Just day dreaming before I leave, but if any of you early guys get one post it up!
Good Luck Matt... Can't wait to hear how your hunt goes with the new owners. Assuming your heading back with Papa Bear?
Thanks Harlin & Danny. Yep...#4
New owners... huh that’s news to me.
Be there tomorrow night!! Wont sleep a wink tonight!!
Leaving on the 21st for the long drive north to Watson lake. From there we fly back into BC to a lake for 10 days of hunting rut moose!!! Super excited!!!!
Boarding for Fairbanks in 5 minutes. Lots of miles and work next 3 days. Then.....blissful backcountry.
I Look forward to your pictures Kevin. Good luck.
Some cool dude from Nebraska got the middle seat next to me.....Chicago to Anchorage. Wow.... The people you meet!
Good luck to everyone that’s going! I luv me some moose hunting!!
I don't have a pic, but just found out one of my friends who is up with my usual hunting partners just shot one this morning. It is his first moose ever, just a fork horn, but he is happy as a clam!!
Forgot to mention, that I leave Tuesday to go join my friends for 10 days of hunting.
I heard of a good 62" bull going down with a rifle.
Colorado moose.Opening day. 18 yard shot. Double lung pass thru. She took 3 steps and fell over
On the board! Congrats! That's gonna be some fine table fare right there!
Congrats! She's going to be some awesome eatin'!
Way to go Coyote! Hadda be a thrill. Meat will be great.
Congrats on your cow, COHOYT!
And since this is a meat pole thread, this is what it's all about!

Colorado Sunday evening Sept 8. After applying 30 years for a bull tag without drawing I said screw it and put in for a cow this year. Couldn't be happier. I don't have another 30 years to wait!
Lark Bunting, my beautiful lady and Stoneman
Lark Bunting, my beautiful lady and Stoneman
Colorado 8:34am opening day, 42 yard shot, fell 10 yards from the shot. Ending up having more help than I could have ever asked for. Big shout out to Stoneman and Lark Bunting as well as the local CPW wardens up there who not only helped with the skinning process but loading up her quarters into their UTV and dropping them off at the truck! Unheard of
I ended up shooting my first moose (62") with a rifle! Got to sit next to this moose hunting beast for a 6 hour flight to alaska!
I scored on my first moose 9/2, rifle kill.
Tanner let’s hear the details. How was Papa Bear? How was the weather and rutting. Yes
These are rifle kills so if ya dont like it you better close your eyes for a bit haha. Weather was pretty good for the days we hunted, little breezy and rainy, which was obviously perfect for our hunt! Started out calling and raking alot the day we got dropped off. Next morning we were hiking through a meadow into a small line of willows and caught something out of corner of my eye and realized it was a big bull in bow range, bad part is he was directly down wind and busted us and took off running, I knew he was big so I made the decision to switch to a rifle for my very first bull! In hindsight, if I wouldve known how fast we would have tagged out I would have held out with my bow!
Great bulls guys. You show why it takes 2-3 years to get a drop hunt booked with Papa Bear or Wade Renfro.
Awesome !! Sore backs for all involved I guarantee.
Congrats on some great bulls, guys!
Here's another one for the meat pole....took this bull on 9/09 in the NWT. The bulls at that time were just starting to rut.....cruising but not yet with cows. This one had already been fighting some, with a few freshly busted tips on the palms. About a 40 yard shot and a 75-yard recovery.
Red tent to the right, decoy to the left.
Red tent to the right, decoy to the left.
Not the biggest, but being within 100 yards of my dropoff point and me hunting solo sealed his fate. Pretty much shot him from my tent (which you can see in the background along with the moose decoy he had a deadly obsession with). Called the night before since I couldn't hunt that day anyway, woke up, took a leak and heard grunting coming from behind me. Walked right past me on his way to the decoy. Quickest moose hunt ever. Loaded him in the plane the same day and was back at my buddies lodge that night.
Nick that bull has great brows. No question he was legal! Congratulations to you and your partners.
Man what a thread so far!! Some great bulls guys, congrats and thanks for sharing!
I leave on Saturday to start the journey north. Picking up 2 buddies in Alberta and then heading to the Yukon to fly back into Northern BC for an 11 day hunt on a fly-in lake. We have an inflatable boat and canoe and going to be 3 of us trying to get it done with a bow and will also have a rifle or two along. This thread is keeping the dream alive and passing the time until we head north!
My once in a lifetime Colorado bull moose
ERMINE!! Holy Crap! Thats a helluva Shiras!!! Congrats!!!
Beautiful monster Shiras bull Ermine. Congrats!
Unreal bud, congrats again on one hell of a bull!

