OnX and Samsung

Anyone have trouble with the compass and navigation when using OnX and a Samsung phone? My compass is wildly inaccurate, often spinning. I've done all I can to calibrate the compass and even went so far as to purchase a new phone. Went from an S7 to an S9. I have contacted OnX and they are working with me, but thus far, no results. Was in AZ in Sept for an elk hunt and the app was unusable for navigation. Fortunately, I had my inreach and earthmate I could rely on. Since downloaded compass apps and my earthmate work fine, it's hard to believe it's something unique to my phone.

I have the s9 and onx works fine for me. I've never tried using the compass to walk step by step to go somewhere. I've always got an idea of the direction I want to travel and just glance at the map from time to time to see if I'm going the beat route. My experience with all gps devices will bounce around some, not a real issue if you kinda know your directions.

I wish it just 'bounced around some'. It is frequently off by 60-90 degrees. Very frustrating.

Try holding ur phone at different angles. If that works, come back and let us know. That helped me. I have a j7 phone. Ed

Thanks Ed. It does seem to work better if I hold it in a vertical position. When using the "go to" function, it is still off about 10 deg compared to my earthmate, but at least the compass is now stable. I'll relay this finding to OnX.

I had troubles when double tapping the location so I could see which way I was walking. It was saying I was walking the opposite way and spinning as well. I then just watched my location for travel. Also S7

I was a little disappointed this year when I couldn't add OnX as one of the apps I use when in battery saver mode. I got some message saying it wasn't compatible or something to that effect. I ended up not really using it because of that.

My Samsung J7 had issues until I realized it was the way I was holding the phone. After that I had no problems, and the On X worked well. Would take me in "Go To" right where I wanted to go.
JLeMieux, cant you of just left it in regular mode but, put it in air plane mode. That will save batteries. But u would of had to down load ur hunting areas maps before hand. Thats easy to do. What phone u got? Ed

It's an S7. Yes I could have done that. My partner had it on his phone and I have topo and property boundaries on my GPS, so we just used the two. It was disappointing in that it was my "new toy", but did not really affect our hunting.

Yeah, I had issues also, but with my LG G5. It was also about 60-90 degrees off on the compass. I tested with other GPS/Compass apps, etc. and ONx could not figure it out.
They did work alot with me and followed up on the fix; however, I think it comes down to operating system and hardware coordination. My phone is almost 4 years old and may be time for a new one and hope the app works better.

Your compass needs to be calibrated. It's not an Onx issue. Usually have to do figure eights with the phone. As far as the the battery saver issue mentioned, use airplane mode.

if it is a compass calibration issue why did compass work perfectly in earthmate at same time?

Ever since I did the 'update' three weeks ago, onx has had operational issues

Mine works fine. I have an S10. Every once in a while my compass is way off but after doing a few figure 8s with it seems to go back to normal.
