!
That's one ugly meadowlark. lol
She’s getting stir crazy! Ha!
KIA I am rooting for you like no other. I can't wait to keep reading and hear all about your trip. As a Dad I am very proud of your choice in senior trips. Now get bloody girl!!!
I think we have enough crap in this blind to stay here a month! Ha!
Barely enough room for your feet!
Kia “I have to get my antelope at 2 p.m. so we can have pictures taken before happy hour starts at Sonic at 3 pm.” LMAO!
Sounds like she's buying! Get after it!!
I think we should rename her half-a-pint-a-blood
Get it done!!!!!!
Sometimes all dads are good for is a foot rest!
Really liking this, hopefully some Pronghorn cooperate for you two! Thanks for taking us along!
Yes. Thanks for sharing. Good stuff for sure. Couple questions Where is the nearest Sonic and do you stay in contact with Bob during the day to get updates on antelope movements?
Sonic is 5 minutes away :) Bob is a text or call away if we need anything.
"Reckon that most times a footrest never knows the amount of amazing support it provides....;^)"
Wise man and well said!
So you are very near Gillette ?
We used to outfit out of there and moorecroft and newcastle Great country
A herd of 19 bucks and a couple does and fawns is on the hill over the alfalfa field about half a mile away. Hopefully they get thirsty!
"....u know what pretzels do... "
Make them thirsty for Grain Belt?
Should be some getting thirsty any minute now!
Two hours until Happy Hour... I'll take a footlong chili dog w/mustard, cheese tots and a cherry limeade.
I can hear it now...."Excuse me miss, I believe you have some ketchup on your hand." Kia, "Nope, it's just antelope blood."
Would it be considered baiting to sprinkle Dots pretzels out to make them come drink?
Gotta be goats on the way soon!
Great thread! Can’t wait to read the rest. Good luck shoot straight.
These pretzels are making me thirsty!! The herd of bucks filtered down in our direction out of our line of sight. I can only imagine they entered the alfalfa field in front of us. Step in the right direction!
He's gotta make the book if you are gonna sacrifice some Dots!
This little guy paid is a visit but did not come down for a drink. Getting warmer!
I predict Lil' K flings an arrow within the next couple hours! C'mon Kia!
I guess nothing else is working so she’s going to give them two tickets to the gun show! 60% of the time it works every time! :-)
“These pretzels are making me thirsty!!” Woody Allen would have been proud. Did you bring any Drake’s Coffeecakes, Mackinaw peaches, Junior Mints or a marble rye in your cooler, too?? ;-)
Things are gonna get interesting any minute. Good luck, Kia!
Being totally unready always helps things happen fast!!
LOL Ambush, she’s not asleep yet. That’s when things happen!
Kia and I were very saddened this morning to hear of the passing of BigDan. We’ll be thinking of him and his family the rest of the hunt. Afterall, the K114 hunts are our way of remembering those who have left this earth but still ride in our hearts and thoughts as we hunt. Kia’s going to do her best to get Dan one more antelope. God bless him and his family, they are in our prayers.
Hunt just got that much more special. You are good people!
We may have had some Democratic nicknames made up for this little guy that had his head up his arse! Ha!
We may have had some Democratic nicknames made up for this little guy that had his head up his arse! Ha!
Our little pond is sandpiper central. These little guys kept us entertained most of the day!
Does anybody know what all those little critters dimpling the water in the ponds are there. The birds eat them like crazy.
A good day in camp, no antelope down but everyone saw a lot of antelope and a couple close calls. Saw a few really great bucks. Tomorrow is another day!
Good luck today! Did I miss it or did you say who you was hunting with?
Good morning from Wyoming! We’re in the “moo” blind this morning. Lots of antelope watered here yesterday. Hopefully today is the day! Might not be many pics today, service at this blind is junk. Hopefully I can post text updates. I will upload photos tonight.
We’ve already seen quite a few animals filtering down to the alfalfa. Sunny and warm today. They will water, hopefully Kia can make it happen! Good feeling shots will be fired!
Really wish I could get the pics to upload. Bomb sunrise this morning! Gonna be warm and sunny all day, goat killing weather!
C'mon, Kia! May your arrow fly true and find it's mark!
Sounds like today’s the day! Shoot straight Kia !!!
