Although, I haven't seen anything officially posted on the Utah DWR site, this is circulating via Gohunt.
Sorry All,

Quite the increase if it happens. Getting more expensive to play the game!
Well, if Colorado can do it and still get more applications every year, why not?
Ok if they want to raise rates what are we getting in return? Be nice if they took 20% of those auction tags and put them back into the draws for the sportsman that bankroll thier department
Be glad they haven't adopted the MT/WY/CO model of over-the-top fees for each PP. And also glad they're still letting us use the hunting license for 2 years worth of apps. Will be more than happy to pay their new license fee for a once-in-a-lifetime sheep tag or a limited elk tag, if I could just get drawn!
I’m one of the high point holders for both elk and sheep(16). Just sucks to get kicked in the nuts again by another state
I got off that treadmill a lot time ago. Not worth it. Their headed in a bad direction.
No way is a LE deer tag worth $650 PLUS all the years of points it takes to get one.
I agree with sticksender....could have been alot worse.
I think it is a terrible idea, and Idaho looks to be doing it as well. I am against for a number of reasons, but none more than hunter recruitment.
It's definitely a trend. Less NR opportunity and prices jacked up through the moon. Due to both of those reasons, in addition to skipping CO this year, my kids and I are skipping Idaho for the first time since 2013.
Never thought I'd see "No" across the board for buying licenses or applying in Idaho on my spreadsheet!
I’m moving later this year and if I don’t draw a tag this year as a resident, I’m out on Utah all together.
I mean all they did was take a look at other states! It’ll give residents a better chance and they need it. I feel like nonresidents aught to pay out the nose so people who live there are able to hunt in their backyard every once in a while
I figured this was coming for a while and my biggest fear was a big hike to the hunting license fee - which fortunately didn't happen.
The thing is, if you're putting in for good tags in UT, then you're putting in for tags with high value because they're high quality and you're probably not drawing so high cost tags are not as big of a deal as a high cost to apply.
I've been dreading them hiking the hunting license to like $150 like it is in NV/AZ, which would have made it not as worth it to apply in UT since the best tags have such horrible odds. As it stands, it's only about $100/yr to put in for a boat load of tags.
“ It’ll give residents a better chance and they need it.”
Not so in UT. They allot a certain number of tags to NonRes, (usually 10%, then take out all the auction tags from them:(. That probably leaves 5%? ) Then the draw for Res vs NR is completely separate. They are not competing for the same tags.
What bothers me the most is the General OTC type elk tags that really didn't need to have a fee adjustment.
I've always felt it was a great way and not very Pricey for a guy and his kid or wife or brother ect to come hunt our state OTC Any Bull or Spike/cow and have a decent chance of getting a bow harvest, even if it's a Cow and fill the Fam-Fam freezer.
I don't like the idea of raising those OTC type elk tags.
______________
I also always send in my yearly Emails to the RAC committee members stating that there should be At least 2 non-ressy tags in every LE species units offerings to be drawn, 1 for the Bonus high point pool and 1 for the Random pool...…. What is that saying about Deaf Ears-------->

"I feel like nonresidents aught to pay out the nose so people who live there are able to hunt in their backyard every once in a while"
Wrong.
Would be nice if all the NR hunts had at least two tags! Taking them from the NR for all the auctions brings in a lot more money though, and no skin off the Residents so no political backlash.
" It’ll give residents a better chance and they need it." How does this give them a better chance?
45% increase for OIL tags.... thats ridiculous!
About time they raised prices, last increase was 2005.
I knew I should have cashed in on all my OIL points! Would have saved me 45% :)
With those kinds of prices, they should definitely take back damn auction tags from SFW and give NR's more chances. Utah is a $hit show for knee jerk management and blatant private company wildlife welfare.
I really don't think those general season tags are worth that much given the pressure and quality.
It reads like if the new fee's do indeed go through on July 1st, 2020 it will affect any LE Leftover tag~~ Gen Deer purchases and any of the OTC Elk tags.
They go on sale July 17th.
That sucks!
