Bid it up for the......Pheasants???? 50% of your funds over the $85k earmark for WSF will go to private landowners to improve their private pheasant hunting preserves. Bid it up boys! Do it for the private landowners! Current bid is only $150k. Keep in mind when bidding that the rumor on the street is the world record ram was already taken in the unit....and I'm not talking about the Miller ram.

Too bad she isn't single. I'd have bid the farm just to meet her.

Met the young man that killed this Ram at the B&C Convention. Great story of a regular guy getting a tag and then the World Record.

200k plus for a sheep tag with 85k going to sheep and the rest going to Chinese chickens. What a crime.

In case anyone else wants a little more color...man this burns my bottom worse than midnight tacos from Jack in the Box. We were there, we listened, we had folks testify, made phone calls, sent emails, we had momentum, and WSF leadership stood in front of the commission and torpedo’d us in the 11th hour. “We’re happy with whatever. It’s a win-win.” Then had their buddies in state government change the damn minutes in the public record!!!! Corruption at it’s finest.

Yup, you want to shoot a 200” tame ram this is your hunt! You probably won’t have to walk far from the car either!

Justin if you post that description on the auction site the Chinese chickens will get another 50k at least.

Once you get to $85k none of the rest matters unless of course you’re a friend of the Governor on the “landowner list” to receive the funds!

Pheasant hunting is the "cash crop" in the Dakotas. That dollar will drive any and all thought.....they should change the name to "Pheasants First". Skip the "Forever".

Brotsky, who were the leaders that torpedoed your effort? Be nice to not vote for them when the board elections come around...

$312,000.00 wow.

Hoot, specifically Kevin Hurley, VP for conservation/ops and board member Wayne Henderson.
Henderson is also a lodge owner/outfitter that stands to benefit directly from the proceeds of the 2nd Century Habitat Initiative. Maybe the WSF should answer why a board member testified against more funds going directly to the benefit of sheep in such an obvious situation of conflicting interest? The total lack of ethics here is disgusting.

Tag sold for $312k. That’s $85k for sheep and $114k for private landowners to use to bolster habitat for their pay to hunt pheasant operations. The other $114k goes to improvements on public lands to benefit deer and upland game primarily.

If it had to be split the extra money should go something like 50 50 with that money going to plot land or land rented for open to public hunting. For every income to enjoy. But all they want is that out of state income. Ridiculous

Looks like a good way to raise money for wildlife. And yes I know some rich guy will get the tag. I’m ok with that. Presumably he earned the money. I’m not a rich person basher or jealous of them.

Dale, I don't think anyone disputes the fact it's a great way to raise money for wildlife. Cause it certainly is. The issue is that it should all go back to sheep, not ditch parrots.

I am not for auction tag money going to Chinese chickens

Hoot, outstanding choice.
Well said Nick, that is the issue. Sheep money should be used for sheep and sheep habitat.

Complicated issues there. Glad it raised the money it did
All states that have sheep have the same issues as SD

RK, other states use funds from the auction of sheep tags to fund programs for private landowners that do not provide public hunting opportunities? If so that is news to me.
