Someone sent an arrow with a broadhead into my moms house this week. Wish I was close enough to track down the owner and return it. Not cool. This is in the Grand Chute area of the Fox Valley (WI). If it’s yours, shoot me a PM.

Used to mow lawns in my youth. One was for a local doctor down the street. He had a beautiful lawn with several apple trees between the street & his house. Over the years I found several arrows stuck in his siding while trimming the rose bushes against his house. Must have been the local midnight poachers
I used to live in a urban area next to a lake. Folks would sometimes cut though the yard to get to the lake. Since were not too afar from woods you would see folks with bigger yards, woods lots shooting arrows at block targets, 3-Ds, etc. I wasn't that lucky.
My wife bought me a double bull blind for anniversary one year as I was taking up turkey hunting. Set-I up in the yard went inside with the bow to see if I could draw it OK. No arrows or shooting as there was a Day care next door.
So I come back from the range one day and my neighbor sees me unloading my equipment asks me to come over. You shoot bow right?? Yes I do, what's up? Come over here and look at this. We both were amazed at a an arrow shaft protruding out of her house wall. By the hole looks like a broad head too. We called the police. A short while later this teenage kid walks up to the house and pulls the arrow out, walks back a few houses.. followed by the officer. Seems he was staying at the grandparents and decided to do some backyard practice. No backstop no target. Was charged with reckless discharge, grandpa was clueless on how powerful the new bows were.
And by the way the little kids were outside playing at the time.... Geeze that was close.
Its mine.... man i remember when compound's first came out,,, i cant tell you you how many arrows were lauched across Sharpsburg,at my uncles shooting yard..we just laughed every time someone premature released... never thought about actually hitting someone....just roof leaks...
My wife shanked one off the target and back stop last winter luckily my dads stock car caught it before it went through the fence and neighbors porch
Had permission in a tight suburban spot here in NJ. Put my buddy in a stand and pushed a great buck right past him one fine fall morning. He missed the buck but center-punched the land owner’s shed. Just as the guy was walking out the door that morning. Took my best negotiation skills to keep that spot. Still ride my buddy, years later, about the perfect shed-shot!

I had to pull one out of the neighbor's lawn once, luckily he was a drunk and likely passed out when it stuck there. Waited til dark and hopped the fence, my wife gave me one big eye roll...

I have proven more than once that I can hit the broad side of a barn.
A while back an acquaintance "sky drew" with an unfamiliar release and accidentally lobbed an arrow over a city block. It hit a cop in the ankle, which resulted in several nights in jail and over six figures in legal fees. Doh!
Another acquaintance accidentally stuck an arrow in the side of a garage several houses down. He used to do night ops in the Vietnam War, so he waited until midnight, put on dark face paint and black sweats, and crept over to the "crime scene." After distracting a vicious guard dog with a hunk of meat, he retrieved the errant shaft.

We have inside 3D shoots in the winter here, usually in indoor horse arenas and linesmen give one warning to “sky drawers”, then out you go. Those big lights are too expensive!
30 some years ago a next door neighbor found an arrow in his yard in the grass he came to my house he had been drinking I apologised assured him it wouldn't happen again & the more he talked the more irate he got to the point that he was finally escorted away by the police. I did however never have another confrontation with him
Shooting a bow is illegal within many city limits. Know your local ordinances, fellas.

Was gearing up for my Cougar hunt and practicing my shooting. Had a block target on a pulley tied up in a tree. No way I'd ever miss the target, or so I thought. I live in a relatively rural spot, and when I accidentally bumped my release and sent a broadhead tipped, lighted nock arrow skyward, roughly toward my nearest neighbor's property, my sphincter did tighten a bit, but I figured there was no way it would make it that far. Was I ever wrong. That damn arrow could not have wound up in a worse spot, unless it had actually hit some one. I searched and searched and finally spotted it sticking in the ground inside the neighbors fence between the house, the driveway and the garage. It was around 7:30 am on a Sunday and it looked like everyone was still sleeping. There was a small ditch running through the yard, which was completely fenced to keep the dogs in. A small run off pipe drains the area about 100 yards below where the arrow landed. I put on my ghillie suit and mask, crawled through the pipe and up the ditch, slithered 10 yards across the lawn to the arrow, grabbed it and retreated. As far as I know, I got away with the entire episode. I'm the only bowhunter in the neighborhood and there is absolutely no way that arrow would have gone unnoticed, so I did the only thing that I thought had a chance of working out well for me. I am such an idiot some time. But thankfully, a very lucky idiot, so far.
Let's just say there's a reason I moved out of the city. Thankfully my one "situation" wasn't a bad one. One day when I become the first Canadian President of the United States they're gonna comb this site for my sins so I'll leave it right there.