Having a blast following along with you two. Good luck!!
Sleeping beauty probably cannot be awoken at this point to shoot a pronghorn! Ha!
Thanks for taking us along... get 'em girl.
Good luck Kia! Mentally shoot your loper like a 3d target and there will be ice cream in the near future :-)
This is awesome! Good luck and pick a spot!
You got this Kia!!!!
You know you are a much better shot (and hunter) than your Dad! Lol!!
Mark
Slow at the water so far but keep seeing bucks in the area around the waterhole. Good chance something comes in as the day heats up. Kia got a good nap in so hopefully she will be a little more “pleasant” the rest of the morning! Ha!
She'll be super "pleasant" when she's doing the "grip n grin"! Keep the updates coming, still fun to read what you are seeing even without the pics.
Got a good feeling about today!
Pretty sure Bigdan and Kelly are smiling down on you and following along.
Heck, they get to see the action as it’s happening while us poor slobs have to wait for Justin’s pictures!!
Good luck today. Hoping today is the day she gets it done! Following along for sure.
Kia napping... Justin said there was an 80" goat at 20 yards and he couldn't wake Kia up. Lol
I'm betting there's going to be bloody pics later...
Only a teen can nap like that! If I did that I couldn't walk for a week!
No kidding! Makes me hurt all over just thinking about it!
Gumby Girl!
Small buck about 150 yards to the east of us slowly milling around. Kia says she might whack him if he comes in! :-)
Good luck Kia! Hope you kill a biggun!
Has two small bucks come in and water, one at 15 yards and one at 20. They were not quite what she’s looking for and did not present great angles for her anyway. Should be a bunch more action today I would think. Going to hope for a little better one.
Nap time is over. Adrenaline rush likely took care of that! Can't wait to read about what's to come!!
Way to stick to your guns Kia. Or bows, or um, standards I guess. Let the little guys go to get the big ones. You have lots of time left, and it sounds like it’s only getting better!
—Jim
Just saw this thread. Awesome. Seeing Kia and Troy together in that pic made my day!! Two great people. Good luck you guys. Those hunts are boring and fun at the same time. After the hunt you look back and want to do it all over again. Getm Kia!! I’m rooting for you guys full bore
As I was reading the thread from the beginning, I was wondering where the obligatory photo of the boots was (unless that just applies to live hunts from tree stands?), but I saw you had it covered! Good luck to her. I feel good that today is the day! It sounds like there are lots of bucks around, so hold out and take a nice one.
Shots fired! 12 bucks on the waterhole, an arrow was sent!
Sweeeet!! rooting for a short bloodtrail!
Awesome you guys. Very deserving. Happy for you all. Good shootin Kia!!
Well, come on, We Are WAITING!!!!! :)
Tick-tock, tick-tock!
Refresh, refresh, refresh!!!
Come on Brotsky!
You’re killing us here!
What's more important, enjoying the moment with Kia or sharing with all these people...most of whom you've never seen before? LOL
I predict they are dealing with a dead animal right now! I hope so!!!
Can't wait to hear how this turns out! I'm at the edge of my seat here! Good Luck!
I think Iv checked this thread 75 times this afternoon
I sure wish I could post pics right now :-)
I’ll just say that Kia has come a long ways from missing 16 straight turkeys! Ha! I still have a tag in my pocket. I’ll post a pile of pics when I’m able to tonight. She made an awesome shot and there is a buck on the ground! Woohoo!!! I’ll tell the whole story with pics as well. I have some good ones!
I'm just gonna say CONGRATS now! Will keep checking back for the Grip n Grins!
Awesome and congrats Kia! Super happy for you! Antelope are awesome animals to bowhunt.
Been reading this thread since Wednesday and enjoying the excitement and anticipation. Congrats to Kia, just waiting for those pics and story!!!
So awesome....congrats to Kia!!!
Early Congrats- I've been following this thread almost hourly.
Congrats to the huntress!!
Awesome! I’ve been checking this thread all day! Way to go Kia!
I heard the local Sonic has free Wifi and it's still Happy Hour...
Congrats!
LMAO KS! I told her yesterday she could have Sonic if she shot something today. She said “I’m gettin a large!” Ha!
