I didn't waste any time getting to Kansas. The previous hunters are all tagged out with record book bucks and Kent invited me here early. I already did the morning hunt and saw 15 different bucks including two shooters and 3 buck fights! So it's on!
I'm hunting a giant this year. They have several booners on cam this year.
Good luck Pat this is always fun to follow knowing the caliber of bucks they have in their area. Who’s joining you?
I saw 6 doe this morning... Have fun
This is the buck I’m after here.
This is the buck I’m after here.
Two Bowsite guys are coming Saturday. I’ve not asked their permission to post their names yet. They are new to CRO this year.
And yes, that’s a corn pile. Get over it. They bait here. If you want to debate the pros and cons of baiting please start a new thread rather than cluttering up this one.
Thank you in advance.
Good luck Pat, should be a good week !!
Looks like a damn Texas buck. Good luck Pat!
Good luck Pat looks like great timing Lewis
Might even qualify as a Texas size corn pile.
You can post away Pat. I’ll see you Saturday. If you don’t tag out by then. Good luck
Thanks Leo, safe travels.
i love these live hunt reports, second to NONE! keep up the awesome work (FUN) !
I just hope, for your sake, that the corn is, at least non-GMO!
Good luck ;-)
This will be epic. Go get em’
One musketeer is on the property hunting- where are the other 2 musketeers?
Best of luck on a great hunt. Hunt hard and hunt safe.
Charlie I see what you did there. “Tine”
That wasn't a typo, was it Charlie....lol.
The left antler is a giant but the right antler has a "dwarf" G2 or it's busted off.
Good buck either way...….."Pile it high and they will come" Corn Field of Dreams
Nice buck and they do bait in Kansas but not everyone!! Hope everyone shoots a giant, best of luck!! Shawn
Do you rattle and call on this hunt given that it is peak rut
Leaving at 6am. No sleep tonight. Hahahahha
You passed a MATURE spike in range? What the .....
As much as you HATE coyotes, instead of swapping out arrows, I would think you’d simply re-assign your #1 to coyote duty.
That thought crossed my mind
Just passed a mature 10. He’ll be a 170 next year
I used to do the ol arrow swap for coyotes till it costed me a coyote. Now #1 flies no matter what.
Good luck
We are locked down bad here.
Boubound x2. I rattled a real nice buck in this morning from the ground in the black hills of South Dakota. Unfortunately he circled and winded me. It's worth a shot to tickle the tines though.
I can see why you wouldn't though because usually you are just educating deer. Like I did today and Kent probably doesn't want that. Either way, good luck.
he just realized its been several months, not weeks, since CF re-intro due?
or, the mathews flagship demo loaner just got dry-fired in camp, again
......this could be good!
big boy down.................congrats
did you see a wold? Short haired, im sure.
You can't just " holy crap" someone and leave them hanging.
^^^ This...Lol
Is there a age restriction on Bucks at CRO?
I think SitO snuck in and crapped in Pat's corn pile!!
The neighbor just got a decent one there that dressed in at 220lbs. The thing is pretty big.
Congrats on another great buck . I’d like to see a pic of all your deer mounts you’ve done a live hunt with over the years.
Pat, Congrats on 2 great bucks. Just a couple of questions and feel free to pass on these if you want. I am curious what you do with all that venison? Do you take some and donate the rest or take it all, or donate it all? Secondly, I'm sure you have a ton of nice bucks and racks from years of hunting. What do you do with bucks like these? Do you do Euro's, shoulder mounts or just take the antlers for a later use? Thanks.
You are becoming as lethal and predictably consistent in taking tremendous bucks as lee Lakosky. Very impressive. Piling up the monster bucks annually is a real accomplishment. Might as well go to Illinois on the way back and shoot another It’s on the way back. Charlie knows where to go there. Congrats.
Hard to tell by pictures provided, but I suspect that’s a 4.5 yo, although possibly 3.5.
Well done again Pat! Congrats on your buck!
