YARD HOPPER hunt 5

OK, Here we go again. Tuesday January 7. Goose hunt 5.
The winds of yesterday have died some. Gusts up to 97 mph near Boulder and here, up to 44 mph. I have high hope to this days hunt. Well, I better!
Chase the wonder dog had some excitement last night. NO not that kind! It seems that a large mule deer buck was at the bird feeder last night around 11 PM when Tricia let him out. When Chase got to the end of the deck he spied the buck only 15 ft away at the feeder. The buck took on a defensive posture, lowered his head and rack and charged Chase. Lucky the deck prevented the buck from getting there, and he veered off and headed away. Chase, the wonder dog, defender of the house and ace goose retriever. :)

Good luck today. The geese probably put a hit out on ol' Chase hoping to keep you two out of the blind!
I predict Chase will get to tastes some feathers today. Good luck!
Well another morning in the goose field. Not much happening as I only saw 3 geese before 9am. and did not hear others. Chase was in the truck and I brought him back to the blind for a stretch and was thinking about rapping up the morning hunt. . Then it happened as we were standing out side of the blind.

Not sure why the geese did not see us but we both dove into the blind. Wings locked, they came on in
and landed 35 yards away. I am scrambling for the camera, range finder, and bow. Chase knows something is up and starts the nervous whining. He can see the geese through the unzipped door. I ready an arrow, range find at 36 yards. Arrow on its way. MISS! Another arrow at 40 yards is on its way, MISS! but the geese do not fly but move farther away. I range find one at 43, set the single pin, arrow on it way, HIT! Chase is on his way to retrieve as the goose flutters away and dies with the arrow in it.
Back to the blind and then I see the arrow in the goose. Not good but no injury. Chase just earned a few treats.
A well earned goose for sure. A slow start of the season so much appreciated. This might be number 75.
Way to go Paul and Chase! Love it!
Great job Chase. you to Paul Always enjoy your adventures
For nostalgia sake, in the same location, 9 years ago with my first goose. Fun stuff.

When I grow up, I wanna be like Paul!!

Great job, Paul and Chase!
Way to go boys! I sure wish we had some yard hoppers to chase. I have a feeling my Buck would enjoy it every bit as much as Chase does! Congrats on the first of the season Paul!
That so awesome...way to keep after them......glad it came together. So impressive. Chase looks better every year.
Awesome!! Way to git 'er done!
Way to go Paul! mmmmm goose, ha
Sweet success ! Good job men !
Outstanding, 2 partners in goose mania. Love it!
Way to hang in there Paul. What's the red thing on Chase's front ankle in the pic?
Great work, Paul and Chase!!
Good going! Isn’t it funny how they always seem to show up when you are least expecting them!
Brotsky—I’ve thought the same thing many times, I’ve been diligently watching for a place. Our geese around here aren’t real patentable, except of course at the park across the street, and the golf course. But I’m guessing neither of those would go over very well ;)

Chuck, the "red thing" on Chase's left paw is a dog boot with red tape attach to prevent it from coming off. THe reason is, he split a nail on his outside pad. Took him to the vet, had the nail cut back and the top cut off. Some infection. They found a few weed seeds back in the split nail so after a few days he is ok but the boot keeps the wound clean and the remaining nail does not get compromised. Thanks for the question. Paul
Ken, Chase will be 11 on Feb 14, Valentines day. Yea, he still enjoys "chasing" things and seems to be strong and healthy. Paul
Paul, Good work, persistence paid off for you. Congrats.......Bob
You stayed with it and it paid off. Congratulations.
Nice job Paul and Chase!! Thank you for taking us along!!!
Really enjoy this. Thanks Paul
Way to go Chase and Paul! Thanks for keeping us in the action!
Good for ya Paul
Ya ever get those Snow Geese on the spring hunts?
Good luck, Robb
Hardly even see any Snow Geese along the mountain range. Farther east. mid prairie, and near the neb, kans line.
I knew you and Chase were going to get it done. Good shooting.
And there ya go! The first one is always the hardest. They'll be rollin' now!