Couldn't have happened to a brighter little gal than Kia and a great supporter and all around good dude, in Justin. Super happy for ya, Kia! Great pics too. :)
Oh, and you did it in Kelly's honor. Love it.
Woo! Hoooo!
Will be waiting impatiently for the rest of the story!!!!
Way to go Kia! Congratulations!
Back to the situation at hand..there’s a beautiful buck that will make PY about 500 yards up the draw from us. Every antelope we have seen come from that way has come to water. We will wait patiently to see if we can whack a double header!
In for pics of her (and hopefully your ) bucks!!
That would certainly be way cool for a double-header!
Keepin this one open and refreshing for results!
Spectacular job so far...Keep up the good work:-)
I’m (almost) patiently waiting to see the pics of Kia’s goat........
WAY TO GET IT DONE KIA!!!!!
Can't wait for more!!!
Super happy for you! Nice job Kia!
Congratulations young lady I bet you can’t stop smiling. Great job Justin. With your daughters bowsite fame. You will soon be only referred to as Kia’s dad. Congratulations on raising a great young lady.
A pretty cool thing happened when Kia shot her buck. She had written BigDan’s name on her fletching as a tribute. I went to snap a pic of her bloody arrow with his name on it and much to my surprise the writing was gone! We only had a gel ink pen in the blind to write with and the blood must have washed it away. It was almost like BigDan’s name left with the spirit of the antelope. That made me stop and reflect for a second. I couldn’t help but think that Dan would have thought that was pretty special. These hunts kind of take on a life of their own as we all reflect on our own things. This is a good thing we’re doing bowhunters. We need to keep this going for Kelly, BigDan, and all the other Bowsiters we’ve lost. Good stuff!
Congrats to you both.....looking forward to the pics and story
This is so awesome, great thing your doing with your daughter, she is one great kid and a pleasure to be around!
Awesome job, Kia! Good luck Brotsky.
That’s awesome! Congratulations Kia, and to you too Kia’s Dad.
Kelly & Dan are hoisting a cold one right now!
Waiting on the pics.
Congrats to you both!! Cant wait to see the pics. Also a cool story about Big Dan's name on the fletching. I love doubles, make it happen Brotsky!
Pretty sure that Kelly and Dan ain’t done with you and Kia yet! K114 is gonna be busy;-)
Great story and wtg Kia!! Now its YOUR turn!
It’s been great hunting with you and Ryan as well ZK! Good dad’s always let their kids kill first! Ha! Post up your boy’s buck when you can. He killed a slammer this morning! Couple proud dad’s around the dinner table tonight!
Congrats to Kia and dad that is pretty awesome
Sweet! Congrats to all! K114, Kelly and Big Dan celebrating!
Way to go, Kia! Can’t wait for the the details!
Congrats to your son as well, ZK! Looks like somebody might have had to do a little wading/swimming on the retrieval!
Zebrakiller,
Please sign the book, and your son as well!!!! Please add anything you would like!!! Kelly and Dan would love it! The more the better! I even encourage people to have the guides or outfitters sign the book! This is all about people! The experiences we have, the people we meet and engage with!
Man, this thread is awesome! Congrats to both of the young hunters. Can't wait to see Kia's buck!
Bill,
That is an awesome goat your son killed. Congrats. Looks like the acorn didn’t fall from the tree !!
A few more small bucks have come in to the water but not the big boys. About an hour left to hunt. I can’t even count how many bucks we’ve seen today. Crazy numbers of antelope here on Bob’s place!
Congrats to all well done so far !
Still seeing bucks but not committing to the water hard like in the heat of the day. Still hoping in this last 1/2 hour we can get something done. I hear rumor I may be the only tag holding hunter left in camp!
And this is the good, no, the great part of the Internet!!
Being live fed these hunts has a way of bringing us back to our own “firsts” and great moments! For some of us, they are way, way back, but made fresh again through the eyes of the young.
Congrats to Kia and Dad and keep going!
Congratulations Kia, great job!
Awesome! Congrats! I hope you pulled off the double but if not, I'm sure goal number 1 was accomplished. Great shooting Kia!
Awesome job Kia!! And a great job of guiding by Dad! Enjoy that Sonic :-)
Kia and I were greeted to this amazing Wyoming sunrise this morning. It was a portend of the things to come on this fine day!
