My Big 6 Point

I shot this big 6 point on public land this weekend and thought i would share. I hit him in the liver and spent 5hrs grid searching a crp field with grass over my head until i finally found him. He went 350 yards as the crow flies. He's the first buck older than 2.5 that i've ever shot so i'm still in disbelief.

Holy!!! Nice job on the recovery. Question did he go that far after the hit or did you bump him?
From: Buckskin22

I let him lay over night and took up the trail in the morning so I didn't bump him. He saw me in the stand and bounded to 20 yards before I shot him so that's probably why he went so far. Although he did start walking and stood in a couple spots after 75 yards so he wasn't that badly spooked

My biggest was a 2X4 also, AND the most challenging recovery I’ve ever had... but beyond that, there’s not much of a resemblance.

SixLomas, i brought it with me for the first hour of tracking but brought it back to the car when i lost blood and went back to regroup. I Didnt take it with for the grid search because it was too much of a burden in the tall grass. Here's a picture of a buck i got earlier this year and the bow i used on this deer as well

Love the giant 6 points - something special about them. Coolest thing would to make book with a 6... that might be close? Congratulations
From: wildwilderness
12-Nov-19
No way it will be close as a 2x4 Stud, too many deductions. No such thing as a “gross book score” always has to net 125”+

That is a fantastic deer and huge congrats! Case in point why I prefer western count over eastern though. I was expecting a big 3x3. :)
No matter the count that is a great one and good job on the recovery!

He would be a 7 point if not for the broken brow tine. I've never measured a deer before but i don't think he would make p&y due to the asymmetry.

My hunting buddy took a large 6 pt 2 yrs ago. Made P &Y at 125", few deductions. Interestingly in my state where APR is applied ( 4 points on one side) it would have been an illegal buck, if that was the case where he shot it. That approach is BS, overall mass and age should be the factor.