Ahhh.... Great Big Bag o’ NO on that one. I did have an arrow skip UNDER a Block target at an impossibly steep angle to clear a low, stone wall that was supposed to be my back-stop. It never occurred to me that an arrow could slither through a gap where there was no line-of-sight passage, but it sure as hell did.
Friend of mine had a sight pin slip on him. Skipped one off the top of his Block and centered the mullion on the window of the neighbor’s home office a couple doors down. The neighbor was sitting at his desk with his back to the window at the time. Somehow he failed to notice the arrow when he looked out the window to see WTH had hit it.
Last place we were in I had a 10X12 shed for a backstop, so I could shoot 50’ in the yard... but the place we bought, there’s just No Heffing Way. Even with Flu-Flus and rubber blunts, it’s just so clearly a bad idea that there’s no way that you could dispute a reckless discharge rap.
But I think blunted Flu-Flus probably ought to be a much more popular option among back-yard shooters. Too bad they get so torn up on cables...
My worst from the late '70's: I skipped one off of my hay bale back stop and it went through the bottom of my neighbors canoe he had stored up against his garage.
My worst was using the wrong pin and shotting about half an inch under a doe, she walked off like nothing had even happened.
If you are going to shoot in the city or suburbs, put the target up against your house as a backstop. If you aren't comfortable shooting at your house, you probably shouldn't be shooting there.
I learned the shooting at home is a no-no lesson the hard way years ago. Installed a new sight and skipped on off the top of my target at ~7 yards, through the stucco wall of garage, and far enough down the street (100+ yards) that I never found that arrow.

Once knew a guy that had no safe areas to shoot in his yard. He tried with many mishaps. He cut holes in two interior walls so he could shoot from his kitchen, through the dining room, into his living room. He's divorced now....true story.
My brother used to shoot in the yard when I was a teenager. He was in his 20s. One errant arrow went through Dads boat leaning against the garage. I helped hi fix that one with a rivot before Dad got home.
On another occasion he was shooting in the yard and the judo tipped arrow skipped and took a turn, bam right into the side of his decked out 1973 Challenger. After he had the expensive paint job.
Years earlier our older sister (the champion archer) had an errant arrow take a bounce and go through the garage window. What was stacked up against that window?? About a dozen storm windows for the house... Um yeah not supposed to be shooting in the yard but they still did.
and lastly same brother was playing cowboys and indians with a cousin, pulling back the bow pointed arrow at the kid's feet. "Dance, Dance, Dance" he said jokingly. Well a quick slip of the fingers and.. drilled his cousins heel with the arrow.
A buddy of mine and I were lucky enough to be invited to hunt black buck antelope on a ranch in Texas. While checking our bows my buddy glanced an arrow off the side of a block target and right into the ranchers pickup tire. Needless to say, that didn't help our prospects of getting invited back!