Congratulations Pat on a great buck. The other Bowsiter arrived last night. I’m sitting in the tree belt right now. It’s the same spot that I saw multiple bucks from last evening. I heard an intense fight going on last night. I mean these 2 were absolutely hammering each other.
Didn’t you notice the broken tine and crab claws? Lee Lakosky wouldn’t look twice at that buck. Put it on his watch list for a ranch hand management buck if those crab claws don’t disappear in one or two years.
Congrats on two great buck!! Well done!
Leo must have killed one also !!!
Nice shooting Pat!
I would shoot that buck in a heartbeat. That being said, I am a bit surprised you killed him. Not even close to your target buck. Congratulations nonetheless! Thanks for sharing. I am also curious why the other two stooges didn't make it this time.
Congrats on a successful hunt
I have done that 3 times. Hate the feeling from high to low as you realize it's the wrong buck
You're on a roll with great bucks,congratulations!!
That pic with the deer doing the bucking horse jump and the clearly bloodied arrow underneath is a beauty!
Fantastic, Two great bucks, both self videoed and just a few days apart. Congrats! C
Leo shot a beauty this AM but I'll let him post the photos. Perfect shot and only went 30 yards!
Forest, I know the feeling. I had does under me and could only video the buck's approach from a distance. He has more mass than my target buck and he also had a kicker on his left G2 - same as my target buck. Tines and configuration looked similar - from a distance. The target buck was at that stand last night so I was convinced it was the same buck. As he approached, I was in kill mode. Did not look at the antlers once as he got close. Had I been able to pull my binocs up I would have noticed that broken g3 and passed him up. But, I never looked since I was sure it was him. I concentrated on the shot and I hammered him.
Am I disappointed with the buck? Not at all. He's a great buck. Do I feel a little stupid? Absolutely. As to his age, nobody here thinks he's 3.5. The general consensus is 5.5. If you see his rack and how beaded and massive it is you would agree. Regardless, we will find out as I popped his tooth and will be sending to DeerAge.com.
Now for the best part. I got to hunt yotes this morning and successfully called in one. That little bastard no longer walks the earth! And I'm going back out to kill some more.
What a great hunt!
Congrats Pat, you are doing great. The picture of the buck up in the air reminded me of Saturday morning when I made two orphans. I put a bolt through an old doe and she did that jump. I knew instantly that she was dead on her feet. Only went 40 yards and that was 71 that died from a Jak Hammer expandable broadhead. Ray Charles could have followed the blood trails. Both sides and down the middle from her nose. That was my target deer and have passed bucks to get her. I can't draw my compound any more so I went to a Ravin crossbow. I can't even play music any more due to cramps in my hands. Having deer heart stew for supper. I love a crock pot.
Way to go Pat, great Buck...
Congrats Pat on a great buck and a shitty coyote kill em all job well done Lewis
This morning was eventful to say the least. I had deer right from the beginning coming and going. Around 830 I look to my right and there he is standing 20 yards away. I had no idea how he got there. I also was not expecting a deer from that angle. I had to turn completely around and try to draw. Only problem was my safety harness was stuck around my left shoulder. The tree I was in was to large to tie my safety strap to so I had to tie in to the lifeline which was way off my shoulder and low. I saw the big wide frame and stood up to grab my bow and kneeled down to take tension off my harness. By now he’s at 7 yards. I draw and aim in one motion and watch my arrow disappear into his chest. He runs 30 yards and falls. That’s when I had to sit down. Keep in mind this all happened in less than 30 seconds from seeing to watching him fall. Thanks for having me kent and clay.
I was just coming on here to ask about the other guys hunting... congratulations Pat.. and Leo..
I get this whole place to myself now lol. I might be picky and hold out for a giant now.
Saved the best for last go get em Sean
Way to go Leo! Kansas will now be an annual hunt. Enjoy!
Congrats guys. Super bucks !
Need better trophy pics......come on guys.
Boy if I had a chance at something with a broken G3 would kick myself for not passing. :( :( :(
The one he shot looks nothing like the one he was after pictured above.
