This was my 2nd buck with a bow ever. Went out in the wind and cold on Saturday afternoon. Just about the time I was saying to myself "screw this I'm cold" I look up and a buck had come in off the field and on to the trail in front of me. He took a few steps paused and allowed me to stand up and draw. He was slightly quartering toward me and shot him at 18 yards and he only went about 50. Weighed 166 lbs and we got 39 lbs of meat off of him. Thickest neck and the thickest fat I've ever seen on a deer, he was definitely eating well and getting ready for winter. Equipment used: Hoyt Charger 65 lb draw, Carbon Express Maxima Hunter 350 arrows, 125 gr NAP Hellrazr Broadheads, and Nockturnal Green Nock.

I know he's not huge but what would he score roughly?

Great buck. Don’t worry about score. He scores dead and in your freezer . Congrats on some fine table fare for you and your family. Hunt

Thank you all, I just asked about score just because I was curious, it doesn't matter to me at all.

39 pounds of meat. I'm sure if we got super thorough we could have gotten a little more.

You must be doing something right.....2 for 2 isn`t easy. Hunt the way you want to hunt, don`t worry about what others think. Good job.

Nice job! That's awesome! But I'm curious as well....only 39lbs? Seems a bit low? You cut up yourself?

From: VogieMN

Yes I'm certain it was 39 pounds, we weighed it. We cut it up ourselves. We didn't get every single piece of meat off, my dad doesn't like to mess around getting the meat off the ribs. He normally leaves the neck meat but I took the neck meat off because this deer had a THICK neck. I bet I got at least 5 pounds of meat just off his neck.

I'd really like to see others and how they process their own deer, I've only ever watched my dad do it and he leaves a fair amount still on the carcass.

Congrats on your success. Can't eat the Antlers but probably within 5 pts if 100 either way. Enjoy the great meat!

I've butchered hundreds of deer and that's about the right amount of meat for a deer that size. I'd definetly be sure to take the neck meat off of ANY deer. Even on a doe, that's several pounds of good roast or burger meat!

Congrats in a nice quick kill!