Kia and I had drawn the “Moo” blind today. This waterhole was on fire yesterday. We knew right away that we were going to have action. A herd of bucks came through right before first light and it was a parade of bucks after that all day long!
These two young bucks came into water and gave Kia ample opportunities. It was early and based upon what we knew and the forecast for today she knew she could get a chance at a better buck if she just waited.
There were antelope EVERYWHERE around our waterhole today. They even hid in the sunflowers!
Spectacular pics! I know it’s late and you guys had a big day but please keep it coming as long as you can! Thank you!
More small bucks and more opportunities passed waiting for that special buck!
Finally we spotted a better buck by the fence coming in.
All of sudden more bucks kept popping up, one right after another! There were 12 bucks in the herd altogether. Now none of these bucks were heartstoppers but there was one...he had a beautiful black face, amazing cape, and a little character. Kia decided that was her buck!
The bucks committed to the water all at once. They pretty much lined the entire far side of the waterhole. They were chasing each other around and swirling back and forth. Kia never took her eyes off “her buck”. Finally they settled in to drink. Kia was out of position in the blind to make the shot. She had to move over and literally sit in my lap to get out the correct window at her buck. The movement spooked them a bit but they hung around while Kia came to full draw. She followed her buck through the crowd when fate opened up a shooting window for her. I called out the range and she settled her pin and sent her arrow on its way!
Contact! She hit about 3-4” too far back from perfect but up and down was on the money. I felt good she was in the liver but we couldn’t be sure. The herd sprinted away from the waterhole and disappeared over a slight rise. The herd appeared again momentarily. I scanned them looking for blood or a wounded buck. Nothing..and they seemed one fewer in number!
We gave the buck plenty of time. Bob and Helen came out to help with the recovery. We recovered the arrow and found dark red liver blood and no smell of guts. At that point I was very confident in her shot. We found very little blood but I knew he was down and not far away. We crested the hill and I saw no buck. I knew he had to be here? Suddenly Helen said “Kia, what is that by the fence?” You guys know what it was!
Gotta luv a bloody arrow in sight from the shot!
Hell yea!
Staying up past my bedtime for this!!!
Sa-weet!
She finally got to wrap her hands around her pronghorn buck!
Kia admired her beautiful buck. She had done a spectacular job remaining calm and making a good shot under pressure. She has grown incredibly as a hunter since her elk hunt. That was a game changer for her and she’ll be the first to admit it turned her into a hunter. Her buck wasn’t the biggest or smallest we had seen but he sure was pretty and unique and that was what she was after!
Such a cool experience for the both of you guys!!
There’s the famous “fingernails” pic!! Way to go, Kia!
Bedtime now, but I’ll check this thread again in the morning.
Hugs and congratulations ensued. Along with a whole senior photo session of trophy photos of course! Kia was so proud of herself! She was very nervous right after the shot that she had missed again or wounded an animal. She gains more confidence with every hunt but all of those near misses from her early years still rattle her a little. Not this time though, this time everything was text book!
Great buck! Congrats all around! She should be stoked!!!
We can’t thank Bob and Helen enough for helping us with this hunt. They are amazingly gracious hosts and truly understand how to hunt their ranch. The numbers of antelope are incredible, we rarely went any time at all without antelope in sight today. This is a waterhole/blind hunt for antelope, no spot and stalk or otherwise. You’ll spend long hours waiting and weather obviously plays a factor. You get great weather like we had today and the hunting is out of this world! Yesterday was cool with rain and the results showed. This is such a fantastic hunt to spend with a kid or loved one. Kia and I have so much fun in the blind, great to be able to bond with your kids doing something you both love! Give Bob and Helen a chance at Pronghorn Paradise, They have the animals and they know how to hunt them. Hunting is hunting, you have good days and bad. The bad days are limited when you have the numbers of critters they do!
The final post for me tonight because I have to get up in 5 hours and hunt antelope again tomorrow! How could we not get a picture of the pronghorn princess and K114. After all this hunt is about remembering and honoring the legacy left behind by great men like Kelly Harris, Dan Moore, Dwight Schuh, and so many others we have lost. It’s also about creating the next generation of great bowhunters. I think about the dads that already took their kids on the K114 hunts. I’m proud to call them my friends and only hope to live up to how great they are as fathers. As Kia made her pronghorn blood fingerprint in the K114 journal I think it was one of my proudest moments. My little half pint was all grown up.
