These are elk that were winter kills in 92-93. Why they put them in the ground is any body’s guess. It is one way to clean skulls but I don’t know if that’s the reason.

Wow! Winter must have been early and brutal for all those big bulls to get caught still sporting. Any idea where DL?

None of them are duplicates, but you'd better have some darn good surveillance on those or they would be 'poached' in a big way. Right next to a road??? IDK who would do something that idiotic, plant them in the front yard. Inviting trouble. I wouldn't be overly surprised if they were poached to begin with. Sorry so negative, but I've seen that a lot, esp. up around Mt. St. Helens. Found several poached bulls with racks cut off. Also got questioned by Federal cops about that very thing when shed hunting up there. I did find 14 mature dead bulls, frozen to death up north of Gardiner once. Horns already cut off, someone made a good haul. Those were legit. winter kills.

We didnt have thieves back in 92-93 era, thieves came around 2003 , along with the wolves in Idaho.
