How does he hold his head up. Or did he hold his head up back when he needed to. It’s not an issue for him any more.

Found local newspaper article attached of the top buck written by my daughter's brother-in-law... I don't know the hunter but occasionally see the author (sometimes bird shoot/hunt with him) and at family events... Next time I see him will ask about the buck...

First one looks a bit like the Eli Hoffstetter buck, from the first issue of NA Whitetail (which I have). Confiscated by Ohio F&G, but still my favorite buck of all time.

All these are enormous, I sure would like to see one like that someday, but probably won't happen in NY.

Its a T county buck..a good buddy sent it to me a month ago. The guy shot it down near my buddies parents place and he hunts down that way. Amazing buck!

The buck big posted has been around for ages. That was circulating 3-4 years ago.

RIT - That first buck posted was killed last month, see the link...

Don't know the hunter, but congratulations to him... All I can say is he has a lot of willpower to keep quiet about a 200+" buck for a couple years, news of a buck of that caliber travels wide and far around here...

Hey TrapperKayak , I actually have had my hands on the Eli Hoffstetter buck's rack, yeah really magnificent animal... It was originally mounted full deer and displayed in a small store front in Berlin Ohio first time I seen it before it was confiscated… Was killed in the late seventies if I remember correctly, and ranked like either 5 or 6 in B&C at the time... It hangs or used to hang with a shoulder mount in the division office near Akron is where I got to touch it... I have a photo of the magazine article you spoke of somewhere, I try to find it...

Here ya go...

1975 Eli Hochstetler Holmes County 261-6_8...

How a buck of that caliber lived that long to grow that big in amish county is amazing... Was ranked number 7 in B&C at the time...

I know Justin and can confirm he shot the buck the first weekend in October in that county on several hundred acre farm owned by his family. He spends thousands of dollars a year on food plots, protein pellets and corn. Buck fed from a protein pellet trough nearly every day for 5 years. It is totally unrealistic for 99% of hunters to achieve the results he did or justify the enormous expense! And trust me Ohio hunting is not what it used to be due to the internet horn porn.

ZBone read my post I didn’t say anything about the first deer. The deer bigswivie posted isn’t from this year. That photo was circling a long time ago.

Exactly “ baiting on private land” let’s see you guys shoot these hogs on state property.

Why was the Eli Hoffstetter buck confiscated? What's the story behind it?

From: Zbone
13-Nov-19
Don't know how true so hold me to this Oldreb, but the story I got was - they (Hochstetle and friends) knew about the buck and has been said, he shot it before legal shooting hours with the aid of truck lights shinning it... I do remember (I think) it was killed the first morning of gun season...

He later had a falling out with his buddies and they turned him in and the DOW confiscated it.... I think it's still listed in the B&C records books as the DOW the owner...

If anybody has a recent B&C book, I'd luv to know where it stands now...

Zbone, yep that's him. That is my all time favorite buck right there. There is a replica of it in the Hamburg PA Cabela's that I saw. Thanks for posting that, it almost makes me tremble just looking at the pic. Just an amazing deer, and it was before feeding nutrients and food plots became popular. First one does have some of the same characteristics. Oldreb, Eli supposedly shot it a before legal hours on opening day, from reading the article in NA WT. If I can find the magazine, I'll try to post the article.

From: Zbone
14-Nov-19
Hmmm,,,, wonder how replicas of it came to be... Can't see (although don't know) if the DOW would commit to that, and am sure they confiscated way before replicas were being made...

Maybe somebody in the know could help us out with that...

But yeah, I agree, it's a magnificent rack... I was at the DOW office for a nuisance trapping thing, and immediately recognized it hanging on the wall... I didn't say anything to anybody about it but walked up to it when nobody was looking and rubbed the rack a little...8^)

kakiat kid - Get any more info on the amish buck?

Happen to see the newspaper author of buck at top on Saturday at a family event... He didn't have anymore information than what he printed... Basically they believe it was 5-1/2 years old by the sheds and was shot on the family farm...

I just noticed that the entry or exit wound is pretty far back, and that it appears they tried to cover it up with leaves... ?? Anyone see that?