Thanks Justin and Kia for making my night here at work much better! Awesome pics of one fine huntress! Congrats all around to both of you!
I will by ice cream for everyone! Nicely done. my best, Paul
Brotsky, that is one special moment for sure....all of us dads understand exactly what you are saying..congrats go out to you as much as Kia. Great job to both of you!!!
Holy smokes! Congratulations, Kia!!! I knew you would connect on a nice pronghorn.
You’re one awesome dad, Justin. What you’re doing is the best thing a father can do for his children, and the future of bowhunting. Threads like these are inspirational, and gets me even more stoked about getting my 2 daughters involved in hunting. Now it’s your turn....I’ll be spending the day checking back to see your grip n grins!
Also a big CONGRATULATIONS to Ryan, as well! Great character on both goats, and great to see the kiddos getting it done!
P.S. It’s 2am here in PA...just put my 10 week old daughter back to sleep in her crib....couldn’t wait to check this thread!! :)
This was a great read. Congratulations to both you f you.
Very impressive Brotsky! I mean you as a Dad! And a big congrats to Kia! This was a fun story to follow. And a heartwarming hunt story!
Congrats Young Lady and dad!
I have boo-coo intel for ya when ya get back home man.
Travel safe you 2,
Robb
Great stuff, Justin. Thanks for passing it on!
A lot of added pressure on that young lady with all of us watching on. Super job well done great posts. Congratulations
Awesome. Miss those days/hunts
Sitting alfalfa this morning, this field had 5 great bucks in it last night. Hopefully one wanders close enough! One tag still to punch for me. Kia is here to tell me what I’m doing wrong! Ha!
Filling tags are great, but there is nothing that will replace spending time like this with your children. Both of you will remember this as long as you live. Awesome job Kia.
Good luck this morning guys, been a good few days! Enjoy your time!
Kia and Justin you made a memory forever and it get's not better than that in life. Well done and keep it going.
First thing I did this morning was check this post! What a beautiful buck Kia!! Congratulations again:)
Get er done Brotsky!! Good Luck today!
Good Luck today, Justin!
Grace and I both want to say a HUGE congratulations to Kia!!! Grace is a senior this year as well. Where did the time go? I cherish all of those hours in the turkey blind as I know that you do! Pete
Sleeping beauty is at it again! That early morning nap seems to work so I don’t question it! Ha!
Solid buck in the hay field off to the east. He is slowly feeding this way. Hopefully he ends up in front of the blind.
Way to go!! Love this thread
Congratulations again Kia. What a great looking animal, very prominent colors on the face. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us.
This has been a Top 10 Bowsite Hunt for sure! I didn't get to read about the recovery until this morning but certainly enjoyed every word and picture. Looking forward to following along again this morning. Good Luck Justin! You better schedule a chiropractor appointment too....just looking at Kia napping is making my back hurt lol.
Good job to both of you!!! Brotsky...... if you want to adopt me I’m game!
Come on Brotsky! Get a good buck today!
Well a herd of bucks came in and I took a shot at one of the bigger two. I won’t sugar coat it, I made a terrible shot. No excuses. Too far back. The buck immediately bedded, the rebedded a few yards away. He rebedded again 10 yards further away. He’s a sick critter and I’m hopeful we’ll recover him but it will be a hard time for that antelope. I feel sick about it right now. I know this stuff happens in bowhunting but it doesn’t make it any easier. Buck is not a giant but a good representative. Hopeful he doesn’t suffer long.
Sounds positive that he is bedding and not moving far between beds. He won’t move far and probably won’t last long. You’ll get him!
It happens, nothing you can do about it now so don't beat yourself up!
Sounds like you will recover him after some time.
Keep your chin up. You've had an awesome weekend with Kia. Don't let this shot bring you down. I'm betting in a few hours we'll see you gripping and grinning as well. Hang in there buddy.
Congrats again to Kia. The fingernail photo says it all.
Justin hang tough. I believe you got him, just not as fast of a death as you would like.