Wow, what a bull, Ermine! Congrats on making the most of your OIL tag!
Congrats! Can't wait to see what he tapes at for B&C and P&Y. Sandbrew
Congrats on all the moose. Ermine that is a beast!
Ermine you weren’t messing around, that is a whopper of a bull. Great job and congrats on that monster Shiras. Good luck on your upcoming hunt as well.
Hell of a Shiras!!! Congrats Ermine!
Some great bulls so far save a spot for me. We leave tonight for Maine. I am super pumped as this is our first moose hunt. Will be three generations on this hunt to make it even better!
Nice Shiras, Justin! Congratulations!
Holy Crap Ermine! That's a dandy! Congrats!
Great bulls guys! Ermine...That thing is a beast of a Shiras.
Spectacular bull, Ermine! Hell of a Shiras!
Congratulations!
Hell, now go put the cherry on top of your hunting season of a lifetime!
Good luck and shoot straight!
Colorado Bull Moose I have a thread in the CO state with the long story if you want to check it out.
Those look tasty congrats all beautiful animals.
Grats guys. Damn Ermine, that's a Hell of a lower 48 bull. And looks like he died in a real convenient place to cut him up too.
Some beautiful bulls! Mine is rifle also. Alaska solo fly in.
Nothing like killing a moose with a bow. Congrats everyone
DonV, glad it all came together for ya. Great bull !!!
Don I told you you’d do well with them. That’s a dandy bull! You have been doing research for what.... three years? All you had to do is ask and have faith. I’d like to hear more about your hunt. Send me a nice long PM if you don’t mind.
Moose backstraps ready for the grill and some grizzly bear ham with cheese.
Nice Old Goat.
Nick that’s better than dinner at the Turtle Club!!!
Big Congrats Ermine and oldgoat!! Ermine, that is one heck of a Colorado Shiras bull!
59 lb Lonesome Wind Mortifera Longbow. Easton 2117 with Zwickey No Mercy single bevel 165gr up front.
This is the 3rd Moose tag my father has drawn in Montana in his life. We hunted really hard and hadn't seen a moose for 5 days and I finally called in this old bull with the "Bisquick" jug (42 inch spread). It worked great and he came into 20 yards and tried to circle downwind. It's a rifle kill but I could have shot him with my bow but it took over an hour to get him to commit. Bull grunts, cow calls, limb breaking and raking the bisquick jug:)
Missed this thread. Congrats to all of you guys!
Third day of the Maine moose season I connected with this bull. Yes it was a rifle kill. Three generations present when I shot this bull. Special thanks to Maine Experience Guide Service!
I had a very bad mishap in moose camp that you guys will hear about at a later date because why hide something... but we did connect on an awesome bull 5 minutes left on the last night. Couldn’t be happier for Brad.
My 2019 bull, fly in northern Manitoba, forth morning of a 9 day hunt, 40 yard shot, 100 yard recovery, , fmj, exodus, realmx combo
Died in the bog, in the sun, luckily only a couple hundred yard pack job to the boat
Some nice moose guys congrats!
My good buddy Greg on our last evening of the hunt, his first bow kill, expertly called in to 11 yards by rattling junkie
My NWT bull from last week. Called him in to 45 yards on the second day of our hunt.
I knew better than to check this thread. I am missing moose hunting!
I guided 81 year old Larry....his 4th P&Y bull...shot at 8 yards with a 50 pound G5 Prime bow...called the bull in from over a mile away gunting for over 45 minutes....the set up brought the bull in to walk right in front of Larry's 3 shooting lanes...

I was focused on elk hunting when I ran into this bull in a steep river valley. I first heard him grunt at me while I was fighting my way through some thick brush. When I heard it I thought, “I hope he’s not big because I don’t want to shoot a moose down in here!” Well he was too big to not shoot. I called back to him like I was a cow moose and walked right up to him, 30 yds. Always nice to have an over the counter moose tag in your pocket just in case. Archery kill, you can barely see my bow in the pic.
My first Iron Will moose!
My first Iron Will moose!
I wanted to try these broadheads on some bigger critters, very sharp, rugged, chopped a rib in half on the way in, hit back of both lungs, stopped just after poking through hide on other side and the bull only went 60 yds. 510 grain Victory xtorsion arrow out of a 72 lb Hoyt Defiant, but not a complete pass through. Not sure why? Arrow flight looks great. Same thing happened with an elk.
Nice moose mike, I've had the same thing happen from time to time, close to the same set up as you, 485gr fmj arrow, exodus bh 70lb realmX, this year elk at 25 yards, broadhead was poking the hide on the far side, this years moose at 40 arrow blew through taking out ribs, last years moose no exit either at 40 yards
Mike, congrats on the bull.
if your not busy, run the arrow over a crono and calculate your momentum.
Maybe those cams are not putting enough cast into the arrow. Or the Arrow is flexing or in some way not driving straight at impact.
At that arrow and bow weight and BH choice, it does seem like you should have a pass through.
I guess With compounds they call it “dynamic efficiency”
Companies use a 540 grain arrow for the measurement.
Thanks for the tips guys! My arrow shoots 245 ft/sec, slow by today's standards but what do you expect at 510 grains? The xtorsion arrow has stainless steel in it and doesn't seem to flex much, flies like a dart in a slow mo video but anyway, don't want to derail the moose meatpole, keep posting 'em!!
So467 - most likely that was a once in a lifetime trip so how about posting the details???
An 8 day hunt. I passed on some bigger till the end of the 6th day. I figured I better act or have no meat. 26 yards.

But great meat you shall have. Congrats!
New Found land 42 yard shot, complete pass through. 484 grain arrow, 125 grain 3 blade WAC-UM
Alberta, 20 yard shot with a 100 grain slick trick, buried to the fletching. Double lung and a 60 yard recovery. Best meat I have ever eaten!
I don't consider myself a meat hunter. But when it comes to moose, oh mama.
