I am not sure when was the very first time someone called me sir or I felt like a senior citizen or when I had my first senior moment. Maybe it was when I first started to get a few gray hairs or maybe it was when I got my very first senior discount at the local coffee shop. Just a few years back, when someone called me sir, I thought of turning around to see if my dad was standing behind me but now I take it as a complement. Maybe I have earned it or maybe there are still a lot of polite people out there.
Maybe I got the senior citizen status when I turned 55 years. Maybe it was when I turned 62 years and started to collect Social Security or maybe it was when I had to adjust my investments when I turned 70 years. Or is the senior status, like ones age, just a number? Eighty years next March!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where has the time gone and how fast the past 29 elk seasons have turned into memories?
OH yes, a senior moment. Yea, I have used that phase a few times when I might have forgotten something, totally or for a few minutes.
But I do know this, being a senior or not, I am going solo elk hunting and leaving in the morning for my spike camp high up in the Colorado Rocky Mt, ie, the Flat Tops Wilderness area gaining 1600 ft in two miles. I plan on sleeping in the truck tonight and then hiking up to my spike camp area, ready camp, do some light elk scouting, and be ready for the Saturday opener. THESE ARE THE SENIOR MOMENTS I LOVE THE MOST.
MORE TO COME WHEN I RETURN. Good luck on your hunts this season. My best, Paul
Paul, have fun and best of luck to you!!!
Wishing you a great hunt Paul. Looking forward to your hunt stories...
Shoot em straight

Just remember, Paul - you’re not REALLY old until the draw weight on your heaviest bow is a higher number than your age.
;)
Of course, my Grandma used to say if you’re still in double digits, you’re still just a kid!
Ok, I am heading out the door. For those who "want to be just like me". You better talk to Tricia first. :) LOL. Thanks for all of the kind comments and encouragement.
Part 2 is in the near future. Paul
Best of luck and a safe trip.
Dang it Paul, you keep me going and I am a bit older than you but not near the shape that you are in to do what you do. You have inspired me for quite some time so take good care of yourself up there and great hunting to you........Bob
This thread has almost as many posts as you are old.................jus' sayin' ;) Best of all best wishes to you SIR! You've earned it time and time again.
I had the good fortune of meeting Paul@thefort this past April in Omaha at the P&Y Convention. Believe me, this man is not "a senior moment." He is slim, trim and ready for any mountain. He is a "Western Gentleman" by all measures.
I hope I still have it like he does when I get to be his age. He is a true inspiration!
Paul, best of luck this season.
Can’t wait for Part II Paul...
The best to you Paul.
Be safe, hunt well.
Have a great hunt and good luck! It was a pleasure meeting you at the Omaha P&Y.
You are the man!!! I dont know you at all but I certainly admire what you are still doing at an age when most have given up hunting completely. Good luck and have fun.
Good luck Paul! Looking forward to reading all about it!
Atta boy! A few years behind you but understand the senior moment.
Hope you kill a biggun Paul - you’re an inspiration for sure!
Paul you are Da'Man!!!! Anytime I open a thread you start I have a smile. You always bring out the good, never complaining. The one person who I most hoped to meet in St. Louis, at my only Pope and Young you have a great time, be safe and I can hardly wait for your write up!
Hunt safe, my friend. As always, live every day like it's your last. You are an inspiration to us all!
Looking forward to Part 2.....in case you forgot why we are all posting responses….LOL
Have fun and be safe Pau

I will always remember the time I bumped into you and was honored to help you pack out your elk and camp. That was many years ago, and you're still cranking right along. Truly inspired by you. Enjoy elk camp 2019!
Good luck Paul! At 71 and after 29 elk hunts I'll be hunting antelope, their easier to pack out!