Great thread! Give your buck time and you’ll recover him!
BTW, the "face to face" photo should be on the cover of a magazine....or at least framed and hanging on the wall.
Wonderful pics and posts last night, Justin! Congrats again to Kia!
Good luck on your buck this morning. Patience is a virtue. Looking forward to pics of you and the buck!
That's awesome. Awe-some...…
I recently had a very wise man, and great dad tell me "How do kids spell love? T-I-M-E"...…… You're doing it right man. Congrats to you both.
If he's bedding down that fast he's done. It's an unfortunate part of what we do. You'll get him. Antelope aren't deer or elk. They're the bottom of the bunch when it comes to toughness. A hole in any organ and they won't make it. Could you maybe slip up on him and finish it? (I had one like this once. He bedded immediately and his head would start bobbing after about an hour. It isn't like they can run into a swamp or thick timber, so I decided to slip up on him and got another one in to finish the deal.) I'm sure we'll see your smiling face behind him soon!
Congrats Kia and Justin !!
Congratulations Kia... what a pretty antelope. Nice work.
We still have a good visual on the buck. He’s head bobbing pretty good now, not sure he could get out of this bed but they surprise you sometimes. Would love to stalk in and end it but nothing between us but 8” alfalfa. I think time will do the job, fingers crossed.
Thanks for the update. Way to be patient.
This is what we’re dealing with. This was at least an hour ago though and he’s a lot worse off now.
Yeah, that sucks, I absolutely hate that feeling too. You got him good enough, just gotta tough it out now. It will all work out, stay positive. Looking forward to the pics.

Congratulations Kia!! I really appreciate seeing your success. As a young woman, you’ll serve as a role model for the little girls that want to hunt.
My daughter is only 6. But I’m already telling her . . . She can be pretty and girly and still like to kill things ;)
Patience Justin. Never how we want it to go, but looks like you’ll get him!
Congrats Kia, nothing succeeds like success !
Hang in there Brotsky, he’s not going anywhere. It’s painful to wound but it happens to all of us. At least you won’t lose him in that terrain. This has been the best thread on Bowsite in a while.
Very awesome thread!! Fingers crossed for you that the wait is over soon. I know how you feel. Not all shots are perfect and we ache when they are not.
Congrats. He’s a dead lope’ laying. Nothing can prevent you from eventually getting it.
The buck is deceased. Has been dead for maybe 45 minutes. The shot was a little better than I thought, likely took out some liver thus leading to his demise.
Good job guys! Great trip.
Yes! WTG Justin! Double punched tags for you two! What a great experience you provided for Kia with this. Kudos to both of you!
Congratulations Justin! Proud of you both.
Congratulations to the whole crew! Great hunt!
Way to go guys! Spending time with family and friends is what it’s all about!
Way to go guys! Thanks for bringing us along with you, we really enjoy following your hunts! I have 3 daughters at home shooting bow and can’t hardly wait to get them out hunting!
Thanks guys! Will post some trophy photos after everything is taken care of!
The final tag was punched on this hunt with K114! The camp went 4 for 4 in 3 days!!
Did I mention this really was a pronghorn paradise??
This is what this hunt was all about. A father and daughter celebrating life together and honoring those who couldn’t be here.
Life takes a team, and we had a great one this week! I can’t thank Bob and Helen at Pronghorn Paradise enough for all they did for us. If you want to take your kid on a special hunt this one is tough to beat! It was great to meet Bill and his boy Ryan and share camp with them as well. Good people! Thanks for following along Bowsite!
Congratulations & Thanks for taking us along!
Thank you for such a wonderful hunt recap! Congratulations all around!
Such a great hunt and great memories for all of you! What a great honor for those that are no longer with us!

Glad you got yours Brotsky. I really miss hunting pronghorn, and this was a very good reminder of that. It has been great to follow along !
Kia would disown me if I didn’t include this awesome picture Helen took. Kia leaving her mark in the journal with the blood of her pronghorn!

Justin: Your wife and Kia’s Mom is very proud! Bowsite Rocks again! C
Congrats to Kia and Justin. Definitely a top 5 Bowsite story. That pic of Kia placing her thumbprint in the diary brought a tear to my eye. Truly a wonderful way to honor Kelly. Looking forward to when K114 shows up at my place the beginning of November
Congratulations! Great job Kia. Nice job bowsite!
