It's a slow time hunting wise and I think most of us could us a little more distraction from Covid-19 news.

So I'll finally get around to posting some lion pictures from this winter from a trail camera behind my house. First is a picture of the camera location relative to the back corner of my house. The camera is at the back corner of mine and my neighbor's lot. The fencing in the left side of the pictures runs along the back of my neighbor's lot.

I thought if I ran a camera all winter behind my house I'd be lucky to get a lion picture or two. Then BAM! It seemed like a lion convention for about 10 days in January. Cats just hanging out doing what cats do.

That’s fantastic. Awesome pics. We’re your cameras near a kill or just on a game trail?

Nice photos. I’ve been getting an unusual amount of daytime lion activity. Obviously they are too comfortable on my property.

Don’t have the pic anymore, but my trail cam took a pic of a large mountain line in my back yard in a suburb of Minneapolis.

Great pics. Wondering how you feel about those cats being so close to where you live. Do you get a little nervous with so much activity around you?.........Bob

I wonder what they'd do to urine or even cat nip or a strong trappers scent as a lure

Palmer Lake? I live up in Sedalia, I've seen lots of lion tracks around here too the past couple winters.

I had no idea they’d have cubs that size in January... or is the date incorrect??

I’m all for live and let live, but frankly… That would creep me out. Not nearly so much now that my boys are bigger, but still… I don’t think I’d walk a dog without a shotgun in hand.

Dates on the camera are correct. Quick Google search turned this up, "Mating can occur any time of the year, however, most litters are produced from July through September."

So the cubs in my pictures were maybe born last summer?

I never would have guessed that; my brother came across a female with cubs one morning, and they were big enough that he never mentioned seeing any spots. But I suppose they could have been closer to a year & some.

I guess all those Nature shows have been misleading me for all these years!

GF, Like the Nat Geo one the other day where they were talking about the fall also being the time where tom turkeys will fight to earn the right to breed? That was a new one on me.

I'd have to kill a few!

Shiras - I’m not troubled y the stuff that I know is BS, but I have always considered myself a reasonably competent Outdoorsman/Zoologist, and honestly, it never occurred to me that Cougars would not have their birthing synchronized with their prey base... But I suppose they wouldn’t breed too effectively if they had to find each other in the depths of Winter when it would be extra difficult to move from one drainage to the next with a lot of deep snow and a real scarcity of game in between...

Maybe I’ll do a little homework while I’m given the extra free time....
