'morning All,
I just finished my last photo/scouting trip for fellow Bowsiters that have a tag in this Wyoming area. The rest of the year my trips will be for hunting or helping out another fellow Bowsiter on his/her tag.
1- with the 67-69 Type 9 LQ elk tag
2-another with the 22/05 Ram tag
3-this one has the 128 LQ Deer tag.
Plus the very first Road Trip with my new 2020 Jeep Gladiator 1/2 ton truck.
Thanks for taking the time to view

I like the looks of that Jeep Robb! Good looking truck!
I had this tag few years back. On the advice of a friend I saw more moose then elk. And wolves seen a pack of them along with a grizzly beautiful country!

I've been very fortunate finding comfy and unique type places to stay at over the years and for $95 a night Summer rate, I was very happy.

Other than having a 3.5 Grizzly population per Square mile it is a really kool looking area.

Good luck, Robb
Robb, those are some great pics and an eye opener for those that haven't been there.
Got a question for you: what's up with the "hard sided/no ground sleeping" rule? I tried to google "forest service special order 97-007" and couldn't find anything. How can I find out more details?
I've got a general tag and won't be in 67-69 but might be nearby so I'd rather find out the rules before getting there.
Curt, 97-007 is an old order that has been in place since 1997. It prohibits anyone from intentionally approaching within 100 yards of a grizzly bear. The nobground sleeping rule I did not see an order on when researching the Shoshone rules, Robb May have more insight on that or it may be specific to a certain campground or trailhead.
Hunted there solo on a leftover once. Probably not my brightest idea. No grizz problems but had a hair raising experience with a cow moose with calf in a willow thicket. I'm glad she was in a good mood. Wolf tracks everywhere and struggled to find any elk at all.
Midwest ... how long ago? We were near there (west, about 10 miles) in June. Seemed like a lot of elk. Rebound?
Thanks Brotsky. I was guessing that the no ground sleeping rule was in a designated campground, but don't know. I also saw where Robb said that there were 3.5 griz per sq mile. That's a lot of griz.
John, probably 5 or 6 years.
We hunted this area in 2017 and scouted several areas North of Dubois across the highway from the area that your pictures show. We also scouted the area behind the airport and south east of Dubois toward Lawyer College and saw more wolf tracks and very few elk while scouting and the locals kept telling us that the elk were high in the wilderness areas and that they wouldn't move down until the snow and they were right. If you want to discuss in more detail please PM me. I have not been too vocal on this site but I have noticed that you have been and we have recently lost one of the greatest bow hunters BIG DAN MOORE who I met personally in 2005 when he showed up in our camp with his dog riding on the gas tank and wanted to talk about the elk that we were going to hunt in Williams, AZ. the next day. At that time I did not know who he was but he was successful on killing his large 2nd bull and invited us over to see his first bull he had killed in another state and after we got home I discovered that he had killed another bull (3rd) in Missouri Flats, Montana. After that article I have reviewed Bow-site from time to time. When we finally drew another tag in Arizona Dan remembered us and offered help which was greatly appreciated without hesitation. He and his elk wisdom will be greatly missed beyond measure.
Yes the No Ground Sleeping was for the Campgrounds as far as I was told.
From the Pass down to Lava Mountain Resort they have had 5 different Grizzly bears hanging around most all summer.

I liked the 68 side more so than the 67 side of the unit options. 69 seemed to have to much Wilderness for the Non-Ressy DIY hunter.

Glad I got to this Y in the road so I could turn around as it was a tough crawl up to this Vista in 4 x 4 with No turnouts or any turn around option. Glad I didn't cut any tires/flats.

I'm pretty impressed overall with this area.
Nice Velvet Whitetail bucks throughout my travels along with some nice Muley bucks too.
A couple Moose, boo-coo Antelope, big Full Moon so most of my Elk sightings seemed to be early AM moving into the timber.
1 ewe w/lamb way down low in the HMA
Thanks again
Wrap up in the AM, I see I have plenty of PM's waiting for me.
Good luck, Robb

Kinda surprised at the amount of tag holders that have reach out to me on the Type 9 and one's wanting to go in on the 15th with a Gen tag option.
I always get asked at least once when I share my trip pix and info How Much I Charge. I've never charged a penny over all the years I have done this similar type deal. I just share more now on the Bowsite.
Thanks for your comments/PM's/text and even a couple Old School Emails! haha