Congratulations Kia,
Well done ! I do believe your smile is the only smile bigger than your dads in the group photo ?
Great Family adventure...well done, Kia and Justin !
Justin and Kia
Simply awesome!!
Thanks so much for letting ALL of us tag along.
Have a safe trip home !!!
That was one awesome thread! A huge congrats all around for your entire group and a big thanks for bringing us all along on this adventure!
All that’s left is the celebratory Sonic ice cream pics!
Just for T-Roy...and Kia opted for a local ice cream place because “Wyoming Sonic uses different mix.” I don’t question things anymore lol.
Great job keeping everything honest and real! Congrats to all of you.
Kia is kind of an ice cream expert, ya know!
So cool! Great hunt and thanks for taking us along.
Man so awesome! Congratulations on an awesome buck! Killer Kia!
What it’s all about right there. Congratulations
Excellent! Just excellent! Entertaining, inspiring and a bit touching too.
Looks like Kia had a complete pass through. What's her specs, draw weight and length, arrow weight and broadhead?
Awesome! Congrats to all!
I just love all the smiles!! Congratulations on a special hunting adventure together.
Best thread all year, Congrats to you both.
Congrats again to both of you! I logged on again to see the pics of your harvests while my daughter and I were watching a movie. Alex, my daughter, asked what I was looking at and I explained. I explained to her what the thread was about and she was excited. When we finally go to Kia's pic with her pronghorn she was like awesome, look, she has nail polish posing with her pronghorn like I did with my elk! Awesome story and experience!!!
Good stuff guys! Congrats on a memory you guys will never forget!!
Ya both did Great
Congrats!
Good luck, Robb
Good on ya! Where's K114 off to next? Shoulder mounts or euro's?
I feel like the infomercial guy at this point. But wait! There’s more! I thought it would be cool to share this. On the way home Kia and I stopped at Badlands National Park to do a little “sheep hunting”.
We had to work a little bit we found some rams!
Some nice sheep in the park! Pics are crap because we couldn’t figure out how to get closer with the terrain.
One more and we’ll call it good! We had a great time on our “sheep hunt”! Home all safe and sound and unpacked! K114 will be on its way to LUNG$HOT tomorrow for his elk hunt! Good luck Joe, get ya a good one!
Congrats again to both of you! Awesome weekend to follow along. Thanks for sharing everything with us!!

Best part of my Monday morning. Now on to this 3 hour meeting.
Congrats guys!!! Awesome work!
Absolutely AMAZING way to start my work week! Brotsky & Kia Yahoo! So happy for both of you. Happy for K114 and the thought of putting Big Dan on that fletch and letting him fly downrange one more time. Once again BOWSITE and the Good folks here just ROCK!!!
Great thread man! Awesome photos and story. Way to go Kia, you too Justin!
thanks for sharing. Way to go Kia.
Congrats to you both! Awesome story to follow!
I made antelope steak for lunch! I need to shoot two more if they all taste this good! Kia loves it and my boy Kaden ate most of it! Back to the grill! Ha!
Outstanding and big time congratulations. Kids are great... Today is my twin daughters 16th birthday and we start hunting Coues Whitetails from ground blinds this weekend. This thread has given me hope and inspiration. thank you. Ed F
Kia, you have the smile of an angel. Brotsky if your were totally broke you would still be a rich man. Congratulations young lady.
Fabulous! Can't say more than has been said. Way to make Danny and Kelly and your dad proud!
Congratulations to you and your Daughter and thanks for sharing!!
What a great adventure for you and Kia. You're an awesome dad!!! Planning a DIY pronghorn for my 13 yr old son and I for next year. Hope it is as much fun as your trip looked. Memories you'll both never forget!!!! Thanks for sharing.
What a great thread......
Thread of the year! Congrats Brotsky and Kia!
You know, when I first came to Bowsite many years ago, I was so impressed with the hard core hunting elite on here and the consistently impressive results they produced. There are a bunch of hunting machines on this site! Dozens of kills annually, sheep, moose, stud elk and deer, etc., it was like all these guys did was hunt. They were/are the all stars of the hunting world. I was so impressed.
