Same buck?

Last year I hunted hard for this buck at the south pasture blind. I had him at 15 but waited for an ethical shot that never materialized.
2019. Same buck?
2019. Same buck?
Kent just sent me this pic and there’s a debate if it’s the same buck. Same south pasture blind.
What do you think?
My guess is. No, not the same
I think so..... Going down hill with age.
I’d agree and say it is a different buck. Main beam on the left doesn’t come around as far to me
I find it hard to believe he'd lose that much even if he was going down hill. I'm sure from the same gene pool, but I'd say different deer.
I guess the same buck, rack looks a little bigger last year though... If not the same buck, I'd bet they are genetically linked...
I think it's a different buck too. I say shoot him and see if the other one shows up later! Two nice deer either way.
No unless you accidentally swapped the pictures above.
No....too many differences. Many things dont line up imo
I don't think so either. The first thing I look for is the brow tines. They don't change much year after year. This one is close but I still vote no.
Brow tines tell it all
Not the same Buck
Great pics on both of them
He has similar traits as the 1st buck but I don`t think it is. I would think buck#1 would grow more stickers on his way "down".
If it’s the same deer, he sure lost a lot in a year. I’ma guess the second deer is a son of the first...
That’s hunting and you are commentated for waiting for an ethical shot. You will be rewarded this year. Even if a genetically similar deer, it will look great on the wall.
Im with the not the same deer crowd
If it is he's getting old and losing length, but base mass is still high. Same characteristics mostly though. He looks like the same deer. Did you find his sheds last year? If you get him it would be great to compare them, that would tell. Burrs would be the same.
Possible but can't tell from just those 2 pics. To know for sure you really need some clear daytime pics from both years, showing the face and antler features more clearly.
So hard to say with the grainy 2018 photo. Assuming the buck is going downhill, which it looks like he could be the only difference is the stickers on his right G2 moving to G3. Other than that he still has a sticker on left G2, still has something coming off base of right brow, still has same curvature to all tines, and is in the same spot. Looks like an old buck in the second pic, has the mass, personally I'd think it's the same buck.
Prob where I'd lean to the guy who knows the deer there. How many "similar" bucks are going to be running around there? The mass and height are those of a mature buck. If it's a different buck, I'm assuming Kent may know of a different younger buck he thinks this one now is?
My guess is Kent sent you the pic because it's the buck you were hunting last year, and he wanted to show it to you because of your interest in the buck, which means Kent thinks it's the same buck. I tend to agree with him and think it's the same buck. Or I could be way off! lol
I don't think they are the same. G3 on both sides is what I'm basing it on.
Pretty sure buck on left is the buck in the 2019 pic above
Pretty sure buck on left is the buck in the 2019 pic above
I think you guys are right. The buck on the left is the one above, not the bigger buck. He’s not shown up yet.
Kent just sent me this pic from last year and I forgot about that other buck. I passed on him last year.
My gut was different deer... same mom.
Now, where's the BIG guy?
Well way to hold out on us. I was half right ;) Figured he might have a pic of the other buck if it was younger. Obviously similar genetics. Boy you can sure see a lot more trash from this angle on that bigger one. What a beaut.
Pretty good bucks for NY deer. Nice!
The second buck needs to hit the corn piles more.
:-)

Yep, if you dump it, they will come. Makes for great video...
Matt
Shoot one, either one would make a good Bloodtrail Challenge!
They look genetically linked...
