Whats the stated goal by doing this, Just reducing herd numbers?

I see a bunch big velvet bucks never seeing hard horn? This will not help reduce CWD numbers if infected doe fawn during this open season. it may if fact really hurt hunting for mature bucks in fall. I'm just spit balling here without knowing the thinking of the biologists here.

Here in CO they addressed CWD by reducing deer to low populations in areas many years ago. The end result was...low populations in those areas. CWD rate hasn't really changed.

Whitetails bounced back but muleys are just now gaining some population ground back.

The biggest effect was poor whitetail hunting for several years and poor muley hunting for a couple decades in the spots they targeted.

Yes, Lots of the state biologists are great smart folks who are are great deal over ruled by non elected DNR DLNR commissioners. This is a real problem. Their goals are very different from the science.