Yet as the years have passed, I realized that many of these guys I admired so much were one-track minded, often single, hunting-obsessed individuals. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but as I've gotten older and started a family myself, it's these kinds of threads that I've come to appreciate much more now. The ones about the well-rounded family man who loves to hunt, surely, but also realizes there is more to life. The guy who cherishes his loved ones, gets excited about their successes in life and sees the big picture. That's you Brotsky! Job well done sir! Thanks for sharing. This made my day!
Congrats to both of you on a great hunt.
I agree - thread of the year. Kia and Justin, excellent story and results. Justin, thanks for sharing your passion for family. You set an exemplary example of being a great dad. Congrats to you both. Ron
Justin brought his family to the P&Y convention in Omaha this year. That girl is ALWAYS smiling!
The threads of your hunts are always great!
Congratulations to Kia and Justin... for being successful in so many ways.
I almost missed this thread because I was on a trip with my ten year old. One of Kia’s smaller fans who will enjoy this thread in the morning.
Hoping we can emulate your style and success as we go.
Props to you on all levels.
Thanks Guys for all the positive comments! Kia really enjoys reading all of them!
Stick, going to have to show her that place! She’d be all over it!
Great stuff, Brotsky. Congrats to you and your daughter and these hundreds of comments that were all supportive and positive. Geez we needed something like this in these days of such negativity.
Pretty COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )
LOVE to see threads like this! Glad you had some Bowsiters in camp- that had to make it even MORE fun!
That pic of you holding up your pronghorn's head with your arm around your daughter........................................................that's what it's all about! ;-)
BTW, glad to hear you knew that character with the ice cream................................................... ;-)
Thanks Perry! Always a pleasure to share camp with fellow bowsiters! That picture will forever be a favorite of mine, gonna frame it and hang it under Kia's mount!
Awesome !!! Thread of the Yeat! Big congratulations!!!!
Followed your thread from the start. It was AWESOME!!’! I knew K114 would bring you luck and you’d get it done. Kia was very patient and really got it done when opportunity knocked.
This thread is a HUGE inspiration for parents of kids who are interested in hunting. My very first hunt out of Pa was for antelope down near Medicine Bow and the Shirley Mountains. It changed my life!
Congratulations on a great hunt Brotsky!
Great thread. Thanks for sharing.
Great thread!!! Congrats to both of you. It looks like you'll have a great hunting partner for the future.
Congratulations Kia on a beautiful pronghorn! What a great group of hunters Helen and I had in camp for this hunt. I can’t say enough about the camaraderie that was producing so much positive energy. It was truly borderline spiritual.
Couldn't let this thread end on 399! Thought everyone would enjoy this photo of Justin and Kia with her buck!
Thanks Helen! Thought of you guys when I drove through Gillette the other day on my way elk hunting!
After being "Out of Bowsite commission" for a few weeks, I'm really glad this thread was brought back to the top yesterday! What a great thread! So happy for you Kia! Congrats!!! You did great!
Brotsky....you da man! Thanks for being "that guy"....and bringing us along!
Congratulations! What pav said!
Congrats and thanks for sharing!!!!!
I picked up Ki’s mount from the taxidermist today. He did an outstanding job. Very happy girl and a beautiful mount to remember this by!
Looks great! A memory she and you will cherish forever!
Brotsky - awesome looking mount! Kia will always have those memories when she looks at that!!
That is Awesome!!!!!
Congratulations!
That's great! Lil K does good!
Just Stinking Awesome!!!...Congrats!...4finger
Beautiful! Congratulations to both of you!
How cool for Kia! Beautiful!
Since we're bumping old threads up....one of my favorite memories. Kia is now 21 years old!!! Time flies and our kids grow up fast. She's still a great kid and is doing extremely well in school. One more year of college and she will begin her career as a Special Education teacher! We don't get to hunt together quite as often as we'd like now that she has gone off to school but we still sneak out once in awhile!
was a great week in camp together
Wow! Time certainly does fly! Would be cool to bring up some of her other hunts! Always love to see those threads!
Justin, thanks for bumping this thread ! I enjoyed it the first time and it was just as good the second time. Just last week I mentioned Kia to my wife as I wondered what she’s up to now. You’re a lucky guy !
