Whose ever seen one? When and where? Not looking to hunt them, just had an interesting conversation with a friend and wanted to get a little data from fellow bowhunters. We know about Kermode bear, looking for examples outside that area of BC.

I call them polar bears ;)
I’ve never seen either of them.

Not sure what you are asking. Is there a known population of white black bears? Seems contradictory. Are they albinos?

There are white phase bears called Kermode bears that are white but not albino. Also there is a color phase called glacier bears that are a kind of bluish. I think both are found in British Columbia?

My friend had a bear outfitting business in NE Alberta on the Athabasca river. He got a trail camera photo of a white bear, not albino. While I was up there we got a blue bear in camp. Don’t have photos available but it was a beautiful animal.

A friend saw one going through the inside passage north of Ketchikan. Tried but couldn’t get a shot at it.

Had a student in my class shoot one years ago, but it was sketchy on details, the bear had been seen frequently and he was accused of trespass I think. Anyways last I heard he had taken the fish and game officer on several long hikes back to the "kill sight" and his memory was not so good and they could never verify where it was killed. The hide mysteriously went missing and to the best of my knowledge never showed up at a taxidermist. I did see the photos but that was it.

Yes, asking about a white color phase of black bears like the one Ace posted. Not albinos.

One in a local sporting goods store here in Colorado shot by a friend of mine. He used to be on bowsite but I’m not sure he comes around anymore.

In British Columbia there is a population of about 500 white bears known as kermode bears. Also known as spirit bears.

Agree with the previous posts regarding the small population of Kenmode bears in BC. This is the closest we’ve killed in camp to white.
