9/17/2019 NJ 10 point. Only buck left in my area still in velvet. And it’s on there good. I have lots of history with this buck. I know his age. Anyone care to guess? The hunt was amazing. Had several 2.5 to 3.5 year old bucks acting very frisky with light sparring. At one point they started acting very nervous and squirly. Although I had not seen this buck on any cameras for 9 days I could feel his presence through the other deer. When He stepped out around 6:15 pm the bucks scattered as if they were shot at. This guy ruled the roost!

Thanks guys. As for age - I last saw him during a hunt in 2016 when he was already showing signs of being a real bully at what I believe was age 2 1/2. Certainly no younger than that. 2017 he basically became a ten nearly identical to the buck you see here. He actually may have been a little wider then. 2018 same buck maybe an inch less wide but more mass. This year same buck again just more mass and a 1/2” sticker on his right G3. He tore his right ear bad in two places near end of rut 2017 as you can see in this pic. . Again always getting pics never seeing during a hunt. So I have him right at 5 1/2. Will send out teeth to check. He dressed out at 170#. When I have time I will add his older pics from 2016 as an 8 point through last season.

Thick bodied deer. Congrats on the buck, Jack! Weird that he was still holding velvet as it seems like the older and bigger ones around me are usually the first to get it off unless they are injured.

Yep I’ll guess 114” and 2.5 years old. A deer with missing ear tags usually hits 114” on their first or second rack. ;)

Congrats on a great buck, Jack! Any thoughts as to why he was still in velvet this late? Shed his antlers later than the other deer, possibly?

Great looking buck, congratulations. Always fun when you can track one over the years and finally take him when he's mature.Curious as to whether he held onto his velvet this late in years past?

“Curious as to whether he held onto his velvet this late in years past?”. Tomorrow I am going g to have time to dig up all my intel on this buck going back to 2016. Hell maybe I can find him in 2015 too just never tried. I seem to recall him always being one of the last to shed but I will confirm. If not and this is first year he held fuzz this late - it could be that he is a lot older than 5.5 and perhaps he is having Low -T issues. As many of you may know - the older ya get the longer it takes to get “hard”.

Jack Harris's Link
If you love pictorials of the same buck 4 years in a row, to see the evolution and history, I spent hours putting this together. It pretty much proves the age of my buck at 5.5, but would love to hear your thoughts. You should be able to view this link even if not a member.

for Sticksender "Curious as to whether he held onto his velvet this late in years past?" Yes if you look at the link above where I chronical (in great detail probably too much for most), when he lost his fuzz last year, and when he lost his antlers in winter, etc. In 2018 I have him fuzzy on 9/14 where the other bucks were not, then 9/22 he was completely smooth/hard. So suffice to say, he was probably a few days it starting to fall off although man it's on there pretty good.