I have a 3 1/2’ X 5 1/2’ compressed cardboard backstop in my basement that I’ve shot for years. I get about 18 yds distance down there.
Had a buddy come over to shoot a few (try out this archery thing). He put the 3rd shot right through the window above the target backstop.(which is right at ground level).
Usually my boat is parked there but is was docked at the time so the next thing in line was the neighbors barn 60 yds away or so.
Never did find that arrow or hear anything about it. (I don’t think he’s picked up a bow since then)...and now it’s a glass block window!!!
Back when I drove a dump truck, a friend and co-worker were checking our bows at the boss's place where we parked the trucks on the weekend. We also got to hunt their land along with one of the boss's sons. We had a target set up near the trucks when "Tim" tarded out and sent an arrow right into the lower back portion of the passenger's door of the R model Mack he drove. That exact place is where the windshield wiper reservoir is located and it started bleeding blue as we walked up to get the arrow out. We laughed our butts off and even the boss got a laugh out of it. I never did find out who paid to get it fixed. I think it was a Rocky Mountain Supreme that didn't quite make it through the door skin.
Funny group here! Had a freind release go off during the draw. Arrow center punched the cable for tv 20’ in the air. Wasn’t long before cable guys truck was driving around the block. He grabbed them and pointed up at the arrow. They all laughed and wanted to keep the arrow. He said no problem but switched it out with an old cheap arrow. What are the chances?
I must confess I think it is mine. It was about '92 and I had a tag for NM 16D. Had a big bull elk and all his cows headed my direction. Ranged a bush that they were going to pass in front of at 30 yds. (Split image range finder) Kept telling myself green sight, green sight. Must of picked the wrong green sight, as that arrow passed a foot over the back and went out of sight still on an upward trajectory.
Guess it finally came down.

Somebody bought the field across from my target, and long story short, placed a huge metal building right in front of my yard out of spite (against the whole neighborhood, who protested his plan to try to rezone our quiet little neighborhood into a commercial retail business).
I decided "screw it" and kept shooting, but after a few years several small holes appeared in the building, which I caulked. One day he noticed, sent the sheriff to talk to my wife while I was gone, and she admitted it was me. His wife wanted to press felony criminal mischief charges.
I went over and talked with him, owned it, told him I was sorry and it wouldn't happen again. Turns out his adult son used to bowhunt, so he overruled his wife (who then wanted me to replace the entire side of the 90' building), and we've gotten along ever since.
Had a coworker once that skipped an arrow into the side of his neighbor's above ground pool.
Almost forgot this one. Before I ever hunted, let alone bowhunting my brother and I had bows as kids. When we were probably 8 or 9, maybe 10 we got recurve bows we were told were for teenagers. We thought we were cool. We used to launch arrows over the house. My goodness looking back that was stupid!
Of course we also used to shoot straight up in the air. One day my brother does this and we watch the arrow not going straight up. It angles towards a busier mian road 1 house away. As we follow the arrow with our eyes we watch it coming down in perfect time with a car driving down the road. WHACK. It strikes the car dead center on the roof. The drivers immediately sees us, hits the brakes and tears into our driveway with the arrow still sticking out the roof of his car!
Kind of hard to deny he did it when my brother is still holding his bow!
The image of the car pulling in our driveway with the arrow planted dead center in the roof will be with me forever! As was the fear of my dad when he found out!

What is the best procedure to handle the recovery of an arrow that went over a fence, over a city street, and apparently buried itself in a lawn across the street ? Asking for a friend.
I shot an arrow just under my deer 3D target kill zone that sat in front of my shed. I grumbled as I walked up to pull it from the shed, because it usually pulls my brass insert and field tip out when pulling it out of the plyboard. To my surprise it didn't. oh well, just a small hole in the shed, no big deal... so I thought. Until I went to change my oil the next time in my truck. As I was letting it drain into the catch pan, I walked back in the house. When I returned, there was oil running down my driveway! I was like, WTF?! Turns out that arrow had penertrated my catch pan about a 1/3 of the way up. Needless to say, it was a messy clean up!
Oh... I've also destroyed an iphone while videoing my shooting. Yep, I'm really good. :)
When I very first took up archery, I used a hay bale and figured the hill behind it was enough of a backstop. I didn't realize that the soft angle wouldn't stop an arrow.
Took a bad shot high that just caught the top of the hay bale and it just took a bounce off of my "backstop" and sailed right into my neighbor's yard who'd just moved in the day prior that I had yet to meet. We each have 1 acre and his property is about 20 feet in elevation above mine.
I heard it hit his barn. What I didn't know is that it'd gone under his jeep and missed him by about 15 feet.
I walked up to the property line just as he pulled the arrow from the barn. I was cringing and getting ready for it, telling myself, "calm, humble, your fault, your fault, your fault."
He walked up to me with a smile on his face, handed me the arrow, and said, "hi, my name is Matt. I'm your new neighbor."
Rick, I too busted an iphone trying to get it to close to the bullseye. Funny thing is when you're shooting instinctive and keep saying, "Don't hit the cell phone.", when you are drawing your long bow, while looking at the cell phone; You tend to hit the cell phone.

