Any reports from Mexico on Coues deer hunts? That topic has been dead quiet on here all winter....but I know some of you have been down there!

Rifle hunt started January 18th. Rut was going strong and our camp was 7/7 3.5 days into a 5 day hunt. It was incredible. I would definitely go back. Bowhunting on our ranch would’ve been impossible. Too much water around and there were rains right before the hunt and on the 4th day of the hunt. One B&C buck was taken and a lot of 95”+ bucks.

Was down there with Ward’s Outfitters the week of January 6-10. Waterhole hunting was kind of slow as they had a pretty wet December, especially around Christmas. I did manage to shoot a mid 80’s buck the second afternoon. Two other P & Y guys were also there and one shot a great buck in the low 100’s, and the other in the low 80’s. My wife didn’t fare as well. She passed on two small bucks during the week. Then the last day near the end of shooting time, Steven Ward and her tried to spot & stalk a 110” buck, but he was with a doe and couldn’t make things happen.

I have heard Mexico has been really wet this year so water hunting is marginal at best...spot and stalk for Coues is fun but very difficult with archery equipment (JMHO). That may explain the lack of reports....

Zack spotted this Whiteside about 30 seconds after arriving in camp, he said it was a booner. My 29 yard pin was spot on. Funny, they run off like a deer and then get all wobbly, then tip right over.

I’m an excellent judge of trophy quality on rabbits

Nick, that is great I saw many of those last month in Arizona, had 3 go by one of my stands one morning. Never did try to shoot one as I did not want to possibly mess up my Deer hunt. Have shot some of them years ago when I use to hunt Javalina and Deer every year.

What did those rabbits score for P&Y?

05-Feb-20
i dont know about Mexico but in Arizona them big rabbits were mighty tasty.. Better than the tag soup i ate about a week later.

The Coues deer hunting was tougher than most years. But with that said we adapted and overcame the unusually wet winter. We went into pursuit mode and managed to arrow some great bucks. We also had some great action rattling and managed to rattle in 22 bucks in two days, it was absolutely insane.

Steve, how many can a guy shoot down there?

19-Feb-20
Wkochevar, as many as one wants to pay for. Chuck the guy with 5 bucks typically kills 5 a year. This year he killed 3 trophy and 2 management. We have a quota on our ranches once that's reached we stop for the season.