Big woods hunter. Thanks for pointing that out. It was an amazing pile actually. I didn’t even have to use the ladder to climb down. I would just pitch down off my platform and land in a nice fluffy cloud of corn. You should try it sometime
Great buck Pat. Congratulations on self filming too!
-Jeff
great deer leo. well done
Congrats Pat and Leo. Thanks for sharing your Hunt and pics.
Sean, how are you able to type on your phone? It's crazy cold and windy here. Glad you took my boots?
Hang in there Sean you know he’s coming. Just be there when he shows up
Thanks Guys. It was a great trip. Kent and clay were amazing hosts. Hope to be invited back someday but until then these memories will stick with me forever. I drive to my Illinois lease yesterday. Sitting in a tree right now. It’s 3 degrees out. Ouch.

Pat,
Congratulations and thank you for sharing your hunt! Which Sitka jacket are you wearing for your outer layer in your success picture with your fine buck?
Sean,
Last night I had zero pictures of deer using my small bean/rye grain plot at home. I have deer every night usually. I think they are in lock down for sure right now. At least in my area. And there were none at the gravity feeder with corn, again, very unusual. As those does finish breeding we should start seeing the action pick up again. Hang tough, it will happen. I know you know that, just trying to encourage you sir.
Will the videos to the hunts be posted?
Big wood. I doubt there is anyway Leo would be able to do anything to your post. Just not set up that way.
Sure you even got it posted ?
If it was a snarky post like your last one it's good to know someone dumped it.
Big woods hunter how would I be able to delete your post? Scroll up it’s still there. Do you actually think I care about what some stranger in the internet thinks. Let Alone someone from Massachusetts
lol. Don’t skip the question!!! Explain the challenge of shooting deer over 100# of corn? I’m honestly curious.
First of all it’s way more than 100 pounds. Don’t insult me. 500 pounds is my minimum for hunting over. I’ll explain it to you when you explain why Something a stranger on the internet does bothers you so much.
Big

It’s really easy.
Sean are they moving mid day at all? How many more days do you have to hunt
Hang in there!! Hope it happens soon for you!!
I've got you all beat...I actually sit in it;)
Congrats on some great deer guys and good luck Sean. It'll happen!
Congrats Pat and Leo! Good luck Sean!
Lmao!!! Some of you guys worry way to much about other people. Congrats on some great deer and good luck Sean
Any moment Sean! Believe!
Nice bucks guys- Congrats! Hang in there Sean...............................pulling for ya!
ANd just ignore the "static"! Does anyone think a pile of corn(even a BIG one) will have any effect on a buck in the PEAK of the RUT?!
Hey Sean
Just curious. Are you seeing coyotes on you sits?
For that matter Does anyone think a pile of corn(even a BIG one) will have any effect on a doe in the PEAK of the RUT?! Let it go and celebrate a pair of very large deer being taken by fellow Bowhunter’s.
Hey Sean. We better start paying rent because we’ve been living in some of these haters minds all week. Good luck man
Great Job Leo! Good Luck Sean D!
Grey Ghost. I completely understand. I just love hunting. I left Kansas and went to Illinois where I sat 3 days over natural funnels and saw some great deer. No shots. Of course baiting gives hunters an advantage. I dont deny that. I just dont have a problem with it. I don’t claim to be some super hunter. The guys that deserve the credit are kent and clay. They put countless hours in. I was just fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time.
I’m with you Leo !!! Way to go on a buck of a lifetime !!!
Sean
I was wondering about the coyote activity up there when the deer are slow vs here.
When our deer go underground so do our predators. Don't see coyote-fox-cats and even the hawks and eagles are not as active
Good luck tomorrow. Knock it out early!!
Great Buck, way to get it done...
Pat great video. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! That's pretty dang footage and shooting for self filming.
Thanks for your honesty. It has happened to me, and it is a terrible feeling. Sorry!
Sorry Sean, that sucks. It's a tough thing but something we've all likely gone through.
thanks for taking us along with you
You did your best. Good luck on the next hunt. Sounds like he may be fine.
Nice deer gentlemen! Pat no stabilizer or back bar on that new Mathews?