My dad told me a story about a friend of his who shot one “straight up” and it came down through the roof of his father’s new Buick...
Myself, I had that sinking feeling one time... I was in the back yard practicing my moving targets; kick the tennis ball, draw & shoot while it was still bouncing away from me. One time the ball had gone a little farther than usual - more than 15 yards, but less than 20.
Anyway, I was shooting Judos, and when I hit the ball, I topped it Just Right; the shaft went from intersecting with the ground to arcing Skyward - or what certainly felt like it at the time...
It only went about another 40-50 yards, but it sure did get my attention...
Living room window for me. 15 yards shot indoor while distracted. Bad juju. Windows still patched with duct tape 3 years later. Big window pane, 48" by 60". Still married.
We had an old junior compound laying around when I was in high school. My buddy Jesse, the guy who was ALWAYS pushing the limit, wanted to shoot it so we went out in my back yard to shoot a hay bale. He drew it back, then leaned back and shot it straight up in the air. I remember watching the arrow go to a speck and then disappear out of sight, it was so cool, then realizing that it would come back down and running like hell to stand under the eave of the house. It seemed like it was up there for an eternity, then WHAM! it stuck in the roof of my neighbors old tractor shed 50 yards away, the neighbor with the bad temper. I had to shimmy up a tree and then hop over to the roof, that building was so old I thought the whole thing was going to collapse as I crawled back off. I punched Jesse in the nuts when I got back on my side of the fence...

My buddy center punched the windshield of his Dad's 1 week old 1975 Chevy Blazer.
Not an accident but not real bright either... The Marlboro Man on The Seaside Heights New Jersey Boardwalk ... Same place The Jersey Shore TV shows made...Just 25 years before.

I'm so glad I don't live in a city :) I can shoot 200 yards and never step foot out of my mowed yard. If I want I could shoot 680 yards from my front yard to a neighboring hill with a good backstop :)
However, I have a decent story. . . . Maybe 6 or 7 years ago, I was keeping my .300 RUM at my parents in the safe, because I didn't have a gun safe at the time. They'd been having problems with a ground hog under their shed. I was over for dinner, and the ground hog popped his head out. I watched him for 10 minutes, and he wouldn't move. I grabbed the .300 RUM, the only gun there at the time. But I couldn't shoot at him on the corner because there's a lean-to cattle shelter behind his corner. Couldnt' get the angle.
But, I knew that I shot straight down the side of the shed, I could shoot the groundhog and have the angle to miss the cattle lean-to. . . .
So I snuck out the front door of the house. Circled around to the shed, slowly walked down the shed side, left-handed the rifle, and slowly peeked around and splattered the ground hog from 30 feet
Problem was, the muzzle was 5 or 6 inches from a single pane shed window. A .300 RUM muzzle blast will shatter a single pane window, I discovered at that moment.
I've had numerous occasions over the years to approach my dad and admit to some error in judgment that broke something. . . . But not many that occurred when I was over 30 years old :) I felt pretty sheepish . . .
Probably was shot from a newbie compound shooter. The typical buy-the-bow-on-Friday-and-take-it-hunting-the-next-day mentality. It's a compound,it doesn't take any effort to shoot one. So easy even a blue caveman can do it.

Back in the 70s kids used to shoot the Big White Bear Statute at the local Chevy dealership. I think it almost became a weekly deal. That dealership has changed hands quite a few times since then. Haven't seen arrows in it since high school.
