Day 19 public lLand
Last day of my annual journey. This is a big woods hunt where you see limited numbers but you have a good opportunity to see a big buck on occasion. Typically I don’t kill but have killed a couple of dandies over the l last ten years I passed a 140 on day one and have on seen one good buck since. I
It normally talked me about an hour to get to this stand but this morning it took a little longer because I had to carry a stand the last four hundred yards.
So far today I saw three doe at daylight.
Good luck! How's the weather?
39 degrees with a 10mph wind.
I treat the walk in as a workout!
Just saw a big shooter 100 yards out. He paid o attention to my grunt call.
Throw that grunt call away and snort wheeze at them. Since I threw mine away years ago I have had way more bucks turn and come in snort wheezing with my mouth.
Scrappy, he didn’t like the snort wheeze either. That’s my last resort call. I have had several run from it.
You put him on edge with the grunt then snort wheeze. That's a no go for me. My way of thinking is bucks are like us. If your walking through your own house and someone yells at you from the bedroom telling you to get out of your own house. That is going to cause a confrontation almost every time. You won't stop to think about it you just react. Now if you throw out some grunts the buck will stop and think about it. I know my way of thinking is different than most though.
My experience comes from iowa deer. I know that herd dynamics has a lot to do with how bucks react.
Ok now get back to hunting and keep posted.
I’ve called them in both ways but normally grunt first.
I added the workout pics for all the guys that think all whitetail hunting is on 4 wheelers, box blinds, food plots!
Go get em Mike!!! Rooting for ya!
Midwest, I have been elk hunting and most days are easier than walking a mile in the dark uphill and setting for ten plus hours on stand in 25 to 45 degrees.
About the time your elk hunt ends you start getting used to the altitude.
Heart rate would be higher if I was not on meds to keep it down.
Just kidding ya Rocky....best of luck.
Are you hunting in your home state?
Midwest, I didn’t take it personally but it will kick your arse especially when you pack in a heater body suit.
Ohio, Georgia doesn’t have the size to justify this punishment.
Da, da, all day sit is trying my patience with this wind. Nothing since around 8:30.
You got this Rocky, We are all rooting for you. I'm working, you are enjoying the woods You win all day long.
Dakota, absolutely and thanks!
Can't imagine doing that many all day sits. Hats off to you...dang.
What are you doing for footwear with the long hike in then sitting all day?
Midwest, I hiked in LaCrosse ABs and changed socks. I know the trails so walking in them works.
1.3 miles in to your stand is certainly a good workout. Changing socks is smart. Good luck!
