So our Fall combo Wolf Bear Grouse hunt begins on the 15th of Sept..... Checked out our Bait sites and they are "Ripe" with activity. Hunters are mainly after a Wolf but if a nice bear gets in front of them, they say "Maybe" they will take it.
Every bait has wolves visiting. Here are the pics...
In the above pic, the wolf is running from a bunch of wasps. Why do I think that??? Because I saw Joe run past me. just as fast... when he filled the barrel, the Wasp's emerged from a hive in the barrel. LOL...

Right now things couldn't look better for the hunt this Sunday. Will have to see what kind of success the guy above will allow us!!!
Going to be 4 hunters, both Joe and I will also hunt for the wolves. Going to thin them out I hope....

This wolf from 2012 had a bad case of mange. Last wolf I have seen with the parasite.

This one has a few colours to it. Nice coat also.... every once in a while someone says they saw a Cougar around here. I ask them, what were they drinking when they saw this so called Cougar??? I say they saw a mangy wolf with no hair and a bald tail!! If there were cougars here, my many cams would get a pic or 2 of them. Still waiting for a pic of bigfoot!!

Hunt starts this afternoon.... 4 hunters and Joe and I have a total of 12 wolf tags available. Along with 5 bear tags. It will be an exciting hunt. Sunny this afternoon with hardly any wind.

Bou, just one bowhunter. A wolf bear hunt cost is $1450.00 plus $450.00 licenses. We mainly use the wolf hunt to control the population.

Update.... 2 wolves seen. No bears seen. No shots taken. Hunters arrived late so got out past prime time. Today will be different I hope.

My neighbor in WI started a bear bait several weeks ago with good success on several decent bears hitting it with occasional wolf pic. As of the past couple weeks though, the bear activity has all but ended but the wolf activity in nonstop. Anywhere from one to six wolves all times of the day. He had baited with granola and marshmallow bits and a cherry scent. I've bear hunted in MI and several places in Canada and other than a random wolf pic here and there was never an issue. He hasn't baited the site in several days and not sure it is worth it anymore. Any thoughts on why this bait is overrun with wolves? It's not like he is even putting that much bait out either. As I type this, the trail cam app is sending me one pic after another of them milling around, lol. I never seen anything like this. Thanks!

Todd108, I had the same thing happen to me today. Had 6 or more wolves howling all around me today. Yelping and chasing.... Had 2 walk right underneath me and I shot one "4 times" !!! He moved I shot!!! He was not getting away... WITH MY 45-70. Not much left of him.
After I gutted the wolf at the bait. Put the guts on the bait barrel for blood smell. Draped the wolf on a log. Went to my atv and all hell broke loose at the bait barrel!! 6 or more wolves were going crazy. I reloaded my gun Snuck back in and climbed my stand. Wolves were just barely out of sight . I called one to just behind the barrel... but darkness arrived. Drug the wolf to the road and went to get another hunter. Went back to the wolf to put the wolf on the atv and they were surrounding us and the dead wolf... NEVER seen this before. It was a cool experience!!!
I will be on the stand again tomorrow and KILL another. I have one tag left.

Update: one hunter had a whole pack come into his bait barrel.... he shot... we now have a dead barrel, no wolf. Another wolf was running the atv trail at 3:00 pm or so. Hunter went to pull the trigger and there was just a click. No wolf!! Lots of wolf activity!!

Got this guy tonight... same hunter that shot and missed the white wolf took this bear. We Gutted the bear next to the bait barrel, he died next to it. Dumped guts in the barrel and now site looks awesome to a hungry wolf. Be back again tomorrow!!

T-roy, this is our last week of bear hunters in camp. In a couple of weeks we will back Black Bear hunting in Burnsville North Carolina area. Western North Carolina. Season starts October 14th. Joe is going to try to bag his Bear using his bow. His main challenge will be not damaging his bow as he follows the hounds through the Appalacians. I hope to add a few bears on the 2019 Bear Success thread with some NC bears...

While waiting for the hunters to finish their hunt last Thursday I went for a long walk through the bush. Walked first to Sup Lake... a lake that Wilderness Air fly's in his fisherman. Then ventured over to Donalda Lake, another of Wilderness Air's Fly in's. Found a few new bear sites along the way.

We finished up our hunt on Friday eve. The road washed out on Saturday after another round of monsoon rains. 2 vehicles full of US fisherman were stuck on the other side. They eventually made it out via a different route, but heard it wasn't easy for them.
OMNRF says they will be putting in a low level water crossing soon.
We are booked for 2020 Spring and Fall.... We will be attending the Milwaukee, Chicago All Canada Shows. Also the Indiana Deer Turkey and Waterfowl Expo. We will be booking for the Fall 2021 season.
