Full body Doe mount?

Gonna head out this weekend, hopefully get a BIG doe. If it field dresses over 150 I think I’ll do a full body mount. Thoughts?

Why? If it was a match for an existing full bodied buck, maybe a unique piebald or maybe for educational purposes, I could see. But just to have a doe full body mounted??

Interesting.....maybe the mount could have a forefoot raised ready for an alert stomp...that's the way I remember does!! If you could add a concealed sound system with a few loud snorts even better!

If you do, I’d suggest adding a little space near its nipples so you can place a bag of milk in there for coffee when your buddy stops by. He could milk it.

Lifesize mounts usually take a habitat or a base at the very least. These mounts take up a lot of floor space unless you have a place to put it off the ground. Hope you have a plan.

^X2 on the floor space concern....I have a large bear in a full body, horizontal mount and it does take up some floor space. I have the base on rollers so I can move it around easier. If it was standing it might not take up much floor space.

Yes I will have to do some re-arranging with the wife's things...wish me luck. She is already upset about the shoulder mount I did with my cow elk. Might have to get creative.

Why not? We all bitch about how horn porn is going to end hunting. Appreciate each and EVERY animal you kill. How many of us have had a doe or lead cow elk ruin a hunt? A mature doe is harder to kill than a buck in rut. Do it!

Great idea. Would be a great way to capture part of the hunt.
A doe hunt can be just as satisfying as killing a nice buck who has his dial set on stupid during the rut.

One year, one of the guys in our camp shot a doe that dressed about #165, IIRC.
Don’t think that was the same year that another guy got a buck that went about #235. Dressed.
They grow ‘em big up Nort’ deer, WV!!

I saw huge one in Chisago Co. last weekend.Out of 4 deer the hunters were field dressing it was bigger than the bucks, I have harvested several near that weight further North in Pine co. Full body mount?? No I'll pass

How cool would it be to have a full body mount of a doe with a fawn nursing underneath?! Or maybe a buck mounting her?! I bet there are some guys on here who shoot a lot of bucks who would donate a body cape and antlers just for the novelty of it. I only shoot muleys anymore (taste way better) but I'd donate a muley buck body cape if you pay for the caping and shipping. How awesome would that be, a full mount of a muley mounting a whitetail! People might pay to come take a look at it.

yet to acquire the obsession with mounts, I have boiled and hung every buck skull on the garage wall, have 6 or so in the basement, 3 on plaques on the wall and 2 or 3 laying around, but the are all european and will likely be hung in the shop/garage when I have expired. I don't think anyone will keep a mount of mine in the house. I see mounts as a good thing only to those who killed it, and of little worth after that. If I had that amount of money burning a hole in my pocket, I would find a different place to distribute my wealth.

p.s. I would entertain the idea of learning a new skill so if the full body mount was so that I could learn taxidermy, I think I would be up for that. I love the challenge of learning new things, I would be thrilled to do it for the experience. Not sure what I would do with the mount once I was done? but would enjoy the process.

Just curious, you do your own taxidermy? Go for it! One of the guys at "deer camp" shot a 140 dressed last week in east central Minnesota. Years ago I saw a big doe with a normal sized to compare with, they both had fawns. I let the smaller one go by and the big one took a different trail off the main trail and I ate tag soup that year!

I do about 6-8 full doe mounts, all in small pieces in my three chest type freezers every year. Cost me only the electric to run them.

JTV y'alls Midwestern deer are HUGE!
Around here (Valley-and Ridge of Southwestern VA) a truly nice mature buck is 180# live weight. A big mature doe may hit 130# live weight.
In the Western Piedmont of Virginia in dairy and beef farming country you'll see a doe shading 150# LW but I've never actually weighed one that made that. A truly huge bodied buck in those areas may go a bit over 200# LW
I hear a lot about 150# does and 250# bucks but have never seen one on the scale.

A wise old doe is very hard to take with a bow thats for darn sure..Ive taken many Northern Michigan bucks..For several years I tried to harvest an old Piebald Doe..She would never come into a baited location, nor allow her fawns to during daylight hours..She skirted every tree I tried to cut her off from....Though each and every day she would walk into my mothers yard for hand outs. I never tried nor attempted to harvest her until she reached 11 years old, this picture is when she was eleven She began limping due to her hooves growing so long they began over lapping each other. She was found dead at age 14 ..She had fawns until her last year..She bore twins nine years in a row...Most times twins...I would have had a full body mount on her...A mature doe is a exceptional trophy.

Ive harvested many whitetail in fifteen different states..Spot and stalk. Glassing and stalking..Still hunting..Climbing stands on pinch points..Trail watching,,as well as over bait..Baiting is my least favorite, only because Im to lazy to carry bait through two miles of woods to reach my hunting area. I guess H.H. I really don't understand your reply.. I never snub anyone who hunts in their state under the regulations provided. To each their own as long as it is a legal harvesting method ...

Baiting is not hunting. Hurts the entire bow hunting pastime. What would P & Y say about taking a big California grizz over a doughnut barrel with a dead horse mixed in?
Im sure your a great stalker and can creep with the best snipers.
All B& C and P & Y should be mandatory none bait trophies period, if they are not already. The longer they wait with a policy letter the more we will pay in our pastime of hunting in America.

Didn't read any other than the OP post. My thoughts...first of all you need the room for a full body. Second, it has to be, IMO, something really special for a full body. A 150# doe is not something "really special". Now...if it were an albino, leucistic or "colorful" piebald that may be worth consideration. Maybe that's just me....but whatever floats your boat and makes you happy.
